Book High Temperature Electrostatic Precipitation Fundamentals Phenomena and Feasibility

Download or read book High Temperature Electrostatic Precipitation Fundamentals Phenomena and Feasibility written by Patrick Bürger and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Particle separation from hot gases is a challenging task, especially for nanoparticles. Therefore, it is usually avoided by quenching the hot gas to conduct particle separation at a more convenient temperature. In these cases, valuable high-caloric heat is either not utilized at all or only inefficiently because of particle deposition on the heat exchanger surfaces. Valuable potential is thus wasted, as high-temperature processes are already an essential part of many industries and become increasingly relevant for other industrial sectors (e.g., pyrolytic processes in the circular economy). To reduce operating costs and environmental impact, the efficient use of resources (especially fossil fuels) is an absolute necessity. To tackle this pending problem, the concept of high-temperature electrostatic precipitation is investigated in this doctoral thesis. In an electrostatic precipitator, particles are charged by charge carriers produced in a corona discharge near the discharge electrode. Charged particles migrate due to the electric field and subsequently precipitate onto the collection electrode. This doctoral thesis clearly demonstrates the feasibility of nanoparticle removal from hot gases at up to 1073 K (800 °C) using electrostatic precipitation while presenting novel insights into the charge carrier properties and their distribution, the influence of thermionic emission on the operation of electrostatic precipitators, and the fundamentals of particle charging at high temperatures.

Book Applied Electrostatic Precipitation

Download or read book Applied Electrostatic Precipitation written by K.R. Parker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many industrial, power generation and chemical processes produce unwanted fine particulate material as a consequence of their operation. Electrostatic precipitation is a highly efficient method of removing entrained particulate contaminants from exhaust gases and is extensively used in these industries to limit particulate emissions. New legislation aimed at improving the environment by further limiting these discharges has resulted in the technique undergoing considerable development over the past decade, to the point where it has become the method of choice, over a wide range of applications, for limiting particulate discharges. In this new book, the editor has brought together an international team of contributors, mainly industrialists and consultants, to produce an authorative and practical guide to electrostatic precipitation. This book is of interest to all those in process industries or power generation and to academics concerned with gas cleaning and environmental issues.

Download or read book Off Gas Purification written by Annika Grafschafter and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-06-06 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When doing in the off-gas purification business you will pretty soon register that you do not act in an isolated box. You have to make yourself familiar with the interplay of your emission problem and the environment, and you have to apply a broad view of the subject. We can hardly make a forecast on your first steps in this business, except that we want you to succeed. Therefore, we want to offer engineers and graduate students the basic tools for discussing air pollution problems and for deducing strategies for process and equipment design in off-gas purification, covering the whole span from the basics to dedusting, absorption, adsorption and redox processes. The didactic concept of the work is to attract students with a ‘learning by doing’ strategy. We discuss the problems, the solver strategies and the solvers. The problem solver proposals address a multitude of pollution control technologies. The work is a compact off-gas purification guide for practitioners and students by presenting basics as well as numerous applications with many examples and problems with solutions.

Book Air Pollution V4

Download or read book Air Pollution V4 written by Arthur C. Stern and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-04-24 with total page 971 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Pollution, Third Edition, Volume IV: Engineering Control of Air Pollution focuses on the sampling, measurement, analysis, and monitoring of air pollution. This book discusses the various gas and air cleaning devices used to eliminate or reduce emissions of air polluting substances. Organized into three parts encompassing 21 chapters, this edition starts with an overview of the methods of air pollution control that are designed to minimize the production or emission of contaminants. This book then discusses the techniques of rational air use management, which is based on the principle that air quality standards have been set at levels that protect the population from harm with an acceptable margin of safety. This text explores as well the waste-disposal process of incineration in which combustible wastes are burned completely under controlled conditions. Other chapters discuss the production of nonferrous metals, which has been very significant in the development of the science of air pollution control. Engineers, physicist, chemists, meteorologists, agronomists, toxicologists, sociologists, physicians, and lawyers will find this book extremely useful.
