Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chastity Newberry had more than enough on her plate with recovering from a ski accident. Just when she thought her life was finally improving, she received the news from hell. She’d been chosen as the winner in the Annual Dancing Beneath the Stars contest at her new job. No way was she going to go, especially since she'd have to dance with Cameron Barron. Cameron Barron was ticked off to begin with. Relocating to Detroit wasn't something he'd ever planned on doing, but here he was, cleaning up someone else’s mess. He didn’t think his life could possibly get any worse, until his evil secretary opened her mouth and ruined what was left of his sanity. What was she thinking, trying to rope him into a ridiculous dance contest where he, as acting CEO, would be the prize? Who the hell comes up with this crap? Someone else could stand in for him, or the annual event was going to be short the CEO. But fate, along with his meddling secretary, had different plans. Bad plans. As far as Cameron was concerned, it shouldn’t have been such a big surprise when things blew up in their faces. Now, he was being blackmailed into fixing it all. In order to meet the crazy demands of his secretary, he’d have to apologize to Chastity. However, she wouldn’t let him get near her. No problem. Cameron was used to a good challenge. He’d just create a disguise to solve this dilemma. Presto! The new persona could apologize on his behalf, then he could get the hell out of Detroit. Cameron’s plan was rock solid. Brilliant even! …Until that fateful day. One slip of the tongue was all it took.

Download or read book The Perplexity of Hariya Hercules written by Manohara Śyāma Jośī and published by Penguin Books India. This book was released on 2009 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Harihar Datt Tiwari, better known as Hariya Hercules is an infinitely patient man. He spends all his free time attending to his blind, infirm, chronically constipated father Girvan Datt Tiwari, who, before being afflicted with chronic bad luck, was a pillar of society. So when his father dies, Hariya, and everyone in the community, is stunned. Girvan Datt-ji leaves behind a trunk containing some jewellery and a clutch of pornographic pictures in which he is himself an active, enthusiastic participant. In the trunk, Hariya also finds a letter to his father from Lama Rigyang Cho of Lahaul-Spiti. The letter describes a curse Girvan has brought upon the Tiwari family by stealing the trunk from the deity of Goomalling, a mythical place somewhere in the Himalayas. Ever the dutiful son, Hariya goes looking for Goomalling to return the cursed object and mysteriously vanishes. After Hariya's exit from the scene, the story of his journey, his motives and his perplexity becomes communal property and soon there are as many versions as there are people. But as the narrator tries to piece these accounts together, they continually shift and change, creating a dark, uncertain world of hearsay and half-truths. And Hariya becomes variously a comic, tragic and, to many, even a noble figure.

Download or read book Philosophical Papers written by Peter Unger and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2006-03-02 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While well-known for his book-length work, philosopher Peter Unger's articles have been less widely accessible. These two volumes of Unger's Philosophical Papers include articles spanning more than 35 years of Unger's long and fruitful career. Dividing the articles thematically, this first volume collects work in epistemology and ethics, among other topics, while the second volume focuses on metaphysics. Unger's work has advanced the full spectrum of topics at the heart of philosophy, including epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language and philosophy of mind, and ethics. Unger advances radical positions, going against the so-called "commonsense philosophy" that has dominated the analytic tradition since its beginnings early in the twentieth century. In epistemology, his articles advance the view that nobody ever knows anything and, beyond that, argue that nobody has any reason to believe anything--and even beyond that, they argue that nobody has any reason to do anything, or even want anything. In metaphysics, his work argues that people do not really exist--and neither do puddles, plants, poodles, and planets. But, as Unger has often changed his favored positions, from one decade to the next, his work also advances the opposite, "commonsense" positions: that there are in fact plenty of people, puddles, plants and planets and, quite beyond that, we know it all to be true. On most major philosophical questions, both of these sides of Unger's significant work are well represented in this major two volume collection. Unger's vivid writing style, intellectual vitality, and fearlessness in the face of our largest philosophical questions, make these volumes of great interest not only to the philosophical community but to others who might otherwise find contemporary philosophy dry and technical.
Download or read book Be You Do Good written by Jonathan David Golden and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2016-01-12 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost anyone you ask would say that they want to do work that matters. Yet many people do not feel like they are actively making a difference in the world. Others may feel a sense of calling but lack either the courage or the supportive community to carry it out. But if God created each of us on purpose, for a purpose, we should be ordering our lives around that purpose. Jonathan D. Golden, founder of Land of a Thousand Hills coffee company, has discovered and is living out his unique calling to promote social, spiritual, and economic justice while providing a living wage to 2,500 farmers in Rwanda. Now he reveals to readers how to identify their calling, dispels the myths and misunderstandings we often have about what constitutes a calling, and challenges them to pursue that calling with a courage that can surmount the many obstacles that may lie in their path. He also shows readers how to cultivate a community of support that will help them fulfill their calling. For anyone who is dissatisfied with the work they are doing, just entering the workforce, or wondering what more is out there, this book reveals how to embrace the meaningful life they were meant to live.
