Book excerpt: 100 recipes for bold, gutsy, comforting dishes inspired by the flavors of Northern Italy, from the acclaimed Manhattan restaurant Sorella, co-owned and operated by rising star chef Emma Hearst, with her best friend (and honorary “sister”) Sarah Krathen running the front of the house. After meeting in culinary school, Emma Hearst and Sarah Krathen opened Sorella—Italian for “sister,” in a nod to the deep connection these friends feel for each other—on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Lauded for its distinctive blend of gutsy northern Italian fare, family-style spirit, and old-world glamour, their charming neighborhood spot has garnered legions of admirers who come for the ethereal homemade pastas, inspired cocktails, and easy conviviality. In this, their debut cookbook, Emma and Sarah share behind-the-scenes stories, their passion for food and hospitality, and the secrets to making many of their most popular menu offerings at home. The more than one hundred recipes encompass bold-flavored dishes and signature favorites, including their show-stopping Broccoli Fritto and decadent egg-topped Pâté de Fegato, along with clever cocktails and savvy wine pairings. Bolstered by stunning full-color photographs, visual vignettes, and unforgettable anecdotes that relate everything from the wisdom of Italian grandmothers and the mishaps of opening night to a starring role on Iron Chef, Sarah and Emma convey both their sparkling personalities and their dedication to balancing innovation and tradition. They also offer a truly unique glimpse into what it’s like for two young women to open and run a lively, welcoming, and wildly successful restaurant in New York City. Selected Recipes Include: • Arugula & prosciutto salad with pickled cherries • Marinated mussels & straciatella cheese • Tajarin with lamb ragu, black pepper ricotta, pistachios & mint • Cavatelli with porcini & pancetta ragu • Sorella gnocchi • Pan-seared mackerel with onion-pine nut puree & pickled vegetables • Marinated pork chop with wax beans, blistered cherry tomatoes & apple vinegar • Brussels sprouts with apples & bacon • Peach crostata with buttermilk gelato • Bombolini

Book Quantum Monte Carlo Approaches for Correlated Systems

Download or read book Quantum Monte Carlo Approaches for Correlated Systems written by Federico Becca and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-30 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several decades, computational approaches to studying strongly-interacting systems have become increasingly varied and sophisticated. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to state-of-the-art quantum Monte Carlo techniques relevant for applications in correlated systems. Providing a clear overview of variational wave functions, and featuring a detailed presentation of stochastic samplings including Markov chains and Langevin dynamics, which are developed into a discussion of Monte Carlo methods. The variational technique is described, from foundations to a detailed description of its algorithms. Further topics discussed include optimisation techniques, real-time dynamics and projection methods, including Green's function, reptation and auxiliary-field Monte Carlo, from basic definitions to advanced algorithms for efficient codes, and the book concludes with recent developments on the continuum space. Quantum Monte Carlo Approaches for Correlated Systems provides an extensive reference for students and researchers working in condensed matter theory or those interested in advanced numerical methods for electronic simulation.

Book Algebraic Renormalization

    Book Details:
  • Author : Olivier Piguet
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-09-11
  • ISBN : 3540491929
  • Pages : 142 pages

Download or read book Algebraic Renormalization written by Olivier Piguet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of this book originated from two series of lectures given by us at the Physics Department of the Catholic University of Petr6polis, in Brazil. Its aim is to present an introduction to the "algebraic" method in the perturbative renormalization of relativistic quantum field theory. Although this approach goes back to the pioneering works of Symanzik in the early 1970s and was systematized by Becchi, Rouet and Stora as early as 1972-1974, its full value has not yet been widely appreciated by the practitioners of quantum field theory. Becchi, Rouet and Stora have, however, shown it to be a powerful tool for proving the renormalizability of theories with (broken) symmetries and of gauge theories. We have thus found it pertinent to collect in a self-contained manner the available information on algebraic renormalization, which was previously scattered in many original papers and in a few older review articles. Although we have taken care to adapt the level of this book to that of a po- graduate (Ph. D. ) course, more advanced researchers will also certainly find it useful. The deeper knowledge of renormalization theory we hope readers will acquire should help them to face the difficult problems of quantum field theory. It should also be very helpful to the more phenomenology oriented readers who want to famili- ize themselves with the formalism of renormalization theory, a necessity in view of the sophisticated perturbative calculations currently being done, in particular in the standard model of particle interactions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great darkness. An evil trying to snuff out the light and take over a precious realm. That evil is not going to stop. But there are those who can make it stop. Warriors of Light can and they most certainly will. The uniqueness of our heroes in this tale is not so much their strength and courage, even though they have those in abundance. Oddly enough, it is how many times they fail. It is not so much about how they don't give up, it's more about how they are directed to move on.

