This book was released on 2021-02-02 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s always been something wrong with me but I’m not sure what. I’ve had daydreams of angels since I was a child, specifically a guardian angel to rescue me from my addicted mom, nonexistent father, and friendless existence. You see, there’s a mystery surrounding my birth. One that mom won’t talk about. One that keeps her checking out every single February 2nd...that’s my birthday, but from her behavior, you’d think it was doomsday. I’ve always known something was missing. Like there’s a hole in my heart that needs... That’s the thing. I don’t know what it needs but it’s left me feeling unworthy of love at all. But now odd events are happening. Like visitations from a robin, visions I can’t explain, and an out-of-body experience—if that’s what it really was. I’m starting to question everything. What secrets have my parents been keeping? Who am I, really? And could I be worthy of love in more ways than I ever imagined? If Angels Whisper is an emotional, heartfelt short story (approx. 10,000 words) with fantasy realism and spiritual elements. *** “An inspirational story of love and healing.” “Whether you’re looking for Christian Teen Fantasy or just inspirational fantasy fiction, this one will make you cry. Download or read book Cold Case Squad written by Edna Buchanan and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2004-06-15 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Like all things good and bad in the world, it began with a woman..." And so begins the first chapter of Edna Buchanan's Cold Case Squad, a new suspense novel that features a special homicide unit that breathes new life into old cases. A man and a woman are shot dead at a strip club in Miami Beach. A few hours later, an explosion in a garage rocks a child's birthday party and burns a father of three to death. The murders go unsolved and the fire is chalked up to an accident. But was it an accident? Twelve years later, a blonde walks in to the Miami Police Department's Cold Case Squad -- which Buchanan fans will remember from The Ice Maiden -- and complains that she's been seeing her husband everywhere she goes. Trouble is, he's been dead for twelve years. In Buchanan's characteristic voice, "Some guys just don't know when to let go." As the Cold Case Squad unearths the details of the strip club deaths and the dead or missing father -- as well as the unsolved killings of a series of little old ladies -- readers get to know the three cops and their boss: veteran homicide detective Sergeant Craig Burch, whose marriage has turned into a case he can't solve; Detective Sam Stone, for whom the past will always be a mystery; Detective Pete Nazario, airlifted out of Cuba during "Operation Pedro Pan" in the 1960s; and Lieutenant K. C. Riley, for whom one case will never grow cold. Edna Buchanan has been thrilling readers since her Pulitzer Prize-winning stint as a crime reporter for The Miami Herald. The Chicago Tribune once raved that "few writers can touch Buchanan," to which The Washington Post Book World seemed to respond, "I doubt if anyone else is doing it better." In Cold Case Squad, Edna Buchanan, the woman the Los Angeles Daily News calls "the Queen of crime," delivers unlikely killers, near-perfect murders, and her most suspenseful novel yet.

Book excerpt: What started as a nightmare, turned into a fairytale. Some might argue, Angel Cross was doomed from the start. Born to a life of servitude and raised to be an instrument of death, the girl was never comfortable unless there was a gun in her hand. Then she went and did the craziest thing of all…she fell in love. While the rest of her friends slip into a simple routine of domesticated bliss and saving the world, Angel has a harder time finding her footing. Instead of explosives, she finds herself toting a car-seat. Instead of midnight homicides in Berlin, she finds herself sitting in back of the PTA. An accidental touch of arson sentences her to Carter-appointed therapy, throwing a spotlight on all that dissonance, but things at the PC are growing rocky as well. Case files are being altered and prisoners are going missing. An inside-person may be working behind the scenes. How long can she pull a thread, before the whole thing unravels? Was such a venture destined to fail from the start? What happens if you realize…happily ever after isn't enough? When her father’s wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she’s not thrilled…even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox. Second on Parker’s list: find a nice man to have a no-strings-attached summer fling with…if that’s even possible in a small town. Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist’s assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Download or read book The Figure of the Child in Contemporary Evangelicalism written by Anna Strhan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-09-26 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to grow up as an evangelical Christian today? What meanings does 'childhood' have for evangelical adults? How does this shape their engagements with children and with schools? And what does this mean for the everyday realities of children's lives? Based on in-depth ethnographic fieldwork carried out in three contrasting evangelical churches in the UK, Anna Strhan reveals how attending to the significance of children within evangelicalism deepens understanding of evangelicals' hopes, fears and concerns, not only for children, but for wider British society. Developing a new, relational approach to the study of children and religion, Strhan invites the reader to consider both the complexities of children's agency and how the figure of the child shapes the hopes, fears, and imaginations of adults, within and beyond evangelicalism. The Figure of the Child in Contemporary Evangelicalism explores the lived realities of how evangelical Christians engage with children across the spaces of church, school, home, and other informal educational spaces in a de-christianizing cultural context, how children experience these forms of engagement, and the meanings and significance of childhood. Providing insight into different churches' contemporary cultural and moral orientations, the book reveals how conservative evangelicals experience their understanding of childhood as increasingly countercultural, while charismatic and open evangelicals locate their work with children as a significant means of engaging with wider secular society. Setting out an approach that explores the relations between the figure of the child, children's experiences, and how adult religious subjectivities are formed in both imagined and practical relationships with children, this study situates childhood as an important area of study within the sociology of religion and examines how we should approach childhood within this field, both theoretically and methodologically.
