Book Space Exploration

Download or read book Space Exploration written by Richard Brownell and published by Greenhaven Publishing LLC. This book was released on 2012-12-07 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans have always wondered about the nature of the universe outside the tangible reaches of Earth. Not until the twentieth century could space be explored in earnest, as advances in rocket, computer, and optical technologies made crewed travel outside the atmosphere possible. Yet even after humans walked on the moon, space continues to hold many secrets that can enrich our understanding of the universe we live in. Author Richard Brownell offers a compelling account of space exploration as it has evolved and sharpened its focus. Chapters discuss the evolution of astronomy, early attempts at manned flight, the race between the Soviet Union and the United States to land on the moon, the advances in science yielding from space exploration that have changed life on Earth, and the future of space exploration as space programs contract and budgets tighten.

Book The Space Transportation Market Evolution or Revolution

Download or read book The Space Transportation Market Evolution or Revolution written by Michael J Rycroft and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: M. Rycroft, FacultyMember, InternationalSpaceUniversity e-mail:[email protected] "The Space Transportation Market: Evolution or Revolution?" was the question which was the focus for the papers presented, and also the Panel Discussions, at the fifth annual Symposium organised by the International Space University. Held in Strasbourg, France, for three lively days at the end of May 2000, the Symposium brought together representatives of the developers, providers and operators of space transportation systems, of regulatory bodies, and of users of the space transportation infrastructure in many fields, as well as experts in policy and market analysis. From the papers published here, it is clear that today's answer to the question tends more towards evolution than to revolution. The space launch industry is still not a fully mature one, and is still reliant on at least partial funding by governments. Better cooperation is essential between governments, launch providers, satellite builders and satellite operators in order to reduce the problems which the space transportation market faces today.

Book excerpt: In light of increasing and increasingly serious collisions of debris with the Space Shuttle, the 29 papers look at measuring and modelling space debris and meteoroids; risk analysis and protection; and mitigation measures, space debris handbooks, and standards. The topics include space-based observations of orbital debris, numerical and experimental studies of the shaped charge for assessing space debris, and self-induced collision hazard in high and moderate inclination satellite constellations. Book Organisation and Work Beyond 2000

Download or read book Organisation and Work Beyond 2000 written by Birger Rapp and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fifth International Telework Workshop was held in Stockholm in the fall of 2000. The conference was attended by almost 100 participants from all continents of the world. It therefore covered a broad range of subjects relating to Telework. Its success was in some part due to the work of the program committee composed of Birger Rapp (General Chairman), Maarten Botterman, Geoff Dick, Gil Gordon, Ursula Huws, Paul Jackson, Peter Johnston, Patricia L. Mokhtarian, Victor de Pous, Lars Qvotrup, Wendy Spinks and Reirna Suomi. After the conference we decided to write a book on the theme "Organization and the future after 2000". Many of the participants as well as others were invited to contribute a chapter of about ten pages. The resulting book of almost 400 pages therefore provides a comprehensive overview of ongoing research in the field of Telework. Birger Rapp and Paul Jackson edited the book. The intended audience for this book spans disciplinary and professional boundaries. It primarily relates to the disciplines of Business and Management Studies, Information Management, E-commerce and E-business. In a broader sense, it relates to Sociology, Media Studies and Economics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the state of the art in geodesy is presented with special emphasis on the challenges of the next decade. It is subdivided into six parts. The first five parts discuss the challenges of providing a stable global reference at the parts per billion level by space methods, the impact of recently approved dedicated satellite missions on the determination of a high resolution global gravity field and its refinements by airborne gravity, advances in geodynamics and their impact on the monitoring of seismic hazards and earthquake prediction, the increasing use of GPS and INS in kinematic mode for mapping the Earth's surface and monitoring the behaviour of large man-made structures, and the related advances in mathematical theory and numerical techniques. The last part is dedicated to the discussion of a new structure for IAG to meet these challenges.
