Book excerpt: 'Brian Draper is Britain's foremost popular spiritual thinker; he has no equals in linking the inner with the political and personal outer. This is a remarkably practical exploration of elusive yet core elements of our existence.' - Oliver James The beauty of mindfulness is that it's incredibly simple both to 'get' and to practise. And the results - increasingly backed by neuro-scientific evidence - are priceless: calmness and reduced stress, more creativity, greater awareness, compassion. . . And yet there's a danger that mindfulness can be used in a purely consumerist and self-serving way to help people to become better adapted cogs in a still-toxic model of work and life. Brian Draper challenges us to live not just mindfully but soulfully. Not merely to be less stressed, but to flourish, dynamically and creatively - to be present - through living intentionally and compassionately.

Long description: The time has come for a new GPS in education. The goal is no longer to teach a good class, to convey information or even to have the students enjoy the learning. Soulful education is about enabling another—child, adolescent, adult—to discover how to become his or her best self through learning. In this bold revisioning of effective education, renowned educator Rabbi Aryeh Ben David recalibrates the focus of teaching from the acquisition of knowledge to the transformation of the soul. He presents six steps to help educators of all kinds teach to the heart, engage students in knowledge gathering without preaching or controlling, and enable students to authentically and personally integrate Jewish wisdom into their lives. He offers guidance for how teachers can share their own vulnerabilities and yearnings to become a better force of harmony to help students gain new clarity on their own infinite potential for positive change. This is the essential guidebook for everyone from educators and rabbis to parents and grandparents—anyone working in formal or informal education, whether for children, teens, emerging adults, adults or seniors.

Book The Promise of Wholeness

Download or read book The Promise of Wholeness written by Eric Ehrke and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-02-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henosis is the Greek word for oneness/unity. Since time immemorial this universal concept has been championed within traditional wisdom, ancient philosophy and theology. The psychoanalyst, Carl Jung referred our shared human experience with the phrase “collective unconscious,” while physicists use the term “quantum entanglement” to describe how every particle is inherently connected to the whole. The missing links between the wisdom of ancient philosophy and the startling insights within modern psychology to transform suffering, transcend circumstances, and increase our capacity for love are explored in The Promise of Wholeness. Most philosophical studies of ancient wisdom lack practical applications, and many popular psychology books simply skim the surface of the human experience. Licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist Eric Ehrke offers a new foundation for profound living based on classical teachings and enriched by modern scientific/psychological breakthroughs. The principles and values it takes to be happy and whole endure, but gentle makeovers are needed to modernize the message. Clinical examples from Eric Ehrke’s forty years of psychotherapy practice and personal stories from courageous individuals are included throughout the book. Emphasizing innovative teachings, and new critical exercises for infantile, childish, and adolescent stress responses, Ehrke offers powerful meditations and invaluable tools for bringing these concepts and strategies into everyday life. Here, eternal wisdom, sound psychological principles, and practical solutions come together in this handbook of consciousness; a truly helpful guide for anyone seeking lasting peace and well-being.

Download or read book Soulful Simplicity written by Courtney Carver and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2017-12-26 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Courtney Carver shows us the power of simplicity to improve our health, build more meaningful relationships, and relieve stress in our professional and personal lives. We are often on a quest for more—we give in to pressure every day to work more, own more, and do more. For Carver, this constant striving had to come to a stop when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Stress was like gasoline on the fire of symptoms, and it became clear that she needed to root out the physical and psychological clutter that were the source of her debt and discontent. In this book, she shows us how to pursue practical minimalism so we can create more with less—more space, more time, and even more love. Carver invites us to look at the big picture, discover what's most important to us, and reclaim lightness and ease by getting rid of all the excess things.

