Book Success by Default

Download or read book Success by Default written by Michael Solomon and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-04 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BUT NOT FOR THE FUEHRER is Helmut Jung's story of personal survival in Hitler's Germany, through World War II, and in occupied Germany after the end of the war. In all of those times survival was the single key that kept him going, survival of the fighting, the famine, and the political oppression. This is not simply a war story. Yes, the war plays a big part within this story but Helmut was often at war with his own people just as much as he was with the Russians. It was often difficult to know who to fear the most, the enemy on the other side of the front lines or the enemy behind you who were making you fight. And fight he did, wounded twice, receiving special training as a sniper and as a demolitions expert, and receiving awards for his bravery. He was also captured by the Russians but was one of the very few who escaped. In addition, the SS held him as a spy after he escaped from the Russians. As a war story, BUT NOT FOR THE FEUHRER is truly outstanding but it is far more than just a war story. Mike Nesbitt

Book Loving Bravely

Download or read book Loving Bravely written by Alexandra H. Solomon and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2017-02-02 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As seen on The TODAY Show! “A godsend to anyone searching for, but struggling to find, true love in their lives.” —Kristin Neff, PhD, author of Self-Compassion "Empowering and compassionate, and its lessons are universal." —Publishers Weekly Real love starts with you. In order to attract a life partner and build a healthy intimate relationship, you must first become a good partner to yourself. This book offers twenty invaluable lessons that will help you explore and commit to your own emotional and psychological well-being so you can be ready, resilient, and confident in love. Many of us enter into romantic relationships full of expectation and hope, only to be sorely disappointed by the realization that the partner we’ve selected is a flawed human being with their own neuroses, history, and desires. Most relationships end because one or both people haven’t done the internal work necessary to develop self-awareness and take responsibility for their own experiences. We’ve all heard “You can’t love anyone unless you love yourself,” but amid life’s distractions and the myth of perfect, romantic love, how exactly do you do that? In Loving Bravely, psychologist, professor and relationship expert Alexandra H. Solomon introduces the idea of relational self-awareness, encouraging you to explore your personal history to gain an understanding of your own relational patterns, as well as your strengths and weaknesses in relationships. By doing so, you’ll learn what relationships actually require, beyond the fairytale notions of romance. And by maintaining a steady but gentle focus on yourself, you’ll build the best possible foundation for making a loving connection. By understanding your past relationship experiences, cultivating a strong sense of self-awareness, and determining what it is you really want in a romantic partner—you’ll be ready to find the healthy, lasting love your heart desires.

Book The Solomon Portfolio

Download or read book The Solomon Portfolio written by Robert W. Katz and published by Dc Press. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is simple: to make you richer than you are presently --through sensible, understandable financial concepts and through a stronger relationship with God. Using the strength of wisdom displayed by the richest and wisest man known throughout history -- King Solomon, the author puts that knowledge and wisdom to work in approaching modern day investing. The book is practical and very easy to understand. What was revealed to Solomon can be applied to your own investments. Since no software will ever be able to accurately tell anyone what specific investment will be guaranteed to work; the same goes for investment advisers. The key to proper investing is to properly diversify and to prudently monitor one's investments. By setting up a portfolio that confirms Solomon's advise and uses scientific research and hard fact, the seven specific asset types that produce amazing results are called "The Solomon Portfolio." The seven are large-cap US stocks, small-cap US stocks, Non-US stocks, commodities and natural resources, real estate investment trusts, intermediate bonds, and cash.

Book Social Empiricism

  • Author : Miriam Solomon
  • Publisher : MIT Press
  • Release : 2007-01-26
  • ISBN : 9780262264648
  • Pages : 198 pages

Download or read book Social Empiricism written by Miriam Solomon and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2007-01-26 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the last forty years, two claims have been at the core of disputes about scientific change: that scientists reason rationally and that science is progressive. For most of this time discussions were polarized between philosophers, who defended traditional Enlightenment ideas about rationality and progress, and sociologists, who espoused relativism and constructivism. Recently, creative new ideas going beyond the polarized positions have come from the history of science, feminist criticism of science, psychology of science, and anthropology of science. Addressing the traditional arguments as well as building on these new ideas, Miriam Solomon constructs a new epistemology of science. After discussions of the nature of empirical success and its relation to truth, Solomon offers a new, social account of scientific rationality. She shows that the pursuit of empirical success and truth can be consistent with both dissent and consensus, and that the distinction between dissent and consensus is of little epistemic significance. In building this social epistemology of science, she shows that scientific communities are not merely the locus of distributed expert knowledge and a resource for criticism but also the site of distributed decision making. Throughout, she illustrates her ideas with case studies from late-nineteenth- and twentieth-century physical and life sciences. Replacing the traditional focus on methods and heuristics to be applied by individual scientists, Solomon emphasizes science funding, administration, and policy. One of her goals is to have a positive influence on scientific decision making through practical social recommendations.
