Book Computer Algebra in Scientific Computing CASC 2001

Download or read book Computer Algebra in Scientific Computing CASC 2001 written by Viktor G. Ganzha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CASC 2001 continues a tradition ~ started in 1998 ~ of international con ferences on the latest advances in the application of computer algebra systems to the solution of various problems in scientific computing. The three ear (CASs) lier conferences in this sequence, CASC'98, CASC'99, and CASC 2000, were held, Petersburg, Russia, in Munich, Germany, and in Samarkand, respectively, in St. Uzbekistan, and proved to be very successful. We have to thank the program committee, listed overleaf, for a tremendous job in soliciting and providing reviews for the submitted papers. There were more than three reviews per submission on average. The result of this job is reflected in the present volume, which contains revised versions of the accepted papers. The collection of papers included in the proceedings covers various topics of computer algebra methods, algorithms and software applied to scientific computing. In particular, five papers are devoted to the implementation of the analysis of involutive systems with the aid of CASso The specific examples include new efficient algorithms for the computation of Janet bases for monomial ideals, involutive division, involutive reduction method, etc. A number of papers deal with application of CASs for obtaining and vali dating new exact solutions to initial and boundary value problems for partial differential equations in mathematical physics. Several papers show how CASs can be used to obtain analytic solutions of initial and boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations and for studying their properties.

Book A Bridge to Advanced Mathematics

Download or read book A Bridge to Advanced Mathematics written by Sebastian M. Cioabă and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-12-21 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most introduction to proofs textbooks focus on the structure of rigorous mathematical language and only use mathematical topics incidentally as illustrations and exercises. In contrast, this book gives students practice in proof writing while simultaneously providing a rigorous introduction to number systems and their properties. Understanding the properties of these systems is necessary throughout higher mathematics. The book is an ideal introduction to mathematical reasoning and proof techniques, building on familiar content to ensure comprehension of more advanced topics in abstract algebra and real analysis with over 700 exercises as well as many examples throughout. Readers will learn and practice writing proofs related to new abstract concepts while learning new mathematical content. The first task is analogous to practicing soccer while the second is akin to playing soccer in a real match. The authors believe that all students should practice and play mathematics. The book is written for students who already have some familiarity with formal proof writing but would like to have some extra preparation before taking higher mathematics courses like abstract algebra and real analysis.

Book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations written by William F. Ames and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is designed as an introduction to the concepts of modern numerical analysis as they apply to partial differential equations. The book contains many practical problems and their solutions, but at the same time, strives to expose the pitfalls--such as overstability, consistency requirements, and the danger of extrapolation to nonlinear problems methods used on linear problems. Numerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, Third Edition reflects the great accomplishments that have taken place in scientific computation in the fifteen years since the Second Edition was published. This new edition is a drastic revision of the previous one, with new material on boundary elements, spectral methods, the methods of lines, and invariant methods. At the same time, the new edition retains the self-contained nature of the older version, and shares the clarity of its exposition and the integrity of its presentation. Material on finite elements and finite differences have been merged, and now constitute equal partners Additional material has been added on boundary elements, spectral methods, the method of lines, and invariant methods References have been updated, and reflect the additional material Self-contained nature of the Second Edition has been maintained Very suitable for PDE courses

Download or read book Effective Methods in Algebraic Geometry written by T. Mora and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The symposium "MEGA-90 - Effective Methods in Algebraic Geome try" was held in Castiglioncello (Livorno, Italy) in April 17-211990. The themes - we quote from the "Call for papers" - were the fol lowing: - Effective methods and complexity issues in commutative algebra, pro jective geometry, real geometry, algebraic number theory - Algebraic geometric methods in algebraic computing Contributions in related fields (computational aspects of group theory, differential algebra and geometry, algebraic and differential topology, etc.) were also welcome. The origin and the motivation of such a meeting, that is supposed to be the first of a series, deserves to be explained. The subject - the theory and the practice of computation in alge braic geometry and related domains from the mathematical viewpoin- has been one of the themes of the symposia organized by SIGSAM (the Special Interest Group for Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation of the Association for Computing Machinery), SAME (Symbolic and Algebraic Manipulation in Europe), and AAECC (the semantics of the name is vary ing; an average meaning is "Applied Algebra and Error Correcting Codes").