Book Reinventing Masculinity

Download or read book Reinventing Masculinity written by Edward M. Adams and published by Berrett-Koehler Publishers. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “We need this book! . . . Adams and Frauenheim show that we need to develop a more expansive conception of what it means to be a man.” —Cary Cherniss, PhD, coauthor of Leading with Feeling In a recent FiveThirtyEight poll, sixty percent of men surveyed said society puts pressure on men to behave in a way that is unhealthy or bad. Men account for eighty percent of suicides in the United States, and three in ten American men have suffered from depression. Ed Adams and Ed Frauenheim say a big part of the problem is a model of masculinity that’s become outmoded and even dangerous, to both men and women. The conventional notion of what it means to be a man—what Adams and Frauenheim call “Confined Masculinity” —traps men in an emotional straitjacket; steers them toward selfishness, misogyny, and violence; and severely limits their possibilities. As an antidote, they propose a new paradigm: Liberating Masculinity. It builds on traditional masculine roles like the protector and provider, expanding men’s options to include caring, collaboration, emotional expressivity, an inclusive spirit, and environmental stewardship. Through hopeful stories of men who have freed themselves from the strictures of Confined Masculinity, interviews with both leaders and everyday men, and practical exercises, this book shows the power of a masculinity defined by what the authors call the five C’s: curiosity, courage, compassion, connection, and commitment. Men will discover a way of being that fosters healthy, harmonious relationships at home, at work, and in the world. “A wonderful book for thinking about how to release ourselves from crippling processes.” —Paul Gilbert, PhD, author of The Compassionate Mind

Download or read book 4th body written by VASUDEV and published by Tektime. This book was released on 2023-06-08 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 4th Body is not some spooky subject. It’s a philosophical take emphasizing the fourth body that almost everyone neglects and under-utilizes. It’s like you have a million-dollar bank account in some unknown place. This book has answers to many essential life questions that people may have. This book will help tune you to experience the divine vibration that is both fulfilling and healing. it can potentially trigger the transcendental space within the reader, creating meditativeness that heals the mind and opens up the SPACE of enlightenment. Each sentence, when understood as how the author intended it, has the potential to blow away one's limiting-self. There are four dimensions of our presence, and we can sense them at any time (Physical/Energy/thinking/Awareness). Recognizing these bodies increases self-awareness and breaks the limitation of us functioning as just the body, emotion and mind, which are individualized images of the Self. Our true power is kept in our 4th body. I humbly and gracefully say that this book, in my opinion, is optimistic and providential. It is experiential and offers more to the right souls who read the ideas correctly and with the right mindset. The content of this book came out of a flow during moments of deep connection, as if it were meant for a particular group of people. Often the author was surprised by the clarity that flowed into these moments and, at times, sat in shock because the insights were directly opposite to his beliefs and ways of doing things. He is fully convinced that the material belongs to the Universe and was intuited to him for his evolution and that of others. Often, he was inspired by his materials as if they were not his. The author experienced many awakening moments while channelling the wisdom shared in this book. A state of vibration known as the “Divine vibration” is something our soul searches for naturally. It’s fulfilling and is placed at the highest rank as a highly positive experience by our core self. Divine Vibration is everywhere. All we need to do to experience it is to tune in to that vibration. We have a powerful tuning machine called the mind. This mind can tune in to any vibration, from revenge to love, grief to bliss, poverty to prosperity, and demonic to divine. We must be skilled enough to steer it in the right direction. This book will help tune you to experience the divine vibration that is both fulfilling and healing. I could feel the transmission of divine energy through the words and ideas presented here. If you are reading this book and feeling the auspiciousness, then it’s meant for you. Please be in the right frame of mind to receive it. How & Why This book was born from the author’s direct experiences and deep contemplations that led to deep insights during special moments in his life. It also has a compilation of materials shared in a monthly “Mind Purification” Study Circle that the author has conducted since 2010. The idea flow originated from moments of profound clarity that surfaced with high conviction and authenticity. The author was long involved in philosophy and self-knowledge, which in a way, ordained him to guide others on matters of the mind & self. Many seek guidance from him on life issues and mind matters, and he has helped provide greater clarity, wisdom and the proper counsel that elevated them. The author believes that an element called Life Intelligence is unfolding itself to its parts (the readers) through its terminal (author) to know itself, as it is timely. What is it about? This book can potentially trigger the transcendental space within the reader, creating meditativeness that heals the mind and opens up the SPACE of enlightenment. (Enlightenment here means a state of clarity or the dispelling of illusion.) This book is not about TRUTH. Words are not only inadequate to talk about TRUTH, but it is simply impossible. Book The Grey Album

