Book excerpt: A horrific act of violence captures the headlines. Yet, for those who bother to reflect on what little information which can be gleaned from a short article, a basic question often arises: "Why?" Behind the simplistic and abbreviated story offered by the media are multiple threads which, step-by-step led to the headline. In Odyssey of a Soul in Bondage, the author explores the events and decisions which led to one such incident. This narrative does not attempt to excuse or defend what is an indefensible crime, but is rather a personal search to answer how and why.

Book excerpt: You could be in captivity RIGHT NOW and not even know it!! Do you feel as if your happiness keeps getting sabotaged? Do you feel bound at times to the appetites of your flesh? I can relate to the internal struggle of sin that produces shame and guilt. You may try to cover up the struggle going on inside, but your soul continues to cry out. There could be a breach in your soul that has allowed the enemy an access point. There could be an active legal precedent potentially stopping you from accessing your greatness. Using a Hebraic Pauline biblical worldview, I explain how Y'shua and Paul both warned us of the natural principles that could bind us spiritually, financially, and emotionally. These are seen as archaic today, but they are the same principles used by the adversary. Soul Bondage shows us how to fight in the heavenlies using a legal model which is advanced tactical spiritual warfare. Through my 30+ years of ministry, I have felt the call by His spirit to reach the nations with the Gospel of Conversion and Deliverance. I have been blessed enough to be equipped in the following areas of studies: Divinity, Hebrew Roots, Ancient Hebrew word meanings, Messianic One and Two House, Christian History, Charismatic Theories, Mishnah law, and Black Hebrew Israelite One West doctrines. Soul bondage reveals the keys to loosen where you may be bound, whether it is emotionally, financially or spiritually. If you are ready to break the bondage attached to your soul and are tired of seeing the people you care for continue to suffer without any solution to offer them, then this is the book for you. Break cycles of lack and shame then offer others an opportunity to live in freedom as well.

Book Preaching Bondage

Download or read book Preaching Bondage written by Chris L. de Wet and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Preaching Bondage introduces and investigates the novel concept of doulology, the discourse of slavery, in the homilies of John Chrysostom, the late fourth-century priest and bishop. Chris L. de Wet examines the dynamics of enslavement in ChrysostomÕs theology, virtue ethics, and biblical interpretation and shows that human bondage as a metaphorical and theological construct had a profound effect on the lives of institutional slaves. The highly corporeal and gendered discourse associated with slavery was necessarily central in ChrysostomÕs discussions of the household, property, education, discipline, and sexuality. De Wet explores the impact of doulology in these contexts and disseminates the results in a new and highly anticipated language, bringing to light the more pervasive fissures between ancient Roman slaveholding and early Christianity. The corpus of ChrysostomÕs public addresses provides much of the literary evidence for slavery in the fourth century, and De WetÕs convincing analysis is a groundbreaking contribution to studies of the social world in late antiquity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of Human Bondage (1915) is a novel by W. Somerset Maugham. Inspired by his experiences as an orphan and young student, Maugham composed his masterpiece. Adapted several times for film, Of Human Bondage is a story of tragedy, perseverance, and the eternal search for happiness which drives us as much as it haunts our every move. Orphaned as a boy, Philip Carey is raised in an affectionless household by his aunt and uncle. Although his Aunt Louisa tries to make him feel welcome, William proves an uncaring, vindictive man. Left to fend for himself most days, Philip finds solace in the family’s substantial collection of books, which serve as an escape for the imaginative boy. Sent to study at a prestigious boarding school, Philip struggles to fit in with his peers, who abuse him for his intelligence and club foot. Despite his struggles, he perseveres in his studies and chooses his own path in life, moving to Heidelberg, Germany and denying his uncle’s wish that he attend Oxford. As he struggles to become a professional artist, Philip learns that one’s dreams are often unsubstantiated in the world of the living. Of Human Bondage is a tale of desire, disappointment, and romance by a master stylist with a keen sense of the complications inherent to human nature. With a beautifully designed cover and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of W. Somerset Maugham’s Of Human Bondage is a classic work of British literature reimagined for modern readers.

  • Author : Deirdre Cooper Owens
  • Publisher : University of Georgia Press

Download or read book Medical Bondage written by Deirdre Cooper Owens and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accomplishments of pioneering doctors such as John Peter Mettauer, James Marion Sims, and Nathan Bozeman are well documented. It is also no secret that these nineteenth-century gynecologists performed experimental caesarean sections, ovariotomies, and obstetric fistula repairs primarily on poor and powerless women. Medical Bondage breaks new ground by exploring how and why physicians denied these women their full humanity yet valued them as “medical superbodies” highly suited for medical experimentation. In Medical Bondage, Cooper Owens examines a wide range of scientific literature and less formal communications in which gynecologists created and disseminated medical fictions about their patients, such as their belief that black enslaved women could withstand pain better than white “ladies.” Even as they were advancing medicine, these doctors were legitimizing, for decades to come, groundless theories related to whiteness and blackness, men and women, and the inferiority of other races or nationalities. Medical Bondage moves between southern plantations and northern urban centers to reveal how nineteenth-century American ideas about race, health, and status influenced doctor-patient relationships in sites of healing like slave cabins, medical colleges, and hospitals. It also retells the story of black enslaved women and of Irish immigrant women from the perspective of these exploited groups and thus restores for us a picture of their lives.