Book Il Trittico Turandot and Puccini s Late Style

Download or read book Il Trittico Turandot and Puccini s Late Style written by Andrew Davis and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2010-09-09 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Giacomo Puccini is one of the most frequently performed and best loved of all operatic composers. In Il Trittico, Turandot, and Puccini's Late Style, Andrew Davis takes on the subject of Puccini's last two works to better understand how the composer creates meaning through the juxtaposition of the conventional and the unfamiliar -- situating Puccini in past operatic traditions and modern European musical theater. Davis asserts that hearing Puccini's late works within the context of la solita forma allows listeners to interpret the composer's expressive strategies. He examines Puccini's compositional language, with insightful analyses of melody, orchestration, harmony, voice-leading, and rhythm and meter.

Book The Ndrangheta and Sacra Corona Unita

Download or read book The Ndrangheta and Sacra Corona Unita written by Nicoletta Serenata and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-13 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers two lesser known but important members of the Italian Mafia: the ’Ndrangheta and the Sacra Corona Unita. Italian criminal organizations, in particular Mafia, are one of the most commonly researched organized crime groups, usually focusing on the Sicilian Mafia, Cosa Nostra, or the Neapolitan Mafia, Camorra. However, Italy has other two other Mafias, one in Apulia, Sacra Corona Unita, and the other in Calabria, ’Ndrangheta. Although an extensive literature is available on Cosa Nostra and Camorra, less is known about the other two organizations, particularly their operations in the United States. Territory is one of the most important elements in the Mafia because the criminal organization operates its signoria territoriale, controlling every illegal activity in its sphere of action. This territorial power goes beyond the Italian boundaries reaching the United States of America and other non-European countries, with the mere aim of developing their drug/weapon deals and money laundering businesses. Mafia, therefore, is not a uniquely Italian phenomenon as it might appear, but a worldwide phenomenon, affecting many societies and economies. This unique volume is its interest into a field as yet completely provides new information about the ’Ndrangheta and Sacra Corona Unita written by an interdisciplinary group of Italian scholars. It covers organizational, hierarchic, and operative aspects: that is, the role that they have in politics, in their own families, in business relations in Italy and abroad. It also highlights the particular role that Cosa Nostra and Camorra had in their development. This work will be of interest to criminology researchers studying organized crime, corruption, money laundering and trafficking, as well as researchers from related fields, such as political science, economics, and international relations.

Book The Life of Saul Bellow Volume 2

Download or read book The Life of Saul Bellow Volume 2 written by Zachary Leader and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second volume in the life of literary giant Saul Bellow, vividly capturing a personal life that was always tumultuous and career that never ceased being triumphant. Bellow, at forty-nine, is at the pinnacle of American letters--rich, famous, critically acclaimed. The expected trajectory is one of decline: volume 1, rise; volume 2, fall. Bellow never fell, producing in the latter half of his life some of his greatest fiction (Mr. Sammler's Planet, Humboldt's Gift), winning two more National Book Awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and the Nobel Prize. At eighty, he wrote his last story; at eighty-five, he wrote Ravelstein. In this volume, his life away from the desk, including his love life, is if anything more dramatic than in the first. In the public sphere, he is embroiled in controversy over foreign affairs, race, religion, education, social policy, the state of culture, the fate of the novel. In this stunning second volume, Zachary Leader shows that Bellow's heroic energy and will were present to the very end of his life. His immense achievement and its cost, to himself and others, continue to be worth the examination of this vivid work of literary scholarship.
