Book Spatio temporal Volume based Video Event Detection

Download or read book Spatio temporal Volume based Video Event Detection written by Jing Wang and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Online and offline video clips provide rich information on dynamic events that occurred over a period of time, for example, human actions, crowd behaviours, and other subject pattern changes. Although substantial progresses have been made in the last 3 decades on 2D image feature processing and their applications in areas such as face matching and objects recognition, video event detection still remains one of the most challenging fields in computer vision study due to the wide range of continuous and non-linear signals engaged by an imaging system, and the inherent semantic difficulties in machine-based understanding of the detected feature patterns. For bridging the gap between the pixel-level image features and the semantic "meanings" of a videoed single human event, this research has investigated the problem domain through employing the 3D Spatio-Temporal Volume (STV) structure and its global feature paradigm for event pattern recognition. The process pipeline follows an improved Pair-wise Region Comparison (I-PWRC) and a region intersection (RI) based 3D template matching approach for detecting and identifying human actions under uncontrolled real-world videoing conditions. To maintain the run-time performance of this innovative system design, this programme has also developed an efficient pre-filtering mechanism to reduce the amount of voxels (volumetric pixels) that need to be processed in each operational cycle. For further improving the system's adaptability and robustness, several optimisation techniques, such as scale-invariant template matching and event location prediction mechanisms, have also been developed and implemented. The proposed design has been tested on various renowned online computer vision research databases and been benchmarked against other classic implementation strategies and systems. Satisfactory evaluation results have been obtained through statistical analyses on standard test criteria such as "Recall" rate and the processing efficiency.

Book Intelligent Video Event Analysis and Understanding

Download or read book Intelligent Video Event Analysis and Understanding written by Jianguo Zhang and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-02-02 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the vast development of Internet capacity and speed, as well as wide adop- tion of media technologies in people’s daily life, a large amount of videos have been surging, and need to be efficiently processed or organized based on interest. The human visual perception system could, without difficulty, interpret and r- ognize thousands of events in videos, despite high level of video object clutters, different types of scene context, variability of motion scales, appearance changes, occlusions and object interactions. For a computer vision system, it has been be very challenging to achieve automatic video event understanding for decades. Broadly speaking, those challenges include robust detection of events under - tion clutters, event interpretation under complex scenes, multi-level semantic event inference, putting events in context and multiple cameras, event inference from object interactions, etc. In recent years, steady progress has been made towards better models for video event categorisation and recognition, e. g. , from modelling events with bag of spatial temporal features to discovering event context, from detecting events using a single camera to inferring events through a distributed camera network, and from low-level event feature extraction and description to high-level semantic event classification and recognition. Nowadays, text based video retrieval is widely used by commercial search engines. However, it is still very difficult to retrieve or categorise a specific video segment based on their content in a real multimedia system or in surveillance applications.

Book Anomalous Event Detection from Surveillance Video

Download or read book Anomalous Event Detection from Surveillance Video written by Fan Jiang and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Content-based video analysis serves as the cornerstone for many applications: video understanding or summarization, multimedia information retrieval and data mining, etc. In our research, we aim to automatically detect anomalous events from surveillance videos (such as video monitoring traffic flow or pedestrian congestion in public spaces). Conceptually, what constitutes an anomaly varies in different video scenarios and is difficult to be defined in a general case. Our first solution is based on unsupervised clustering of object trajectories and anomalous trajectory identification in a probabilistic framework. Then we extend this solution to an arbitrary time length (any part of a complete trajectory) and multiple objects (multiple trajectories). Furthermore, we solve problems specifically in video scenarios where object trajectories cannot be extracted (e.g., crowd motion analysis). Our contributions include a novel hierarchical clustering algorithm and categorization of anomalous video events by spatiotemporal context.

Book excerpt: An authoritative treatment of urban computing, offering an overview of the field, fundamental techniques, advanced models, and novel applications. Urban computing brings powerful computational techniques to bear on such urban challenges as pollution, energy consumption, and traffic congestion. Using today's large-scale computing infrastructure and data gathered from sensing technologies, urban computing combines computer science with urban planning, transportation, environmental science, sociology, and other areas of urban studies, tackling specific problems with concrete methodologies in a data-centric computing framework. This authoritative treatment of urban computing offers an overview of the field, fundamental techniques, advanced models, and novel applications. Each chapter acts as a tutorial that introduces readers to an important aspect of urban computing, with references to relevant research. The book outlines key concepts, sources of data, and typical applications; describes four paradigms of urban sensing in sensor-centric and human-centric categories; introduces data management for spatial and spatio-temporal data, from basic indexing and retrieval algorithms to cloud computing platforms; and covers beginning and advanced topics in mining knowledge from urban big data, beginning with fundamental data mining algorithms and progressing to advanced machine learning techniques. Urban Computing provides students, researchers, and application developers with an essential handbook to an evolving interdisciplinary field.

Book Exploiting Concepts In Videos For Video Event Detection

Download or read book Exploiting Concepts In Videos For Video Event Detection written by Ethem Can and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Video event detection is the task of searching videos for events of interest to a user where an event is a complex activity which is localized in time and space. The video event detection problem has gained more importance as the amount of online video is increasing by more than 300 hours every minute on Youtube alone. In this thesis, we tackle three major video event detection problems: video event detection with exemplars (VED-ex), where a large number of example videos are associated with queries; video event detection with few exemplars (VED-ex_few), in which only a small number of example videos are associated with queries; and zero-shot video event detection (VED-zero), where no exemplar videos are associated with queries. We first define a new way of describing videos concisely, one that is built around using query-independent concepts (e.g., a fixed set of concepts for all queries) with a space-efficient representation. Using query-independent concepts enables us to learn a retrieval model for any query without requiring a new set of concepts. Our space-efficient representation helps reduce the amount of time required to train/test a retrieval model and the amount of space to store video representations on disk. When the number of example videos associated with a query decreases, the retrieval accuracy decreases as well. We present a method that incorporates multiple one-exemplar models into video event detection aiming at improving retrieval accuracies when there are few exemplars available. By incorporating multiple one-exemplar models into video event detection with few exemplars, we are able to obtain significant improvements in terms of mean average precision compared to the case of a monolithic model. Having no exemplar videos associated with queries makes the video event detection problem more challenging as we cannot train a retrieval model using example videos. It is also more realistic since compiling a number of example videos might be costly. We tackle this problem by providing a new and effective zero-shot video event detection model that exploits dependencies of concepts in videos. Our dependency work uses a Markov Random Field (MRF) based retrieval model and assumes three dependency settings: 1) full independence, where each concept is considered independently; 2) spatial dependence, where the co-occurrence of two concepts in the same video frame is treated as important; and 3) temporal dependence, where having concepts co-occur in consecutive frames is treated as important. Our MRF based retrieval model improves retrieval accuracies significantly compared to the common bag-of-concepts approach with an independence assumption.