Book excerpt: *Finalist for the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism* *A Publishers Weekly Top 10 Literary Criticism and Essays Pick for Spring 2012* The Grey Album, the first work of prose by the brilliant poet Kevin Young, winner of the Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize Taking its title from Danger Mouse's pioneering mashup of Jay-Z's The Black Album and the Beatles' The White Album, Kevin Young's encyclopedic book combines essay, cultural criticism, and lyrical choruses to illustrate the African American tradition of lying—storytelling, telling tales, fibbing, improvising, "jazzing." What emerges is a persuasive argument for the many ways that African American culture is American culture, and for the centrality of art—and artfulness—to our daily life. Moving from gospel to soul, funk to freestyle, Young sifts through the shadows, the bootleg, the remix, the grey areas of our history, literature, and music.

Book The Flight into The Unconscious

Download or read book The Flight into The Unconscious written by Wolfgang Giegerich and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-03-06 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychological analysis usually sets its sights upon the patient or upon cultural phenomena such as myths, literature, or works of art. The essays in this volume, by contrast, have another addressee, another subject matter: psychology itself. Deeply informed by Jung’s insight regarding the discipline’s lack of an objective vantage point outside and beyond the psyche, their Jungian author again and again turns Jung’s contribution to psychology around upon itself in the spirit of an immanent critique. Cutting to the quick, the question is put: in its constitution as psychology is Jungian psychology up to the level of what its insight into psychology’s lack of an Archimedean point would require? Are the interpretations it gives of its various subject matters—alchemy, religion, the unconscious and the rest-matched by its interpretation of itself? Has its meeting itself in them had consequences for itself, consequences in terms of the fathoming of its own truth? Or clinging to the standpoint of empirical observer, did it ultimately demur with regards to the question of their truth and its own - this despite Jung’s having characterized his work as an opus divinum? Topics include Jung’s psychology project as a response to the condition of the world, the "smuggling" inherent in the logic of "the unconscious," the closure and setting free dialectic of alchemy and psychology, the blindness to logical form problematic, the faultiness of the opposition "Individual" and "Collective", Jung’s communion fiasco, his thinking the thought of not-thinking, the veracity of his Red Book, the disenchantment complex, and, as indicated in the title of this volume, Jung’s psychology project as a counter-speculative "flight into the unconscious."

Book The Handbook of Communication in Cross cultural Perspective

Download or read book The Handbook of Communication in Cross cultural Perspective written by Donal Carbaugh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-08-19 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook brings together 26 ethnographic research reports from around the world about communication. The studies explore 13 languages from 17 countries across 6 continents. Together, the studies examine, through cultural analyses, communication practices in cross-cultural perspective. In doing so, and as a global community of scholars, the studies explore the diversity in ways communication is understood around the world, examine specific cultural traditions in the study of communication, and thus inform readers about the range of ways communication is understood around the world. Some of the communication practices explored include complaining, hate speech, irreverence, respect, and uses of the mobile phone. The focus of the handbook, however, is dual in that it brings into view both communication as an academic discipline and its use to unveil culturally situated practices. By attending to communication in these ways, as a discipline and a specific practice, the handbook is focused on, and will be an authoritative resource for understanding communication in cross-cultural perspective. Designed at the nexus of various intellectual traditions such as the ethnography of communication, linguistic ethnography, and cultural approaches to discourse, the handbook employs, then, a general approach which, when used, understands communication in its particular cultural scenes and communities.

It may signal a time of transition, a shift in our identity. The Uses of Sadness helps us understand the nuances of sadness, and how it differs from depression. Sadness helps us access a deeper part of ourselves. As we then become a little bigger, wiser and more compassionate than we were, our lives are enriched and we in turn enrich the lives of others.
