Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we use spiritual power to heal and transform the world? In this new, fully revised edition, Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee shows how spiritual activism addresses our current global crisis in a visionary and revolutionary way. He reintroduces us to the ancient wisdom of the power of the land, as well as the ways we can use our light and love to create real change. Spiritual Power: How It Works explores how spiritual practice and spiritual energy have a central part to play as a catalyst in the vitally needed shift from the story of separation—that lies at the root of our present ecocide—to a new story of the Earth's multihued unity. This is practical mysticism on a global level, the simple wisdom that can reconnect us to the magic of life and awaken us to its essential oneness. “If you want to learn how to be in service to the planet, Spiritual Power is an invaluable book. Vaughan-Lee shows us how we can direct our energy and light to create change. He shares his deep and profound insights about the true definition of power in a way that creates questions and answers as we move to the next evolution of consciousness. A brilliant and much needed book!” —Sandra Ingerman, author, Soul Retrieval and Medicine for the Earth “A poetic and energetic vision of a new way to experience life—the power of the future made present today. It is a joy and relief to read a book about spirituality written from the viewpoint of unity, presence, and love. This is an important book, one that looks toward the integration of the wisdoms of the earth and sky cultivated over the past 15,000 years. Vaughan-Lee suggests that in order to liberate the love, life, and laughter that are already ours, we need to break down any artificial, conceptual, religious, or materialist barriers that prevent us from experiencing them.” —Neil Douglas-Klotz, Ph.D., author, The Genesis Meditations: A Shared Practice of Peace for Christians, Jews, and Muslims “... a visionary book and a daring one! Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee is a rare and hidden mystic of our time, a true seer who helps us to see that which our ordinary perception cannot perceive.... (a) courageous vision of the gravity of the modern predicament as well as the profound possibility for healing on a large scale.... conveys the importance of each individuals contribution to this healing, and passionately urges us to take responsibility for our own hidden knowledge and our necessary role in healing the planet ... a revolutionary book for the bravest of hearts and the most open of minds.” —Mariana Caplan, Ph.D., author, Halfway Up the Mountain: the Error of Premature Claims to Enlightenment

Book You Are What You Love

    Book Details:
  • Author : James K. A. Smith
  • Publisher : Brazos Press
  • Release : 2016-03-29
  • ISBN : 1493403664
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book You Are What You Love written by James K. A. Smith and published by Brazos Press. This book was released on 2016-03-29 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You are what you love. But you might not love what you think. In this book, award-winning author James K. A. Smith shows that who and what we worship fundamentally shape our hearts. And while we desire to shape culture, we are not often aware of how culture shapes us. We might not realize the ways our hearts are being taught to love rival gods instead of the One for whom we were made. Smith helps readers recognize the formative power of culture and the transformative possibilities of Christian practices. He explains that worship is the "imagination station" that incubates our loves and longings so that our cultural endeavors are indexed toward God and his kingdom. This is why the church and worshiping in a local community of believers should be the hub and heart of Christian formation and discipleship. Following the publication of his influential work Desiring the Kingdom, Smith received numerous requests from pastors and leaders for a more accessible version of that book's content. No mere abridgment, this new book draws on years of Smith's popular presentations on the ideas in Desiring the Kingdom to offer a fresh, bottom-up rearticulation. The author creatively uses film, literature, and music illustrations to engage readers and includes new material on marriage, family, youth ministry, and faith and work. He also suggests individual and communal practices for shaping the Christian life.

Book Understanding Spiritual Power

Download or read book Understanding Spiritual Power written by Marguerite G. Kraft and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2003-08-18 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While secularized cultures of the West have a great deal of difficulty dealing with the spiritual as a real, non-imaginary dimension of life, most of the world's peoples do not. Having worked and studied among peoples of several non-Western societies, Marguerite Kraft is convinced that coming to terms with spiritual power presents one of the greatest challenges for all those who work among non-Westerners in pastoral or mission situations. 'Understanding Spiritual Power' addresses the dynamics of the felt need for spiritual power in relation to a people's assumptions, values, and commitments, in order to provide a foundation for meaningful Christian witness in power-oriented societies. The Western Church, Kraft argues, under pressure from modern rationalism, has largely lost awareness of God's power and position vis-a-vis the spiritual realm so important in other societies. (Indeed, this loss of power could be one reason for the interest in Eastern and New Age philosophies on the part of Westerners disillusioned with the modern worldview.) Having worked among the Kamwe in Nigeria, the Thai in Asia, and the Navajo in North America, Kraft focuses on specific ways in which people in these three societies view reality and suggests how the gospel can be articulated in forms they can understand. 'Understanding Spiritual Power' offers a theological as well as a practical perspective on spiritual power. By exploring living societies, providing examples and case studies, and offering specific strategies, this book makes a powerful case for rethinking and recasting traditional missiological methods. At the same time, it helps Western Christians with ears to hear question whether they might not learn as much from those with whom they work as they seek to teach.

