Book The Carbonate Geochemistry and Sedimentology of the Keys of Florida Bay Florida

Download or read book The Carbonate Geochemistry and Sedimentology of the Keys of Florida Bay Florida written by James B. Fleece and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The texture and mineralogy of the sediments comprising the ores from Florida Bay indicate that the over-all depositional environment in the area studied has remained fairly constant for the past 4000 years. There is some evidence which suggests that the material at the base of each core was deposited at approximately the same time and under very similar conditions. The data in icate that in less than 4000 years several significant geochemical diagenetic alterations have occurred in the carbonate sediments. There is a significant loss of high-magnesium calcite at the base of all the cores. The statistical tests for correlations show that there are a great number of weak interdependences between the ten sediment properties studied. This indicates the extremely complex nature of the process of carbonate sedimentation. (Author).

Book Carbonate Depositional Environments

Download or read book Carbonate Depositional Environments written by Peter A. Scholle and published by AAPG. This book was released on 1983 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the book you need to improve your interpretations of carbonates. Using a systematic treatment of the entire subject of carbonate depositional environments, this unique book is specifically designed for use by the non-specialist -- the petroleum geologist or field geologist -- who uses carbonate depositional environments in facies reconstructions and environmental intepretations. This classic work, covering settings from non-marine to deep water, focuses on the recognition of depositional environments with extenive use of color diagrams and photographs of sedimentary structures and facies assemblages. Although the ultimate purpose of this text is to improve exploration for oil, gas, and mineral deposits, it also includes environments not normally considered to be particularly prospective for oil and gas in an attempt to provide as complete a framework as possible for recognition of environments. Suitable for use as a textbook, this book is also an invaluable reference fo the specialist or advanced graduate student. It provides perspective on large-scale influences on carbonate depositional envionments such as tectonic patterns, fluctuations of sea level, variations of climate, and evolutionary patterns of organisms. --

Book Carbonate Depositional Systems Assessing Dimensions and Controlling Parameters

Download or read book Carbonate Depositional Systems Assessing Dimensions and Controlling Parameters written by Hildegard Westphal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-08-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbonate sediments are of increasing relevance for archives of past environmental conditions and for economical reasons in areas of geothermal energy and hydrocarbon reservoirs. Complex interaction of physical and chemical parameters with biological parameters determines the architecture and composition of carbonate sedimentary bodies. This book closes some of the still existing gaps in our understanding of the influence and interplay of physical, chemical, and biological parameters with carbonate sedimentation. An understanding of this interaction is not only required for reliable prediction of reservoir quality but also for a robust interpretation of environmental conditions in the past and the present. It is written by geologists for geologists in order to provide an easily accessible overview of the large amount of relevant information provided by the neighbouring sciences. The approach of the book is to document the modern depositional environments of three classical areas of carbonate deposition, each characteristic for a specific sedimentological setting (isolated platform, attached shelf, ramp) in order to assess both the range of physical, biological and chemical parameters and their sedimentary response. This book presents a comprehensive compilation based on data from published work and unpublished theses, and the integration of these data in order to extract previously undiscovered relationships between the discussed parameters and carbonate deposition.

Book Perspectives in Carbonate Geology

Download or read book Perspectives in Carbonate Geology written by Peter K. Swart and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This special publication Perspectives in Carbonate Geologyis a collection of papers most of which were presented at asymposium to honor the 80th birthday of Bob Ginsburg at the meetingof Geological Society of America in Salt Lake City in 2005. Themajority of the papers in this publication are connected with thestudy of modern carbonate sediments. Bob Ginsburg pioneered theconcept of comparative sedimentology - that is using the modern tocompare to and relate to and understand the ancient. These studiesare concerned with Bob's areas of passion: coral reefs andsea-level; submarine cementation and formation of beach rock;surface sediments on Great Bahama Bank and other platforms; originof ooids; coastal sediments; formation of stromatolites; impact ofstorms on sediments; and the formation of dolomite. The remainderof the papers apply the study of modern environments andsedimentary processes to ancient sediments.
