Download or read book Spectroscopic Analysis of Molecular Fluids at the Solid liquid Interface written by Samantha Lynn Nania and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results show significant changes in the vibrational profile as a function of film thicknesses and rotational velocity as the alkyl-chains increase in length. These are ascribed to changes in primary carbon attached to the nitrogen as a function shearing and the rigidity of the molecule. These results reveal interactions taking place at the solid-liquid interface and have impacts on a broad spectrum of industrial, commercial, and research applications including lubrication and transportation vehicles.

Book Spectroscopic Studies of Fluid Solid Interfaces

Download or read book Spectroscopic Studies of Fluid Solid Interfaces written by Joel M. Harris and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This program of research has been to develop spectrosco pic methods for exploring chemical structure and molecular dynamics at interfaces between dielectric solids and liquids or supercritical fluids. The research was carried out using fluorescence and vibrational spectroscopy from probe molecules where spectral and temporal differences in emission, absorption, or scattering provide information about the surface onto which they are absorbed or bound. Studies focused on the interfacial chemistry of silica and derivatized silica surfaces in contact with liquids and dense gases. The spectral response of probe molecules was used to observe differences in the chemical environment at the liquid-solid interface due to the presence of bound or adsorbed molecules. (jes).

Book Physical Chemistry of Gas Liquid Interfaces

Download or read book Physical Chemistry of Gas Liquid Interfaces written by Jennifer A. Faust and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-05-31 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physical Chemistry of Gas-Liquid Interfaces, the first volume in the Developments in Physical & Theoretical Chemistry series, addresses the physical chemistry of gas transport and reactions across liquid surfaces. Gas–liquid interfaces are all around us, especially within atmospheric systems such as sea spry aerosols, cloud droplets, and the surface of the ocean. Because the reaction environment at liquid surfaces is completely unlike bulk gas or bulk liquid, chemists must readjust their conceptual framework when entering this field. This book provides the necessary background in thermodynamics and computational and experimental techniques for scientists to obtain a thorough understanding of the physical chemistry of liquid surfaces in complex, real-world environments. - 2019 PROSE Awards - Winner: Category: Chemistry and Physics: Association of American Publishers - Provides an interdisciplinary view of the chemical dynamics of liquid surfaces, making the content of specific use to physical chemists and atmospheric scientists - Features 100 figures and illustrations to underscore key concepts and aid in retention for young scientists in industry and graduate students in the classroom - Helps scientists who are transitioning to this field by offering the appropriate thermodynamic background and surveying the current state of research

Book Vibrational Spectroscopy of Molecular Liquids and Solids

Download or read book Vibrational Spectroscopy of Molecular Liquids and Solids written by S. Bratos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has its or1g1n in a NATO Summer School organized from June 25 to July 7 1979, in Menton, France. The purpose of this School was a comparative study of the various aspects of vibra tional spectroscopy in molecular liquids and solids. This field has been rapidly expanding in the last decade; unfortunately, its development took place independently for liquids and for solids. In these circumstances, the comparison of the basic concepts and techniques used in these two branches of physics appeared as a necessity. The lectures given at the Menton Advanced Study Institute, as well as the exceptionally fruitful and lively discussions which followed them confirmed this point of view. The need of putting together these lectures, in the form of a monograph, clearly appeared during the ASI and the lecturers accepted to write down the material they presented at the Institute, improved thanks to the remarks of the participants. It is the result of this collective work which appears in the familiar Plenum Series.

Book Observation and Molecular Ordering at the Liquid Liquid Interface by Resonant Sum Frequency Generation

Download or read book Observation and Molecular Ordering at the Liquid Liquid Interface by Resonant Sum Frequency Generation written by and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibrational spectrum of an amphiphilic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) at the interface between two immisicible liquids, D2O/CCl4, has been obtained for the first time by resonant sum frequency generation. The vibrational spectra obtained offer spectroscopic evidence for interfacial ordering of the alkyl chain as a function of surface coverage. Analysis of the ratio of the methyl/methylene peak intensities as a function of bulk aqueous phase concentration of SDS suggests that unlike the liquid-air and solid-liquid interfaces SDS is considerably more disordered at the liquid-liquid interface. jg.

Book Investigation of Molecular Structures and Ordering at Solid Liquid Interfaces Using Novel Emersion Vibrational Spectroscopy

Download or read book Investigation of Molecular Structures and Ordering at Solid Liquid Interfaces Using Novel Emersion Vibrational Spectroscopy written by Shinobu Tsuruta Heier and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 1066 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular level understanding of solid-liquid interfaces in ambient condition is still a challenging, but exciting area. The work presented here demonstrates the effectiveness of emersion IRRAS as a new tool in our arsenal to expand our understanding of solid-liquid interfaces through the investigation of model solvent/organically modified interfaces and electrochemically relevant interfaces using novel emersion spectroscopy. The emersion approach effectively isolates the molecularly-thin emersed liquid layer under ambient conditions by physically removing bulk liquid from the interface. Without the interferences from bulk liquid, the emersed layer is accessible with conventional spectroscopic methods. In this work, development and implementation of emersion IRRAS is first described. Emersion IRRAS was used to investigate the model solvents water and methanol at three w-terminated-SAM-modified Ag surfaces (11-MUA, 11-MUD, and UDT-modified Ag) possessing a range of surface energies. These surfaces had been previously characterized with emersion Raman spectroscopy and/or ellipsometry. Furthermore, solvation of CO on Pt by three solvents (methanol, acetonitrile, and water) was investigated in an effort to attain molecular-level insight into electrochemically-relevant interfaces. Experimental results presented show successful implementation of emersion IRRAS. For each of the systems studied, interfacial solvent spectra clearly differed from those of bulk solvents indicating unique molecular structures of emersed liquids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of the liquid-liquid interface on the earth might be as old as that of the liquid. It is plausible that the generation of the primitive cell membrane is responsible for an accidental advent of the oldest liquid interfaces, since various compounds can be concentrated by an adsorption at the interface. The presence of liquid-liquid interface means that real liquids are far from ideal liquids that must be miscible with any kinds of liquids and have no interface. Thus it can be said that the non-ideality of liquids might generate the liquid-liquid interface indeed and that biological systems might be generated from the non-ideal interface. The liquid-liquid interface has been, therefore, studied as a model of biological membrane. From pairing two-phases of gas, liquid and solid, nine different pairs can be obtained, which include three homo-pairs of gas-gas, liquid-liquid and solid-solid pairs. The gas-gas interface, however, is practically no use under the ordinary conditions. Among the interfaces produced by the pairing, the liquid-liquid interface is most slippery and difficult to be studied experimentally in comparison with the gas-liquid and solid-liquid interfaces, as the liquid-liquid interface is flexible, thin and buried between bulk liquid phases. Therefore, in order to study the liquid-liquid interface, the invention of innovative measurement methods has a primary importance.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This program of research is to develop spectroscopic methods for exploring chemical structure and molecular dynamics at interfaces between dielectric solids and liquids. The research is carried out using fluorescence and vibrational spectroscopy from probe molecules where spectral and temporal differences in emission, absorption, or scattering provide information about the surface onto which they are adsorbed or bound.
