Of these there are 265 species, many of them most perfect specimens. In East Bushnell Park, in the triangle near Trumbull Street Bridge is the scion of the Charter Oak, transplanted in 1867 when twenty (20) years old. Other distinguished trees in Bushnell Park are the Bliss. \vard and Parker Elms. In the center of the East side is the Aquatic Garden, or Pond, its banks fringed with water plants and its surface covered with pond and lotus lilies in their season. W'inter transforms the rock fountain in its center into an iceberg. Nearby is Bartlett's statue of Dr. Horace \vells. The discoverer of anaesthesia. In \v est Bushnell Park is the Coming Fountain, presented to the city by Mr. John J. Coming of Hartford and round about it floral displays are made. Here is also a bronze statue of General Putnam by J. Q. A. \vard. The lawns of Bushnell Park are unsurpassed. It was named February I4, 1876, in honor of its originator. Its location in the center of the City, with its Memorial and Capitol in full view, make it invaluable to Hartford's Park System and as an asset of the City it is.
