Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can we connect and converse with our personal spirit guides, our guardian angel and even the Christ? In a compelling and uplifting new work, Bob Woodward offers advice and suggestions on how we can link consciously with the spirit beings who seek to support us in everyday life. He demonstrates how, by reaching out to them, we can facilitate greater engagement and even direct dialogue. In the first part of Meeting Spirit Beings, we are introduced to human qualities that can awaken us to our personal spirit guides. ‘Intentionality’, ‘silence’, ‘trust’ and ‘gratitude’ are all important milestones on our inner path. Bob shares personal reflections as well as actual conversations with his own guides, who offer insights into methods and processes. In the second part of the book, we are encouraged to build a mindful relationship with our guardian angel, who accompanies us on earth, after death and during future incarnations. We are taught how to coordinate our life’s path with our angel and to facilitate a healing and supportive relationship. Finally, the author offers transcripts of an extraordinary series of ‘conversations’ with the Christ being – a dialogue he initiated one Christmas. If Christ is there to offer love and support to all human beings, should it not be possible to enter into direct dialogue with him? Bob’s attempts result in an inspiring series of discussions that offer beautiful perceptions of the meaning of life, death and eternity.

W. Chase Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the father of psychoanalysis, a clinical method for treating psychopathology through dialogue between a patient and a psychoanalyst. In creating psychoanalysis, Freud developed therapeutic techniques such as the use of free association and discovered transference, establishing its central role in the analytic process. Freud's redefinition of sexuality to include its infantile forms led him to formulate the Oedipus complex as the central tenet of psychoanalytical theory. His analysis of dreams as wish-fulfillments provided him with models for the clinical analysis of symptom formation and the mechanisms of repression as well as for elaboration of his theory of the unconscious. Freud postulated the existence of libido, an energy with which mental processes and structures are invested and which generates erotic attachments, and a death drive, the source of compulsive repetition, hate, aggression and neurotic guilt.

Book Free Will Agency and Meaning in Life

Download or read book Free Will Agency and Meaning in Life written by Derk Pereboom and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derk Pereboom articulates and defends an original conception of moral responsibility. He argues that if determinism were true we would not be morally responsible in the key basic-desert sense at issue in the free will debate, but that we would also lack this kind of moral responsibility if indeterminism were true and the causes of our actions were exclusively states or events. It is possible that if we were undetermined agent causes—if we as substances had the power to cause decisions without being causally determined to cause them—we would have this kind of free will. But although our being undetermined agent causes has not been ruled out as a coherent possibility, it's not credible given our best physical theories. Pereboom then contends that a conception of life without the free will required for moral responsibility in the basic-desert sense would nevertheless allow for a different, forward-looking conception of moral responsibility. He also argues that our lacking this sort of free will would not jeopardize our sense of ourselves as agents capable of rational deliberation, that it is compatible with adequate measures for dealing with crime and other threatening behavior, and that it allows for a robust sense of achievement and meaning in life. Pereboom's arguments for this position are reconfigured relative to those presented in Living without Free Will (2001), important objections to these arguments are answered, and the development of the positive view is significantly embellished.

Book From Surviving to Thriving

Download or read book From Surviving to Thriving written by Christine Dinsmore and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book will be of great value to any survivor of incest. Equally important, Christine Dinsmore teaches the rest of us--therapists, family members, and friends--how to be helpful to the survivor who takes on the task of ending the secrecy, recovering memories, and experiencing feelings. Dinsmore points out that the recovery process is unique for each survivor. You won't find any pat formulas here. Instead, the reader is left with a sensitivity and an awareness of the role one might play in the survivor's journey." -- from the Foreword, Jane R. Hirschmann From Surviving to Thriving: Incest, Feminism, and Recovery analyzes incest recovery from a feminist perspective. It is based on research with incest survivors and years of therapy with survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Unlike other writings on incest recovery, this book links the incest with patriarchy and its belief in male sexual entitlement. The discussions of incest and its traumatic effects, society's response to the sexual abuse of children, the recovery process, and the role of the supporting cast are reinforced by the words of incest survivors themselves. A detailed account of the incest healing treatment is also provided with specific treatments suggested for therapists working with incest survivors.
