The main purpose of this study was to determine if an association exists between changes in individual spirituality and program completion for patients in residential treatment for chemical dependency. Another objective of the research was to investigate the progression of treatment through the traditional phases of an extended treatment program with treatment completion. A final aim of the research was focused on demographic characteristics of the patients for any potentially important associations with treatment success. Patients with a diagnosis for chemical dependency were recruited during 2006 in central Mississippi and followed until treatment completion or discharge. The Daily Spiritual Experience Scale instrument was administered to these chemically dependent patients (114 men, 86 women). The patients were given the spirituality survey at admission and every 30 days until discharge. Analysis of the longitudinal descriptive study revealed that different levels of spiritual experiences were identified in patients who completed treatment compared to those patients who relapsed and were discharged prior to treatment completion (p
