Download or read book Essentials of Modern Physics Applied to the Study of the Infrared written by Armand Hadni and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-07-29 with total page 747 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essentials of Modern Physics Applied to the Study of the Infrared covers topics about the essentials of modern physics. The book starts with the situation of research into the infrared and the problems to which it gives rise, and then discusses instrumentation in the infrared: optics, sources, receivers and electronics. The book describes the interaction between the infrared and matter within the framework of Lorentz's general theory and in the particular case of solids using Born's theory and introducing the notion of phonons. The region of the electromagnetic spectrum and the developments in science and industry, including X-ray analysis, molecular beam experiments, radio, and television are considered. The book tackles the sources of infrared as well as infrared detectors. The text will be useful to physicists, engineers, and laboratory technicians.
Download or read book Infrared Detection Techniques for Space Research written by V. Manno and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infrared Astronomy is a relatively new subject but it has already radically altered our ideas about astronomical sources. Recent progress in this subject is the result of improved detection techniques, particularly the use of detectors at liquid helium temperatures. Unfortunately, the terrestrial atmosphere greatly restricts Infrared astronomers by allowing them to detect radiation only in narrow transmission win dows and by presenting a foreground emission which limits the faintness of observable sources. It is only from aircraft or balloon altitudes that we can begin to observe faint sources over the complete range of wavelengths between the visible and the radio regions. Few such observations have yet been made and none from satellites, although the latter vehicle will offer complete freedom from atmospheric effects. New developments and intermediate steps will be required before the ultimate aim of flying in space can be achieved. It is not surprising therefore that the Fifth Eslab/Esrin Symposium should deal with this problem. This book contains the proceedings of the Symposium and faithfully records all discussions. The Symposium covered the present situation and future perspectives of IR techniques. International leaders in the field reviewed the results to date and the possible developments in telescope systems, detectors, cryogenics, filters, and interferometers. Individual con tributions were made by European and U. S. scientists in each of these fields.
Download or read book Molecular Spectroscopy written by R F Barrow and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

Book excerpt: Molecular Spectroscopy: Modern Research explores the advances in several phases of research in molecular spectroscopy. This eight-chapter book commemorates the 25th anniversary of the annual Columbus Symposium on Molecular Structure and Spectroscopy, held in September, 1970. This book highlights the spectroscopic studies of molecular species in the gas phase and in matrices. Representative articles are also included that cover the applications of molecular studies in a wide variety of areas such as biophysics, astrophysical problems, and energy transfer processes. Other chapters describe the progress achieved in the technology of high resolution spectroscopy and the techniques and terminology of Lamb-dip spectroscopy. A comprehensive bibliography is included for most of the subjects discussed and this text concludes with tables of standard data listing secondary wavelength standards, fundamental constants, atomic masses, and conversion factors of interest to spectroscopists. Spectroscopists, chemists, and researchers will find this work invaluable.

Download or read book Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy written by A. Mangini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in Molecular Spectroscopy, Volume 3 provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of inorganic molecules and complexes. This book covers a variety of topics, including infrared spectrum, polyatomic ions, infrared emissions, and Raman spectra. Organized into five parts encompassing 72 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the infrared spectrum of pyridine. This text then examines the results from studies of the infrared and Raman spectra of N2O4 in the solid and liquid phases at low temperatures. Other chapters consider the infrared spectrum of a mixture of N2O3 and N2O4, which has been studied in the liquid phase from 2 to 25 μ and in the solid phase from 2 to 35 μ, both at low temperatures. The final chapter describes the instrument developed for the measurement of rotatory dispersion and discusses some of the results obtained in the study of the complexes. This book is a valuable resource for chemists.
Download or read book Infrared Spectroscopy of Minerals and Related Compounds written by Nikita V. Chukanov and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-03-09 with total page 1117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the application of IR spectroscopy in mineralogical investigations, as well as modern trends in the IR spectroscopy of minerals. It includes the most important methodological aspects; characteristic IR bands of different chemical groups and coordination polyhedra; application of IR spectroscopy to the investigation of the crystal chemistry of amphiboles, phyllosilicates, tourmalines etc.; neutral molecules entrapped by microporous minerals; and analysis of hydrogen in nominally anhydrous minerals. About 1600 IR spectra (illustrations as well as a list of wavenumbers) of minerals and some related compounds are accompanied by detailed descriptions of the standard samples used. Each spectrum provides information about the occurrence, appearance, associated minerals, its empirical formula, and unit-cell parameters. The book also provides insights into sample preparation and/or spectrum registration methods. It includes IR spectra of 1020 minerals that were not covered in the book “Infrared spectra of mineral species: Extended library” published in 2014 and written by one of the authors. On average, each page provides information on two minerals/compounds. Subsections correspond to different classes of compounds (silicates, phosphates, arsenates, oxides etc.). About 290 new spectra have been obtained, and the remaining 1310 spectra are taken from most reliable literature sources (published over the last 60 years) and are redrawn in a unified style.

Download or read book Soil Components written by J. E. Gieseking and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The major components of most soils are inorganic. These constituents are derived from the weathering of rocks and minerals or from subsequent reaetions and interactions of the weathering products. During the weathering and interactions of weathering products, in organic soil colloids are formed. Large amounts of inorganic colloids are essential in soils if they are to support luxurious plant growth. The colloids adsorb water and nutrient element s that might be lost from the soil &ystem and they release these as plants need them. They also adsorb and buffer the soil system against large excesses of soluble toxic substances that might otherwise exist as free moieties in soils. Soil and plant root interactions occur across two interfaces. One is the interface between plant roots and the liquid phase and the other is the interface between the soil particles and the liquid phase. Reaetions across the interface between colloid crystals and the soilliquid phase may also suppress the availability of nutrient elements to plants. The effectiveness of these interfaciaI reaetions in supporting optimum plant growth ultimately depends on the arrangements of ions in the surfaces and subsurfaces of the mineraI crystals. For this reason much of this volume is devoted to the arrangement of ions in crystalline mineraI particles commonly occuring in soils and the properties that these particles contribute to soiI systems.
