Book Road Traffic Congestion A Concise Guide

Download or read book Road Traffic Congestion A Concise Guide written by John C. Falcocchio and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-13 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on road traffic congestion in cities and suburbs describes congestion problems and shows how they can be relieved. The first part (Chapters 1 - 3) shows how congestion reflects transportation technologies and settlement patterns. The second part (Chapters 4 - 13) describes the causes, characteristics, and consequences of congestion. The third part (Chapters 14 - 23) presents various relief strategies - including supply adaptation and demand mitigation - for nonrecurring and recurring congestion. The last part (Chapter 24) gives general guidelines for congestion relief and provides a general outlook for the future. The book will be useful for a wide audience - including students, practitioners and researchers in a variety of professional endeavors: traffic engineers, transportation planners, public transport specialists, city planners, public administrators, and private enterprises that depend on transportation for their activities.

Book Evaluation of the Safety and Mobility Impacts of a Proposed Speed Harmonization System

Download or read book Evaluation of the Safety and Mobility Impacts of a Proposed Speed Harmonization System written by Jonathan Kenneth Markt and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overuse of the Interstate and National Highway Systems has led many urban freeways to suffer from recurrent congestion and high crash rates. One method of ameliorating these problems is through the use of Active Traffic Management (ATM). Within ATM, the practice of speed harmonization is well suited to improving safety and reducing delay. In this study, speed harmonization is applied to a segment of Interstate Highway 35, just south of downtown Austin, Texas. First, the need for congestion and safety improvements will be established. Then, the framework of a speed harmonization system will be developed through a synthesis of speed harmonization best practice. Next, the speed harmonization framework will be evaluated for its impact on efficiency through the development of before and after micro-simulation models. Finally, the trajectory files generated from simulation will be analyzed using surrogate safety measures to assess the safety impact of the proposed speed harmonization system.

Book Managing Speed

Download or read book Managing Speed written by and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1998 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB Special Report 254 - Managing Speed: Review of Current Practices for Setting and Enforcing Speed Limits reviews practices for setting and enforcing speed limits on all types of roads and provides guidance to state and local governments on appropriate methods of setting speed limits and related enforcement strategies. Following an executive summary, the report is presented in six chapters and five appendices.

Book Economic Analysis Primer

Download or read book Economic Analysis Primer written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This primer provides a foundation for understanding the role of economic analysis in highway decision making. It is oriented toward state and local officials who have responsibility for assuring that limited resources get targeted to their best uses and who must publicly account for their decisions. Economic analysis is presented as an integral component of a comprehensive infrastructure management methodology that takes a long-term view of infrastructure performance and cost. The primer encompasses a full range of economic issues, including economic fundamentals, life-cycle cost analysis, benefit-cost analysis, forecasting traffic for benefit calculations, risk analysis and economic impact analysis.

Book Peak period Traffic Congestion

Download or read book Peak period Traffic Congestion written by Roberta Remak and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 1976-01-01 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report describes options available within the present state of the art, compares their probable costs and benefits, and makes specific recommendations for solutions to different types of peak-period congestion. Twenty two individual techniques in eleven major categories are identified. They include social approaches, socioeconomic approaches, sociotechnical approaches, and technical approaches. The techniques were considered relative to their benefits and costs. Their effectiveness in treating different congestion problems was measured. Two aspects of timing of impacts were considered. Nine categories of indirect benefits and disbenefits were identified as factors that should be weighted in decision to implement any of the techniques.

Book Traffic Flow Theory

Download or read book Traffic Flow Theory written by Daiheng Ni and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2015-11-09 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creating Traffic Models is a challenging task because some of their interactions and system components are difficult to adequately express in a mathematical form.
