Book Optimal Control of Nonsmooth Distributed Parameter Systems

Download or read book Optimal Control of Nonsmooth Distributed Parameter Systems written by Dan Tiba and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-11-14 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the study of distributed control problems governed by various nonsmooth state systems. The main questions investigated include: existence of optimal pairs, first order optimality conditions, state-constrained systems, approximation and discretization, bang-bang and regularity properties for optimal control. In order to give the reader a better overview of the domain, several sections deal with topics that do not enter directly into the announced subject: boundary control, delay differential equations. In a subject still actively developing, the methods can be more important than the results and these include: adapted penalization techniques, the singular control systems approach, the variational inequality method, the Ekeland variational principle. Some prerequisites relating to convex analysis, nonlinear operators and partial differential equations are collected in the first chapter or are supplied appropriately in the text. The monograph is intended for graduate students and for researchers interested in this area of mathematics.

Book Some Optimal control Problems in Distributed parameter Systems

Download or read book Some Optimal control Problems in Distributed parameter Systems written by Manthri S. Narasimba and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dissertation concerns itself with the extension of some of the results known for the optimal control of lumped-parameter systems to distributed systems. The analytical design of the optimal regulator is worked out in detail for linear time-invariant distributed systems. The necessary conditions of optimality are derived using calculus of variations, and the boundary effects are studied in some generality. Two methods are suggested to solve the boundary value problems arising from the regulator problem for linear time-invariant systems. As a further application of the principles involved in the analytical design, the optimal control of a fluid interface is discussed. Next, optimal control of distributed systems with constraints on the control functions is studied. Functions analogous to the Hamiltonian of lumped-parameter systems are defined on the distributed field and on its boundary. Their relations on the boundary are also obtained. A necessary condition for optimality is enunciated as a maximum principle. A non-rigorous proof of this principle is presented. The situations when the maximum principle gives both necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality, are indicated. (Author).

Book Applied Optimal Control Theory of Distributed Systems

Download or read book Applied Optimal Control Theory of Distributed Systems written by K.A. Lurie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents an extended and substantially revised version of my earlierbook, Optimal Control in Problems ofMathematical Physics, originally published in Russian in 1975. About 60% of the text has been completely revised and major additions have been included which have produced a practically new text. My aim was to modernize the presentation but also to preserve the original results, some of which are little known to a Western reader. The idea of composites, which is the core of the modern theory of optimization, was initiated in the early seventies. The reader will find here its implementation in the problem of optimal conductivity distribution in an MHD-generatorchannel flow.Sincethen it has emergedinto an extensive theory which is undergoing a continuous development. The book does not pretend to be a textbook, neither does it offer a systematic presentation of the theory. Rather, it reflects a concept which I consider as fundamental in the modern approach to optimization of dis tributed systems. Bibliographical notes, though extensive, do not pretend to be exhaustive as well. My thanks are due to ProfessorJean-Louis Armand and ProfessorWolf Stadler whose friendly assistance in translating and polishing the text was so valuable. I am indebted to Mrs. Kathleen Durand and Mrs. Colleen Lewis for the hard job of typing large portions of the manuscript.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Control of Distributed Parameter Systems covers the proceedings of the Second IFAC Symposium, Coventry, held in Great Britain from June 28 to July 1, 1977. The book focuses on the methodologies, processes, and techniques in the control of distributed parameter systems, including boundary value control, digital transfer matrix, and differential equations. The selection first discusses the asymptotic methods in the optimal control of distributed systems; applications of distributed parameter control theory of a survey; and dual variational inequalities for external eigenvalue problems. The book also ponders on stochastic differential equations in Hilbert space and their application to delay systems and linear quadratic optimal control problem over an infinite time horizon for a class of distributed parameter systems. The manuscript investigates the semigroup approach to boundary value control and stability of nonlinear distributed parameter systems. Topics include boundary control action implemented through a dynamical system; classical boundary value controls; stability of nonlinear systems; and feedback control on the boundary. The text also focuses on the functional analysis interpretation of Lyapunov stability; method of multipliers for a class distributed parameter systems; and digital transfer matrix approach to distributed system simulation. The selection is a dependable source of data for readers interested in the control of distributed parameter systems.

Book Optimal Control of Distributed Systems Theory and Applications

Download or read book Optimal Control of Distributed Systems Theory and Applications written by A. V. Fursikov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999-11-16 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the analysis of optimal control problems for systems described by partial differential equations. The book offers simple and clear exposition of main results in this area. The methods proposed by the author cover cases where the controlled system corresponds to well-posed or ill-posed boundary value problems, which can be linear or nonlinear. The uniqueness problem for the solution of nonlinear optimal control problems is analyzed in various settings. Solutions of several previously unsolved problems are given. In addition, general methods are applied to the study of two problems connected with optimal control of fluid flows described by the Navier-Stokes equations.

Book Control of Distributed Parameter and Stochastic Systems

Download or read book Control of Distributed Parameter and Stochastic Systems written by Shuping Chen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the mathematical treatment of many problems which arise in physics, economics, engineering, management, etc., the researcher frequently faces two major difficulties: infinite dimensionality and randomness of the evolution process. Infinite dimensionality occurs when the evolution in time of a process is accompanied by a space-like dependence; for example, spatial distribution of the temperature for a heat-conductor, spatial dependence of the time-varying displacement of a membrane subject to external forces, etc. Randomness is intrinsic to the mathematical formulation of many phenomena, such as fluctuation in the stock market, or noise in communication networks. Control theory of distributed parameter systems and stochastic systems focuses on physical phenomena which are governed by partial differential equations, delay-differential equations, integral differential equations, etc., and stochastic differential equations of various types. This has been a fertile field of research with over 40 years of history, which continues to be very active under the thrust of new emerging applications. Among the subjects covered are: Control of distributed parameter systems; Stochastic control; Applications in finance/insurance/manufacturing; Adapted control; Numerical approximation . It is essential reading for applied mathematicians, control theorists, economic/financial analysts and engineers.

Book The Optimal Control of Linear Distributed Parameter Systems Control of Distributed Parameter Systems Vol Ii of Final Report

Download or read book The Optimal Control of Linear Distributed Parameter Systems Control of Distributed Parameter Systems Vol Ii of Final Report written by E. I. Axelband and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term distributed parameter system as used in the report shall mean a plant, or object whose outputs are to be controlled, which is characterized by a partial differential equation. The consideration of such systems is a relatively recent event, motivated both by practical problems and by a desire to extend and generalize the existing body of optimal control theory. The theory of partial differential equations is considerably more detailed and contains considerably fewer general results than the theory of ordinary differential equations. Because of this the authors introduce specialized notions and symbology, not in common usage in optimal control theory, in order to be able to state their results with some precision and compactness. It was the intent in writing the report to present results to a wide control engineering readership. In keeping with this, a section of the report is devoted to an explanation of the requisit mathematical operations, and, where expedient, detailed mathematical proofs are deferred to the references. Hueristic arguments are used as a vehicle to transmit concepts, but not as a substitute for required rigor. Several optimal control problems for linear distributed parameter systems are stated. Theoretical and algorithmic solutions are presented along with examples to illustrate these results.
