Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have been writing for many years, having started saving everything since I was a senior in high school. My favorite teacher suggested I start saving what I was writing, and well, that is what I did and have done. As a result, I have bits and pieces stuffed in many drawers in my home office. Some I read and reread; some just sit there covered with dust. No matter what, however, I never throw any of my writings away. I live in retirement with my husband. (Currently, we will soon be enjoying our fifty-sixth anniversary.) We live close to our children and grandchildren, have dear friends whom we love, and have a house we found more than forty years ago. In the past, I have been active in the League of Women Voters and as a hospice volunteer. I am listed in Whos Who in America (for those of you who want to know anything else about me).

Book Fat Pretty and Soon to be Old

Download or read book Fat Pretty and Soon to be Old written by Kimberly Dark and published by AK Press. This book was released on 2019-09-24 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Nothing is more brilliant and juicy to me than a woman stepping fully into her self—mind, body, and spirit, full throttle, without apology. Kimberly Dark has been illuminating the path for a long time. This book is a triumph. This book is a jailbreak from cultural inscriptions meant to keep us locked up, shut up, and conforming.” —Lidia Yuknavitch, author of The Chronology of Water and The Book of Joan Fat, Pretty, and Soon to be Old is a moving, funny, and startlingly frank collection of personal essays about what it means to look a certain way. Or rather, certain ways. Navigating Kimberly Dark’s experience of being fat since childhood—as well as queer, white-privileged, a gender-confirming “girl with a pretty face,” active then disabled, and inevitably aging—each piece blends storytelling and social analysis to deftly coax readers into a deeper understanding of how appearance privilege (and stigma) function in everyday life and how the architecture of this social world constrains us. At the same time, she provides a blueprint for how each of us can build a more just social world, one interaction at a time. Includes an afterword by Health at Every Size expert, Linda Bacon. Kimberly Dark is a writer, professor, and raconteur. She has written award-winning plays, and taught and performed for a wide range of audiences in various countries over the past two decades. She is the author of The Daddies, Love and Errors, and co-editor of the anthology Ways of Being in Teaching.

This book was released on 2014-03-31 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. That was why I never wanted it, but for my beloved father, who got sick, I was willing to do anything. I had seen the impossible decades ago, when I met a Filipino psychic surgeon. He sat me down and taught me how to do it. Maybe I had no choice in the matter. I wanted to become known as an artist and a writer, not a healer. I decided that the best way I can convey learning is by sharing with you this paranormal memoir, which includes lessons on how it is done." This book is part of Val Zubiri's Memoirs of an Artist Series. He hopes that people learn valuable profitable lessons from his books, and that collectors and financial companies and investment bankers will notice and collect his art.

Book All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers A Novel

Download or read book All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers A Novel written by Larry McMurtry and published by Liveright Publishing. This book was released on 2018-05-29 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A young writer hits the dusty Texas highway for the California coast in this “brilliant . . . funny and dangerously tender” (Time) tale of art and sacrifice. Hailed as one of “the best novels ever set in America’s fourth largest city” (Douglas Brinkley, New York Times Book Review), All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers is a powerful demonstration of Larry McMurtry’s “comic genius, his ability to render a sense of landscape, and interior intellection tension” (Jim Harrison, New York Times Book Review). Desperate to break from the “mundane happiness” of Houston, budding writer Danny Deck hops in his car, “El Chevy,” bound for the West Coast on a road trip filled with broken hearts and bleak realities of the artistic life. A cast of unforgettable characters joins the naïve troubadour’s pilgrimage to California and back to Texas, including a cruel, long-legged beauty; an appealing screenwriter; a randy college professor; and a genuine if painfully “normal” friend. Since the novel’s publication in 1972, Danny Deck has “been far more successful at getting loved by readers than he ever was at getting loved by the women in his life” (McMurtry), a testament to the author’s incomparable talent for capturing the essential tragicomedy of the human experience.

Yet accompanying every sorrow is a thread of hope. Our heavenly Father has assured us that in the end everything will be all right there will be no more crying or pain, no more death or mourning (see Revelation 21:4). In the meantime, though, His promises soothe our aching
