Book excerpt: This book contains: 400 French expressions with meaning and examples Language has always an interesting way to describe a feeling, a situation, a place. The body idioms are usually quite logical to understand. They refer to the part of the body we use in the situation we want to describe. For example “langue de vipère” refers to the way some people talk (gossip). However some expression are not that clear. For example “se faire de la bile”, is related to internal organs (liver). According to old western medicine and traditional chinese medicine, each vital organ is linked to an emotion. Nowadays, the relation seem far although it might be justified to some point. Then, all idioms are born in different times. Some old idioms are still used, as other die. Because I wanted this list to be practical and useful for everyday spoken French, I selected the ones that I hear more often and I dropped the ones that are too formal or not used anymore. It means that when you will use them you will not sound like a book!

Book Formal To Slang 3 Levels of Fluency

Download or read book Formal To Slang 3 Levels of Fluency written by Jean K. MATHIEU and published by It's French Juice. This book was released on 2023-04-01 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Your French is too academic and lacks naturalness? When you listen to native French speakers you have big problems understanding them? You struggle to understand films and series without subtitles? All native French speakers switch between 3 levels of language on a daily basis, automatically. The more you master the language, the more you are able to use these 3 levels of language adaptively, that is, to choose the level of language correctly. Basic words are very important but saying bicyclette instead of vélo simply doesn’t sound natural. If your language is too formal, you will appear pretentious and you will not always be understood. On the contrary, if your language is too informal, you will give the impression of lacking education or you will disrespect your interlocutor! That’s why I decided to gather the most common slang words that can be used in daily spoken French. Moreover you will be able to compare with the neutral and formal equivalent. I’m sure this will help you to save a lot of awkwardness and be more confident using French! What you will find is this book: 300 sentences comparing different levels of speech 150 slang words 100 audios mp3 100 exercices sentences

Book Sound French with 170 Nature Expressions and Idioms

Download or read book Sound French with 170 Nature Expressions and Idioms written by Jean K. MATHIEU and published by It's French Juice. This book was released on with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 170 French expressions with nature + meaning and examples A big part of France is covered with nature, and many expressions are inspired by nature. We can say that most of nature idioms are about the elements (feu, vent, eau, terre) but also related to agriculture (À tout bout de champ, en faire tout un foin). Nature idioms include expressions about weather, but also about flowers, wood, grass, etc. Some expressions also come from the influence of the sea and mountain (faire des vagues, en faire une montagne). These idioms are used on a daily basis by French natives, and sometimes they are the reason foreigners don’t catch the meaning of a sentence,—Why is this guy suddenly talking about a bambou?—thus they are also the tool that you can use to sound more French. Using expressions makes your speech more interesting, but poetic and sometimes more fun and catchy! I sorted the most relevant, to give the idioms that you might hear the most in France. You will find that some of them can be used in the medias and newspapers, but most of them are used in daily spoken French ! Try to use them, vous allez faire un tabac !

Book Sound French with 330 Animal Expressions and Idioms

Download or read book Sound French with 330 Animal Expressions and Idioms written by Jean K. MATHIEU and published by It's French Juice. This book was released on with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 330 French expressions about animals + meaning and example The French language is full of idioms and our daily life is full of animals. No wonder we have so many idioms about animals in French ! Animals are part of the daily life of French people and of course you will find a lot about pets (dogs, cats,…) but also about Animals that we traditionally raise and feed in French agriculture like cows, chicken, sheep, pigs. We also have strong and scary animals that appears in fairy tales like wolves, bears, and also birds like eagle. These animals all have their own characteristics and they can sometimes apply to someone’s attitude, character or physical appearance. In my opinion, animal idioms are the most fun to use. They can often bring a humorous part in the conversation, and the image is strong and easy to remember. Although there are a lot of French proverbs with animals (hundreds of them), this book is about idioms that we can adapt to the context. However I chose to include some proverbs that are still good to know, like Les chiens ne font pas des chats and Qui vole un œuf, vole un bœuf. I sorted the most relevant, to give the idioms that you might hear the most in France. You will find that some of them can be used in the medias and newspapers, but most of them are used in daily spoken French ! Have fun !
