Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire & Water - a combination of two elements which would normally cancel the other out. Not in Ebony & Aiden's case, instead it created steam. A lot of steam. And that steam was fuelled from within, the connection of their souls awakening the elements within them. Ebony Stevens grew up in a small town, she had a wonderful childhood and two very amazing friends. Despite this, she felt like there was just something missing from her life. She had never been in love, and her friends gushing over guys had never really connected with her. Aiden Steele had a hard upbringing. He'd bounced through the foster system after his parents had passed away, never really feeling the love of family but he had found comfort and a place with his friends. The moment his gold flecked eyes met her aqua flecked ones, Ebony melted into a puddle. Their connection was instant, it was real, it was heart stopping.. it was epic. And once their bodies connected, there was no going back. This is their story.

Book excerpt: The five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water – are fundamental to Chinese medicine and metaphysics, but it can be difficult to get beyond the purely intellectual level of understanding. This rich book gets to the heart of five element theory, and offers passionate reflections on the spirit of each element, and the practice of five element acupuncture. The author provides accessible accounts of each element, explaining what it looks like, how it presents in an individual's characteristics, how it can become unbalanced and how treatment might be approached to restore balance. With profiles of various well-known figures, including David Beckham and Elvis Presley, the author explores what it means to live in harmony as a unique being and how the five elements help shape and cultivate our body and soul. The book explains how Chinese physicians understand and diagnose their patients and offers invaluable insights into how to practise five element acupuncture effectively. A valuable and thoughtful addition to any library, this book will be of particular interest to acupuncturists, practitioners and students of complementary medicine as well as anyone contemplating Chinese medicine as a treatment option or interested more generally in human psychology.

Book God Soul and the Meaning of Life

Download or read book God Soul and the Meaning of Life written by Thaddeus Metz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Element critically explores the potential relevance of God or a soul for life's meaning as discussed in recent Anglo-American philosophical literature. There have been four broad views: God or a soul is necessary for meaning in our lives; neither is necessary for it; one or both would greatly enhance the meaning in our lives; one or both would substantially detract from it. This Element familiarizes readers with all four positions, paying particular attention to the latter two, and also presents prima facie objections to them, points out gaps in research agendas and suggests argumentative strategies that merit development.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the soul have parts? What kind of parts? And how do all the parts make together a whole? Many ancient, medieval and early modern philosophers discussed these questions, thus providing a mereological analysis of the soul. Their starting point was a simple observation: we tend to describe the soul of human beings by referring to different types of activities (perceiving, imagining, thinking, etc.). Each type of activity seems to be produced by a special part of the soul. But how can a simple, undivided soul have parts? Classical thinkers gave radically different answers to this question. While some claimed that there are indeed parts, thus assigning an internal complexity to the soul, others emphasized that there can only be a plurality of functions that should not be conflated with a plurality of parts. The eleven chapters reconstruct and critically examine these answers. They make clear that the metaphysical structure of the soul was a crucial issue for ancient, medieval and early modern philosophers.

Book Soul Community and Social Change

Download or read book Soul Community and Social Change written by Peter Westoby and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when inequalities are growing globally, when the pace of socio-economic transitions is rapid, and when traditional ties of community are under threat of dissolving, 'soul' offers a new way of thinking imaginatively about how people might respond both individually and collectively in social change work. In exploring ideas such as soul, soulful, 'soul of the world' and soul-force, Peter Westoby invites readers to disrupt their taken-for-granted assumptions about community practice and to foreground ethics, quality, being and the aesthetic. Drawing on work of people such as James Hillman, Thomas Moore and 'Bifo' Beradi, he insists on the need to bring more depth into practice, eschewing contemporary trends of soulless analysis, measuring, and technique. Written in dialogue with eight practitioner-scholars from around the world, the book suggests a fresh terrain for community work and social change theorising. Illustrated by images of Australian cartoonist-prophet Michael Leunig, the book also promises to unlock new imaginative spaces for dreaming. A soul perspective will resonate with people searching for both a robust socio-political response to the world and an imaginative, poetic and mindful centring of self, 'other' and the planet to their practice.

Book The Rise and Fall of Soul and Self

Download or read book The Rise and Fall of Soul and Self written by Raymond Martin and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raymond Martin and John Barresi trace the development of Western ideas about personal identity and reveal the larger intellectual trends, controversies, and ideas that have revolutionized the way we think about ourselves. They begin with ancient Greece, where the ideas of Plato, Aristotle, and the materialistic atomists laid the groundwork for future theories. They then discuss the ideas of the church fathers and medieval and Renaissance philosophers, including St. Paul, Origen, Augustine, Aquinas, and Montaigne. In their coverage of the emergence of a new mechanistic conception of nature in the seventeenth century, Martin and Barresi note a shift away from religious and purely philosophical notions of self and personal identity to more scientific and social conceptions, a trend that has continued to the present day. They explore modern philosophy and psychology, including the origins of different traditions within each discipline, and explain the theoretical relevance of both feminism and gender and ethnic studies and also the ways that Derrida and other recent thinkers have challenged the very idea that a unified self or personal identity even exists.

Book The Language of the Consciousness Soul

Download or read book The Language of the Consciousness Soul written by Carl Unger and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 491 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "We're trying to get to the castle of the Wise Enchanter,' Michael said. 'It's very difficult." "But you have found your way to the Enchanted Islands," said the hermit. "That is the first step, and that is good. I can't tell you which way to go, since I have no idea. You see, very few people have ever reached the castle itself, and no one has been there since I have been here, but I can tell you one thing...if you keep going straight through the forest, it will end. At the end, there are two paths. One path is the Right Way. The other is the Left Way. One of these paths is the true way, and will take you where you need to go; but you can only know which is which once you have gone along the way of your choice for some time." "What if the Right way is the wrong way, or the Left way is the right way?" Lauren asked. "It sounds confusing." "Yes, yes, of course it does. But once you've done it, everything will be perfectly clear." Words are disappearing from the world. Something is lurking in the deepest waters, devouring all the words that are no longer used. No one has noticed, but the world is slowly growing darker. For many years no children have come to the Enchanted Islands in search of Wisdom, and the Wise Enchanter is growing old. Four children from the corners of the earth have been sent on a quest to rediscover each letter, unlock the treasure of language, and thereby grow wise. Time is running out; if the children do not reach the castle of the Wise Enchanter in time, Wisdom and light may vanish from the world altogether.

Book Treatise On the Soul and the Resurrection

Download or read book Treatise On the Soul and the Resurrection written by Gregory of Nyssa and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the Soul and the Resurrection is work by Gregory of Nyssa, written upon his brother Basil's death, about the immortal soul and the infinity of God. The work is written in form of Socratic dialogue between Gregory who plays the part of an interlocutor and his older sister, St. Macrina, who plays the part of Socrates. Gregory deals with two topics of considerable importance in Christian theology: the immortality of the soul and the physicality of the resurrection. He confronts many of the arguments made by those who deny the existence of the soul or resurrection and gives thorough answers to the questions about the soul and the resurrection.
