Book Sowing Seeds from the Gospels

Download or read book Sowing Seeds from the Gospels written by James L. Menapace and published by Author House. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 1982, and Jerry Andrews is a man who never did play it by the book. This was the case when he decided to unbuckle the straps of stability to pursue a dream. The dream, that of teaching college history was achieved, but it didn't come without the blues. His marriage dissolved, his best friend died, and then just when he smelled the scent of tenure, he was terminated. The termination leaves him broken, whereupon he retreats into the tunnel of internalized solitude. Thus begins the slow journey to redefine his life, his place in the world. He breaks the solitude to take his personal journey on the road from Illinois to New York. Follow him as he works in a restaurant, tips his elbow in bars, and unwittingly gets deeper into the heart of America, tasting tidbits of current events, politics, art, environment, landscape, and regional cuisine along the way. Through it all, and commingling within his journey is a quilted story of America, with the concept of "we the people," as the center pole. He learns to listen more closely to everyday stories from a passing variety of characters. They float by, some stopping- their voices filtering in and out, becoming stimuli that intersects throughout the book. For this journey, his constant companion is his lost profession of history. His historical love didn't end with his termination. It takes on other forms, as images, dreams, and visions. Yes, that's right, dreams and visions. Jerry Andrews, a man who never did play it by the book, is someone who sees and touches the world a little differently than most people. For example, the memory of a mystical Zuni bracelet becomes the setting sun in the western sky, and transports him to a place of remembered warmth. A place where he dances with migrating sandhill cranes, and ponders- why is a lonesome coyote showing herself and singing to him, a predator? This isn't everyday daydreaming; it's real. It's real because to Jerry Andrews, it actually happened! His companion, history walking, isn't textbook neat; it's unrestrained and full of the blues. It's against forgetting, and is transmitted via historical inserts that flow as tributaries through the river of the book. The history is varied, from coal mining to farming to the Delta Blues; from Native American to Hispanic history; from Vietnam to Guatemala to Ulysses S. Grant to John Dillenger. These multifaceted inclusions weave a fabric that is America, and transcend the borderlines of time and place. His journey to mend his broken spirit is an honest gathering of spiritual knowledge that acknowledges what Black Elk said, a true journey never ends.

For five-year-old Greg, it was the memory of his ma walking back to the house after confronting his stepdad with a splintered, bloodied baseball bat in her hand. Greg Stier was raised in a family of bodybuilding, tobacco-chewing, fist-fighting thugs. He never knew his biological father because his mom had met his dad at a party; she got pregnant, and he left town. Though his mom almost aborted him, in a last-minute twist, Greg’s life was spared for so much more. Unlikely Fighter is the incredible story of how God showed up in Greg’s life—and how he can show up in yours as well. This is a memoir of violence and mayhem—and how God can transform everything.

Book excerpt: This groundbreaking walk through Scripture by former physician and carpenter Dr. Matthew Sleeth makes the convincing case that trees reveal more about God and faith than you ever imagined. “Christians looking to reconnect to the natural world will relish Sleeth’s passionate call to Christian stewardship of the Earth.”—Publishers Weekly Fifteen years ago, Matthew Sleeth believed that science and logic held the answers to everything. But when tragedy struck, he opened the Bible for the first time and was surprised to find that God chose to tell the gospel story through a trail of trees. There’s a tree on the first page of Genesis, in the first psalm, on the first page of the New Testament, and on the last page of Revelation. The Bible’s wisdom is referred to as a tree of life. Every major biblical character and every major theological event has a tree marking the spot. A tree was the only thing that could kill Jesus—and the only thing Jesus ever harmed. Reforesting Faith is the rare book that builds bridges by connecting those who love the Creator with creation and those who love creation with the Creator. Join Dr. Sleeth as he explores the wonders of life, death, and rebirth through the trail of trees in Scripture. Once you discover the hidden language of trees, your walk through the woods—and through Scripture—will never be the same.

  • Pages : 169 pages

Download or read book The Kingdom of God in You written by Bill Winston and published by Destiny Image Publishers. This book was released on 2010-05-04 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nationally known pastor, Bill Winston brings this powerful message of God's provision, healing, and more that is already resident in the believer and available to those who will seek God's direction. If the Kingdom of God is in us, why aren't we living lives of greatness in our world? Bill Winston recognizes that there are two kingdoms at work in this world, and tragically, even within the church, the majority of people are still living under the destructive lies and patterns of Satan's rule. They don't have the power and provisions of God - wisdom, understanding, peace, joy, health, abundant material provision, life-changing ministry, and so much more - because they simply have not recognized the kingdom in them. The promises of God rarely come from some outside sovereign work of God, but from the kingdom already inside. The pastor of one of America's fastest growing churches, Winston helps believers to start walking their faith out in miraculous ways. Why? We have a power within us that is supernatural and flies in the face of the world's arrogant - but ultimately inadequate - self-reliance on human understanding and effort. With the faith of a child, even as small as a mustard seed, we unleash God's provision and power in our lives not by focusing on what we want, but by asking what the King of the Kingdom, God Almighty, wants us to accomplish. We quickly discover that our "grand dreams" and aspirations are miniscule in light of the greatness He has in store for us to do. This book is not for Christians who are complacent and desire the status quo. This is a soul-changing book that will turn the timid into the bold, and result in miracles that will build God's Kingdom right here and right now.

Book Planting Seeds for Jesus

Download or read book Planting Seeds for Jesus written by Timothy Wright and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was my hope when writing this book to also plant seeds of faith in our children's hearts. I have nineteen grandkids, and I pray every day that they will find the Lord at a young age, as the world is trying so hard to pull them away. I wanted to write a book that would remind them that Jesus tells them to come to him. If God knows those who are his before they are born, it makes sense that the sooner our children learn about Jesus, the better. Planting the Seeds for Jesus is about a little girl's love for Jesus and how excited she gets when Jesus uses her to share her faith with her friends. In this story, God is using her love for gardening to teach her lessons about him, as she will have to trust him for rain and thank him when he sends it. This is a book about not just how God made the world but how God can talk with her as she reads her Bible and learns to walk with him. It will not only touch our children's hearts but also touch our hearts as we remember God loves it when we come to him like children. You could find yourself reading Planting the Seeds for Jesus to remember how God wants us to love him with a childlike faith.
