Book Franz Xaver Kroetz

    Book Details:
  • Author : Richard W. Blevins
  • Publisher : Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers
  • Release : 1983
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Franz Xaver Kroetz written by Richard W. Blevins and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 1983 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A marital argument. An unwanted pregnancy. A lost job. An illicit love affair. Such are the pivotal issues of Kroetz's plays. They are plays describing everyday people with many dreams, few words to express them, and little hope of achieving them. People caught helplessly in the tidepools and eddies of mainstream consumer society. Kroetz captures them with a language and characterization so convincing, so compelling, that within the space of a few seasons he has become one of West Germany's most popular and acclaimed playwrights. This work examines the author and his writings, allowing both to speak for themselves while simultaneously following the interconnecting threads of philosophy, theme, and style which make up the fabric of Kroetz's proletarian dramaturgy.

  • Author : Franz Alexander
  • Publisher : Transaction Publishers
  • Release : 1995-01-01
  • ISBN : 9781412832281
  • Pages : 652 pages

Download or read book Psychoanalytic Pioneers written by Franz Alexander and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychoanalytic Pioneers is a comprehensive history of psychoanalysis as seen through the lives and the works of its most eminent teachers, thinkers, and clinicians. It is also a definitive portrait of the atmosphere in which psychoanalytic creativity has emerged and flourished. Going beyond mere biographical description, the contributors elucidate the contributions of various psychoanalysts to the evolution of psychoanalytic thought, and evaluate their roles in the development of psychoanalysis as a science, as a method of investigation, as a treatment technique, and as an organization. The editors have assembled profiles of Karl Abraham, Sandor Ferenczi, Otto Rank, Carl Jung, Alfred Adler, Ernest Jones, Paul Federn, Oskar Pfister, Harms Sachs, A.A. Brill, Sandor Rado, Theodor Reik, Melanie Klein, Otto Fenichel, Karen Horney, Heinz Hartmann, Ernst Kris, and twenty-four other pioneers, whose influence on psychoanalysis reverberates to this day. In a new introduction, Eisenstein maintains that while man and his unconscious have not changed much since Freud's time, today psychoanalysis is full of many different clinical and theoretical viewpoints. Among the ideas being debated are object theory, drive theory, the oedipal concept, intersubjectivity, and self-psychology. Eisenstein also discusses the contributions of psychohistory, a recent and significant development in psychoanalysis in which psychological study is applied to historical periods and personalities. "Psychoanalytic Pioneers "will be an important addition to the libraries of psychoanalysts, psychologists, psychiatrists, sociologists, historians, and anyone interested in the influence of psychoanalysis in our lives.

Book A Final Accounting

Download or read book A Final Accounting written by Edward Erwin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1995-12-12 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than a century has passed since Sigmund Freud began his groundbreaking work in psychoanalysis yet there is no consensus about his legacy; instead there is persistent disagreement not only about Freud's reputation and place in history but about the proper standards to use in evaluating his theory and therapy. This book develops epistemological standards for Freudian psychology and provides a comprehensive evaluation of, and possibly final, verdict on Freud's theory and therapy. Unlike any other evaluation published to date, it contains a systematic discussion of both the Freudian experimental and non-experimental evidence and the proper standards for interpreting the evidence. Part I considers the view that Freud's theory should be judged by special evidential standards deemed appropriate for judging hypotheses of commonsense psychology. Edward Erwin argues against this view and for the employment of standards applicable to causal hypotheses of both the natural and social sciences. Erwin also addresses other issues about standards such as the need for experimental evidence, the use of placebo controls, the proper goals of psychotherapy, and the use of meta-analysis in analyzing outcome data. The standards developed in part I of the book are used in part II in evaluating the best available Freudian evidence. A Bradford Book
