Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "One might think that a common name such as Brown would lead to an ordinary family. That is not the case for this family. Descended from John Brown and his family, who traveled on board the Mayflower, they descended from the Kings and Queens of Europe and can be traced back to the Merovingian Kings of France and the Sea Kings of Norway. Among the most notable ancestors are John Brown of the Mayflower, Robert Dudley (a favorite of Queen Elizabeth), the Lords of Kerr in Selkirk, Scotland, the Dukes of Northumberland, and the Douglas family. The Colaw/Coler/Kohler family shares the same German ancestors as President Roosevelt and includes the Comte Jean de Graf in Picardy, France."--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: England is an old country, more deeply conditioned by its past than perhaps any of us realise. It is also a varied country, particularly in relation to its size; this fact, too, has left its imprint on our past. Antiquity and diversity are the hallmarks of English landscape and society, with evidences of the logic of history evident everywhere we look. In this collection of essays Alan Everitt looks at the interconnections between landscape and community, demonstrating how places, localities, counties and regions all shed light on English society and history as a whole. Covering topics such as regional evolution, lost towns of England, the agrarian landscape in Kent, the English urban inn, and dynasty and community since the 17th century, Everitts essays cpature the wealth of experience and local idiosyncracies that constitute Englands rich history and culture.

Download or read book Fraud and Misconduct in Research written by Nachman Ben-Yehuda and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Fraud and Misconduct in Research, Nachman Ben-Yehuda and Amalya Oliver-Lumerman introduce the main characteristics of research misconduct, portray how the characteristics are distributed, and identify the elements of the organizational context and the practice of scientific research which enable or deter misconduct. Of the nearly 750 known cases between 1880 and 2010 which the authors examine, the overwhelming majority took place in funded research projects and involved falsification and fabrication, followed by misrepresentation and plagiarism. The incidents were often reported by the perpetrator’s colleagues or collaborators. If the accusations were confirmed, the organization usually punished the offender with temporary exclusion from academic activities and institutions launched organizational reforms, including new rules, the establishment of offices to deal with misconduct, and the creation of re-training and education programs for academic staff. Ben-Yehuda and Oliver-Lumerman suggest ways in which efforts to expose and prevent misconduct can further change the work of scientists, universities, and scientific research.

Book Colonial Chesapeake Families British Origins and Descendants 2Nd Edition

This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colonial Chesapeake Families: British Origins and Descendants Harrison Dwight Cavanagh First edition awarded the Sumner A. Parker Prize by the Maryland Historical Society in 2014. The second edition of this work features all descendants of Thomas Gantt I (b. Bullwick, N. Hants; to Md. 1654; d. Calvert Co. 1692) and Ann Fielder (b. ca. 1662 Hants; d. PG Co. 1726) in the first six to ten generations. Ann Fielder is an important new addition to American colonial GATEWAY ancestors. Her parents, Capt. William Fielder (ca. 16201679) of Burrough Court Manor and Marjorie Cole (16281699) of Lyss Abbey, Hants, have proven multiple royal and magna carta ancestral lines; sixty extensive British pedigrees are documented in these volumes. The name Fielder has been inherited in multiple generations of the Beall, Belt, Berry, Bowie, Calvert, Clagett, Denwood, Dorsett, Gantt, Jones (Somerset Co.), Parker (Cal. Co.), Smallwood, Smith (Cal. Co.), and Wight (White) Maryland families. In addition, this second edition contains important new research findings on the British origins of the Hatton-Domville and Brooke-Darnall families, as well as revealing the two lost Ann Bradfords of PG Co. Colonial Chesapeake Families details the pedigrees of eighty-eight families, historical illustrations, portraits, documents, and coats-of-arms (where proven) are included. Publication of these volumes has been subsidized to make them more widely available to the thousands of descendants listed in their pages. And thanks to print on demand, Colonial Chesapeake Families will never go out of print.
