Download or read book Seminar On Fission Pont D oye Iv written by Cyriel Wagemans and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000-04-05 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the proceedings of the fourth meeting in a series of topical conferences dealing with the process of nuclear fission, mainly at low excitation energy. Two chapters deal with the characteristics of one of the major fission observables, i.e. the fission fragments. The book also gives due attention to an often-neglected aspect of fission, the so-called ternary fission (i.e. fission accompanied by a charged light particle). Another chapter deals with fission barriers and cross sections and the link with astrophysics. Special attention is also given to recent applications such as accelerator-driven systems and transmutation. The last chapter discusses various interesting aspects of nuclear fission.
Download or read book From the Big Bang to the Nucleosynthesis written by A. Bracco and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physicists have devoted much effort to reproducing the conditions of the primordial universe in laboratory conditions in their quest to work out a comprehensive theory of the appearance and evolution of nuclear matter. Whether it be trying to recreate the predicted primordial state of high-energy density matter in which quarks and gluons are effectively deconfined - the so-called Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) - or exploring the structure and reaction properties of very unstable nuclei in experiments using radioactive beams, they have striven to understand the events which characterized the Big Bang and the various nucleosynthesis mechanisms which occur in the stars. This book contains the proceedings of the 2010 Enrico Fermi summer school held in Varenna, Italy, in July 2010, and devoted to the present understanding of the primordial universe and the origin of the elements, as achieved by studying nuclei and their constituents in extreme regimes of energy and composition. Subjects covered include: QGP formation; exotic nuclei, their degrees of freedom from the ground state and the properties of the excited states; the complex, but appealing theory describing the supernovae explosion and neutron stars; dark energy and matter; Big Bang nucleosynthesis and energy and solar neutrino production; nuclear cosmochronology; beta and gamma decay relevant for the nucleosynthesis of heavy nuclei. The annual Enrico Fermi summer school is internationally renowned and this book will be of great interest to all those involved in the field of nuclear physics.

Download or read book International Symposium on Nuclear Structure Physics written by Peter von Brentano and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear structure physics is undergoing a major revival, full of activities and excitement. On the experimental side, this is being made possible by advances in detector technology and accelerator capabilities that give access to data and nuclei (especially exotic nuclei far from stability) never before accessible. On the theoretical side, new concepts, ideas and computational techniques are advancing our understanding of effective interactions, nucleonic correlations, and symmetries of structure. This volume covers a broad range of topics on nuclear structure, including collective excitations, protonOConeutron excitation modes, phase transitions, signatures of structure, isospin, structure at both high and low angular momenta, recent developments in nuclear theory, the vast new realm of exotic nuclei far from the valley of stability, and the latest technological advances of detectors and facilities which will lead this branch of physics into the future. Contents: New Class of Dynamic Symmetries (F Iachello); Real Photon Scattering Close to the Neutron Threshold (A Zilges et al.); Decay Out of a Superdeformed Band (H A Weidenmller); Recent Developments of the Nuclear Shell Model (T Otsuka); Aspects of Nuclear Structure at Low Isospin (D D Warner); Isovector Valence Shell Excitations in Heavy Nuclei (N Pietralla); Structure of Nuclei Beyond the Dripline (M Thoennessen); Applications of High Resolution Gamma Spectroscopy in Low Energy Nuclear Structure Research (H G BArner et al.); Clusterization and Composite Symmetries (J Cseh); Recent Results from the Mistral Mass Measurement Program at Isolde (M de Saint Simon et al.); Big Bang Entropy (G S Ioannidis & C Syros); Phase Instabilities in Nuclear Matter and Droplet Formation (R Ogul & U Atav); and other papers. Readership: Researchers, academics, graduate students and post-docs in nuclear physics."

This book was released on 2004-08-12 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research with radioactive ion beams has entered a new era with the advent of energetic beams of radioactive nuclei able to induce nuclear reactions. The present book is the first volume of edited lectures based on material presented at the Euroschool on Exotic Beams over the past years. It introduces the graduate student and nonspecialist scientist from related areas to various topics encompassing theoretical, experimental as well as application-related aspects of this growing field of research.

Download or read book Nuclear Spectroscopy and Reactions 40 C written by Joseph Cerny and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nuclear Spectroscopy and Reactions, Part C covers information regarding the development of nuclear spectroscopy and its reactions, while emphasizing in-beam spectroscopy. This part covers gamma-ray spectroscopy and other relevant topics that are not discussed in the previous parts. Comprised of only two sections, this book first covers topics relevant to gamma-ray spectroscopy, such as the excitation and reorientation of coulombs; magnetic moments of excited fields; gamma rays from capture reactions; spectroscopy from fission; angular correlation methods; and lifetime measurements. The second section covers other topics that are relevant to nuclear spectroscopy, such as photonuclear reactions; nuclear spectroscopy from delayed particle emission; in-beam atomic spectroscopy; effects of extranuclear fields on nuclear radiations; and a guide to nuclear compilations. This book is written to primarily benefit graduate students who are engaged in research that concerns nuclear spectroscopy.

Book excerpt: The Sixth International Conference on Atomic Masses was held in East Lansing, Michigan, Sept. 18-21, 1979. The conference was initiated, organized, and sponsored by the Commission on Atomic Masses and Fundamental Constants of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. The members of the conference committee are listed below: W. Benenson, Chairman Michigan State University R. C. Barber University of-Manitoba E. R. Cohen Rockwell International Institute of Chemical Physics, V. I. Goldanskii Moscow J. C. Hardy Chalk River, Canada W. H. Johnson University of Minnesota E. Kashy Michigan State University Orsay, France R. Klapisch J. A. Nolen, Jr. Michigan State University R. G. H. Robertson Michigan State University E. Roeckl G. S. I. , Darmstadt B. N. Taylor National Bureau of Standards O. Schult IKF, Julich A. H. Wapstra IFO, Amsterdam N. Zeldes Racah Institute, Jerusalem The conference was a little different from the preceding one (in Paris, 1975) in that the fundamental constant aspects were limited to those directly related to atomic masses. The gap is to be filled by the second International Conference on Precision Measurement and Fundamental Constants which is now scheduled for June 1981 in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Only one of the seven sessions in this conference was devoted to fundamental constant determina tions. The conference was very strongly supported by the Department of Energy, the National Science Foundation, and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics.
