Book The Parametric Lambda Calculus

Download or read book The Parametric Lambda Calculus written by Simona Ronchi Della Rocca and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-07-05 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The parametric lambda calculus is a metamodel for reasoning about various kinds of computations. Its syntactic definition is based on the notion of "sets of input values", and different lambda calculi can be obtained from it by instantiating such sets in suitable ways. The parametric lambda calculus is used as a tool for presenting in a uniform way basic notions of programming languages, and for studying with a uniform approach some lambda calculi modeling different kinds of computations, such as call-by-name, both in its lazy and non-lazy versions, and call-by-value. The parametric presentation allows us both to prove in one step all the fundamental properties of different calculi, and to compare them with each other. The book includes some classical results in the field of lambda calculi, but completely rephrased using the parametric approach, together with some new results. The lambda calculi are presented from a computer science viewpoint, with particular emphasis on their semantics, both operational and denotational. This book is dedicated to researchers, and can be used as a textbook for masters or Ph.D. courses on the foundations of computer science.

Book CafeOBJ Report

    Book Details:
  • Author : Razvan Diaconescu
  • Publisher : World Scientific
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 9789810235130
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book CafeOBJ Report written by Razvan Diaconescu and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1998 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a report on the formal definition of the CafeOBJ algebraic specification language, which is a modern successor to the famous algebraic language OBJ. While the equational core of CafeOBJ is just a reshaping of OBJ, CafeOBJ significantly extends OBJ by incorporating several recent major developments in the area of algebraic specification, such as behavioural specification and rewriting logic. The definition of the language parallels its logical semantics based on the so-called institutions, which also provide a methodological framework for structuring the presentation of the basic constructs of the language and their semantics. This report presents all the basic constructs of the language together with their semantics and addresses both the programming in-the-small and in-the-large levels. However, it also discusses proof systems and technologies, as well as methodologies. Examples are provided throughout the report as intuitive support for the definitions of the constructs and for illustrating proof techniques and methodologies.

Book Reflection in Rewriting Logic

Download or read book Reflection in Rewriting Logic written by Manuel Clavel and published by Stanford Univ Center for the Study. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reflection, the capacity to represent our ideas and to make them the object of our own thoughts, has for many centuries been recognized as a key mark of human intelligence. The very success and extension of reflective ideas in logic and computer science underscores the need for conceptual foundations. This book proposes a general theory of reflective logics and reflective declarative programming languages. This theory provides a conceptual foundation for judging the extent to which a computational system is reflective. Manuel Clavel presents a proof of the reflective nature of rewriting logic and provides examples of the potential for reflective programming in a number of novel computer applications. These applications are implemented in Maude, a reflective programming language and environment based on rewriting logic that can define, represent and execute a breadth of logics, languages and models of computation. A general method to easily build theorem-proving tools in Maude is also proposed and illustrated. The book goes on to promote the notion of a "universal theory" that can simulate the deductions of all representable theories within any given logic.