Book Love is a Fire

  • Author : Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee
  • Publisher : The Golden Sufi Center
  • Release : 2001-07-15
  • ISBN : 1890350036
  • Pages : 246 pages

Download or read book Love is a Fire written by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee and published by The Golden Sufi Center. This book was released on 2001-07-15 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on live talks and meetings with Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, this is an introduction to the passion and wisdom of the Sufi path of love. The call of the heart and how it draws us back to divine union is one of mankind's greatest secrets, and for the Sufi, this love is a fire that burns away all traces of separation. Vaughan-Lee teaches how to live this burning and describes stages of the path of love on the soul's journey home. Love Is a Fire includes descriptions of the "friends of God," early Sufi saints who burned with the fire of divine love, including Rumi, Ibn 'Arabi, and Rabi'a. It also introduces elements of the path and important tools that purify the wayfarer: tauba, the moment of the turning of the heart when the soul remembers its divine origin; dhikr, the central Sufi practice of remembrance of God through repetition of the name of God or a sacred phrase; meditation, a way of drowning thoughts in the fire of love; and dreamwork, a way of listening and attuning to the mystery of what is hidden within us—the stories of our deeper selves. This book is also available as an audio recording, Love is a Fire and I am Wood, published by Sounds True. “... forged in the fire of the heart, this is a book for all those who are looking for the direct way to connection with the Eternal Now. Simply to read this fine expression of a lifetime's longing is to feel aligned with the Divine Ground.” —Anne Baring, coauthor, The Divine Feminine “... a gift to all seekers, whatever path they are on.” —Andrew Harvey, author, Light Upon Light: A Celebration of Rumi

Book The School of Christ

    Book Details:
  • Author : Theodore Austin-Sparks
  • Publisher : Book Ministry
  • Release : 2011-09-18
  • ISBN : 1105056481
  • Pages : 50 pages

Download or read book The School of Christ written by Theodore Austin-Sparks and published by Book Ministry. This book was released on 2011-09-18 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ministry contained in this little book has been wrought on the anvil of deep and drastic dealings of God with the vessel. It is not only doctrinal; it is experiential. Only those who really mean business with God will take the pains demanded to read it. For such, two words of advice may be helpful. Firstly, try to remember all through that the spoken form is retained. The messages were given in conference, and the reader must try to get into the spirit and mind of listening, and not only reading. In speaking, the messenger can see by the faces before him where repetition or reemphasis or fuller elucidation is called for. This explains much that would not be the character of a precisely literary production. It has its difficulties for readers, but it also has its values. Of all the books that have issued from this ministry, I regard this one as that which goes most deeply to the roots and foundations of our life in Christ with God. T.A-S.

Book Women Men and Spiritual Power

Download or read book Women Men and Spiritual Power written by John Wayland Coakley and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Women, Men, and Spiritual Power, John Coakley explores male-authored narratives of the lives of Catherine of Siena, Hildegard of Bingen, Angela of Foligno, and six other female prophets or mystics of the late Middle Ages. His readings reveal the complex personal and literary relationships between these women and the clerics who wrote about them. Coakley's work also undermines simplistic characterizations of male control over women, offering an important contribution to medieval religious history. Coakley shows that these male-female relationships were marked by a fundamental tension between power and fascination: the priests and monks were supposed to hold authority over the women entrusted to their care, but they often switched roles, as the men became captivated with the women's spiritual gifts. In narratives of such women, the male authors reflect directly on the relationship between the women's powers and their own. Coakley argues that they viewed these relationships as gendered partnerships that brought together female mystical power and male ecclesiastical authority without placing one above the other. Women, Men, and Spiritual Power chronicles a wide-ranging experiment in the balance of formal and informal powers, in which it was assumed to be thoroughly imaginable for both sorts of authority, in their distinctly gendered terms, to coexist and build on each other. The men's writings reflect an extended moment in western Christianity when clerics had enough confidence in their authority to actually question its limits. After about 1400, however, clerics underwent a crisis of confidence, and such a questioning of institutional power was no longer considered safe. Instead of seeing women as partners, their revelatory powers began to be viewed as evidence of witchcraft.

Book The Power of Now

Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces readers to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind. He awakens readers to their role as a creator of pain and shows them how to have a pain-free identity by living fully in the present. The journey is thrilling, and along the way, the author shows how to connect to the indestructible essence of our Being, “the eternal, ever-present One Life beyond the myriad forms of life that are subject to birth and death.” Featuring a new preface by the author, this paperback shows that only after regaining awareness of Being, liberated from Mind and intensely in the Now, is there Enlightenment.

I believe God sees work as any purposeful activity requiring focus and effort. It could be housework, schoolwork, caring for children or parents, study, paid work, voluntary work, etc.” — Kara Martin In her book, Kara explores the biblical view of work, provides six spiritual disciplines to integrate faith and work, shares practical wisdom on how to make a difference in the workplace, and offers ideas to help churches better equip their congregations to live out their faith at work.
