Book Special Topics and General Characteristics

Download or read book Special Topics and General Characteristics written by David Weinman and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Infectious Blood Diseases of Man and Animals: Diseases Caused by Protista, Volume I: Special Topics and General Characteristics focuses on the critical analysis of metabolic, immuno-pathologic, taxonomic, ultrastructural, locomotor, ecologic, zoonotic, and other features of the protistan blood diseases. The selection first offers information on ecology and host-parasite relationship; basis of host cell-parasite specificity; and abrogation of immunological tolerance as a model for autoimmunity. Topics include interactions in disease transmission, types of host-parasite relationship, and experimental abrogation of tolerance. The text then takes a look at autoimmune response and pathogenesis of blood parasite disease and blood parasite antigens and antibodies. The publication examines the zoonotic potential of blood parasites, including diseases caused by bacteria and spirochetes and trypanosomiasis. The text then focuses on the cultivation and nutritional requirements and biological leads to chemotherapy of blood Protista. Discussions focus on organisms developing within the blood cells; energy metabolism and chemotherapeutic targets; and protozoa developing primarily in the plasma. The book is a valuable reference for readers interested in the diseases caused by Protista.

Book Selected Topics On The General Properties Of Quantum Field Theory Lecture Notes

Download or read book Selected Topics On The General Properties Of Quantum Field Theory Lecture Notes written by Franco Strocchi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1993-11-30 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a readable account of the foundations of QFT, in particular of the Euclidean formulation with emphasis on the interplay between physical requirements and mathematical structures. The general structures underlying the conventional local (renormalizable) formulation of gauge QFT are discussed also on the basis of simple models. The mechanism of confinement, non-trivial topology and θ-vacua, chiral symmetry breaking and solution of the U(1) problem are clarified through a careful analysis of the Schwinger model, which settles unclear or debated points.

Book Genre Analysis and Corpus Design

Download or read book Genre Analysis and Corpus Design written by Ulrike Henny-Krahmer and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2023-12-31 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work in the field of digital literary stylistics and computational literary studies is concerned with theoretical concerns of literary genre, with the design of a corpus of nineteenth-century Spanish-American novels, and with its empirical analysis in terms of subgenres of the novel. The digital text corpus consists of 256 Argentine, Cuban, and Mexican novels from the period between 1830 and 1910. It has been created with the goal to analyze thematic subgenres and literary currents that were represented in numerous novels in the nineteenth century by means of computational text categorization methods. To categorize the texts, statistical classification and a family resemblance analysis relying on network analysis are used with the aim to examine how the subgenres, which are understood as communicative, conventional phenomena, can be captured on the stylistic, textual level of the novels that participate in them.

Book Fundamentals of Waves and Oscillations

Download or read book Fundamentals of Waves and Oscillations written by K. U. Ingard and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1988-07-28 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook, addressed primarily to physics and engineering students, is a comprehensive introduction to waves and oscillations, both mechanical and electromagnetic. Elementary aspects of matter waves are also considered. One objective is to illustrate the physics involved in the description and analysis of waves through a wide range of examples, from purely mechanical and purely electromagnetic to coupled electro-mechanical waves, such as plasma oscillations and hydromagnetic waves. In this process, the use of complex amplitudes in the mathematical analysis is illuminated and encouraged to make tractable a wider range of problems than is ordinarily considered in an introductory text. General concepts and wave phenomena such as wave energy and momentum, interference, diffraction, scattering, dispersion, and the Doppler effect are illustrated by numerous examples and demonstrations. Among the special topics covered are waves on periodic structures and in solids, wave guides, a detailed analysis of light scattering from thermal fluctuations of a liquid surface, and feedback instabilities. Important ideas and equations are displayed in boxes for easy reference, and there are numerous examples throughout the text and exercises at the end of every chapter. Undergraduates and graduates should find this an indispensable account of this central subject in science and engineering.

Book Special Topics in Renewable Energy Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable energy is the answer for future energy demand. Renewable energy is the energy that occurs in a natural manner and utilizes unlimited resources. It is the solution for reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and diminishing greenhouse gas emission. It is the key for cleaner, greener, and sustainable energy. In today's world, increased energy needs and environmental and health concerns associated with traditional energy systems have made way for rapid progress in producing energy from renewable resources. However, large-scale integration of current technologies and newer approaches are still required for more efficient and cost-effective systems. This small book is a collection of single research chapters dealing with biofuel generation and some recent methods for grid integration and storage problems. The editors would like to record their sincere thanks to the authors for their contributions.
