Book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and Transition Metal Chemistry

Download or read book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and Transition Metal Chemistry written by P. Gütlich and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two decades have passed since the original discovery of recoilless nuclear gamma resonance by Rudolf Mossbauer; the spectroscopic method based on this resonance effect - referred to as Mossbauer spectroscopy - has developed into a powerful tool in solid-state research. The users are chemists, physicists, biologists, geologists, and scientists from other disciplines, and the spectrum of problems amenable to this method has become extraordinarily broad. In the present volume we have confined ourselves to applications of Mossbauer spectroscopy to the area of transition elements. We hope that the book will be useful not only to non-Mossbauer special ists with problem-Oriented activities in the chemistry and physics of transition elements, but also to those actively working in the field of Mossbauer spectroscopy on systems (compounds as well as alloys) of transition elements. The first five chapters are directed to introducing the reader who is not familiar with the technique to the principles of the recoilless nuclear resonance effect, the hyperfme interactions between nuclei and electronic properties such as electric and magnetic fields, some essential aspects about measurements, and the evaluation of Moss bauer spectra. Chapter 6 deals with the interpretation of Mossbauer parameters of iron compounds. Here we have placed emphasis on the information about the electronic structure, in correlation with quantum chemical methods, because of its importance for chemical bonding and magnetic properties.

Book Spectroscopy of Transition Metal Ions on Surfaces

Download or read book Spectroscopy of Transition Metal Ions on Surfaces written by Bert M. Weckhuysen and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical industries are based on catalytic processes as both bulk and fine chemicals are often produced with heterogeneous catalysts. Transition metal ions dispersed on high-surface area inorganic solids are very important catalysts and a full characterization of these materials requires a profound knowledge of the oxidation state, coordination environment and dispersion of the metal ions on the catalyst surface. Such information can only be obtained by using a combination of complementary spectroscopic techniques. 'Spectroscopy of Transition metal ions on Surfaces' serves as an introduction to some of the most important spectroscopic techniques nowadays used for studying the chemistry and catalytic properties of transition metal ions on surfaces. The basic principles and the strengths and weaknesses of continuous wave electron spin resonance, pulsed electron spin resonance, solid state nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are critically reviewed by internationally recognized experts. This gives the reader a solid background for judging literature results and for planning and conducting his/her own experiments. Each chapter closes with several relevant examples mainly from the recent literature. In addition, the use of in situ techniques and chemometrical techniques has been included because of its growing importance in catalyst characterization. As a consequence, the book has been written as a text not only for graduate students, but also for anyone else who is new in the field and wants a recent update. Download or read book Applied Atomic Spectroscopy written by E. L. Grove and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the first appearance of the classic The Spectrum Analysis in 1885 to the present the field of emission spectroscopy has been evolving and changing. Over the last 20 to 30 years in particular there has been an explosion of new ideas and developments. Of late, the aura of glamour has supposedly been transferred to other techniques, but, nevertheless, it is estimated that 75% or more of the analyses done by the metal industry are accomplished by emission spectroscopy. Further, the excellent sensitivity of plasma sources has created a demand for this technique in such divergent areas as direct trace element analyses in polluted waters. Developments in the replication process and advances in the art of pro ducing ruled and holographic gratings as well as improvements in the materials from which these gratings are made have made excellent gratings available at reasonable prices. This availability and the development of plane grating mounts have contributed to the increasing popularity of grating spectrometers as com pared with the large prism spectrograph and concave grating mounts. Other areas of progress include new and improved methods for excitation, the use of controlled atmospheres and the extension of spectrometry into the vacuum region, the widespread application of the techniques for analysis of nonmetals in metals, the increasing use of polychrometers with concave or echelle gratings and improved readout systems for better reading of spectrographic plates and more efficient data handling.

Book An Approach to Chemical Analysis

Download or read book An Approach to Chemical Analysis written by H. N. Wilson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Approach to Chemical Analysis: Its Development and Practice provides an overview of the development of chemical analysis and its application in solving analytical problems in chemistry. The text is comprised of 19 chapters that are organized into two parts. In the first part, the text covers the historical aspects of chemical. The book then proceeds to tackling methods for analysis in which the final measurement is preceded by one or more chemical reactions. The first two chapters of the second part discuss distillation and chromatography, respectively. Next, the title details the physical methods that only occasionally and incidentally need to be preceded by chemical reactions. The text will be of great use for students, researchers, and practitioners of chemistry.
