Book Solid Propellant Combustion Phenomena

Download or read book Solid Propellant Combustion Phenomena written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This final scientific report reviews the progress from May 1979 to December 1982 on a program to study various aspects of solid propellant combustion phenomena. The original program included three specific areas of study: Diffusion flame analysis; Kinetic mechanisms of double base propellants; Interaction effects of distributed particle combustion in acoustic environments. The diffusion flame is the controlling mechanism in the combustion of composite propellants. Therefore, a thorough understanding of diffusion flames is prerequisite to understanding solid propellant combustion, and was the objective of one task of the program. The second task of the program was motivated by the desire to better understand transient combustion such as occurs in DDT and combustion instability. Double base propellant combustion is dominated by the flame kinetics which appear to be more easily studied than those of composite propellants. The final task of the program was aimed at understanding the effect of stability additives on combustion instability. During the final year of the contract, work on the first two tasks was discontinued and all work was concentrated on the third task. Interim reports covering the initial work have been published in December 1980 and February 1982. This report summarizes the work performed during the final phase of the contract covering the time from October 1981 through December 1982. Keywords: Solid rocket propellants.

Book Solid Propellant Ignition and Other Unsteady Combustion Phenomena Induced by Radiation

Download or read book Solid Propellant Ignition and Other Unsteady Combustion Phenomena Induced by Radiation written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental and analytical investigations were conducted to understand the ignition and nonsteady burning processes that occur at and near the propellant surface, to determine the connection between the ignitability of a propellant and its other nonsteady combustion characteristics, to quantify the peculiarities of radiative ignition, and to develop a means of ranking propellant ignitability. As a result of these investigations, radiative ignition processes have been explained for a wide variety of propellant and test conditions. The stability properties of heterogeneous combustion waves were considered for linear and nonlinear situations. Nonlinear (large disturbances) solid propellant stability boundaries can be immediately defined from the knowledge of the associated restoring function. The restoring function is a property strictly dependent on the nature of the solid propellant.

Book Propellants and Explosives

Download or read book Propellants and Explosives written by Naminosuke Kubota and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-04-23 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of the classic on the thermochemical aspects of the combustion of propellants and explosives is completely revised and updated and now includes a section on green propellants and offers an up-to-date view of the thermochemical aspects of combustion and corresponding applications. Clearly structured, the first half of the book presents an introduction to pyrodynamics, describing fundamental aspects of the combustion of energetic materials, while the second part highlights applications of energetic materials, such as propellants, explosives and pyrolants, with a focus on the phenomena occurring in rocket motors. Finally, an appendix gives a brief overview of the fundamentals of aerodynamics and heat transfer, which is a prerequisite for the study of pyrodynamics. A detailed reference for readers interested in rocketry or explosives technology.

Book Transient Combustion in Solid Propellant Cracks

Download or read book Transient Combustion in Solid Propellant Cracks written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A one-dimensional theoretical model, incorporating the Noble-Abel dense gas law, has been developed to describe the transient model combustion phenomena inside a propellant crack. The theoretical model can be used to predict wave phenomena, heat transfer from the gas to the propellant surface and associated thermal penetration, flame propagation, and resultant pressurization at various locations along the propellant cavity. Calculations made with the current theoretical model revealed that the internal pressurization rate, pressure gradient, and flame velocity in propellant cracks (for which gases can penetrate) decrease as: the gap width increases, the rocket chamber pressurization rate decreases, and the propellant gasification temperature increases. Additionally, the predicted flame spreading was found to decelerate in a region near the crack tip; this phenomena has been experimentally observed by others.

Book Solid Rocket Combustion Phenomena

Download or read book Solid Rocket Combustion Phenomena written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Final Technical Report describes completed research accomplishments and ongoing activities that are focused on the evolution of boundary driven acoustic disturbances in a low Mach number shear flow like that found in the chamber of a solid rocket engine. The completed work (manuscripts in Appendices A and B) focuses on the relatively complex wave systems that appear in a two-dimensional planar shear flow following the refraction of very simple, initially planar axial disturbances. Work in progress emphasizes; (1) the characteristics of acoustic disturbances driven by sidewall mass addition in semi-confined channels and tubes, (2) the role of strongly injected Stokes boundary layers in providing a transition from the acoustic flow to the no-slip condition on the wall, and (3) mathematical methods required to deal with nonlinear processes within an acoustically disturbed flow. The review of our work emphasizes the importance of studying the evolution of boundary driven acoustic disturbances, primarily to gain an understanding of how small burning rate transients (modelled by unsteady wall injection) lead to large engine chamber responses observed in unstable solid rockets.

Book An Investigation of High Pressure Combustion Phenomena in Solid Propellants

Download or read book An Investigation of High Pressure Combustion Phenomena in Solid Propellants written by Norbert D'Souza and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical analysis and experimental measurements are defined for the investigation of high pressure combustion of solid propellants in ballistic devices. A new and accurate heat flux measurement technique is used for determination of the equation of state for the propellant gas. A method of determining the burning rate for the solid propellant from the closed chamber tests is described. The interior ballistic theory is reviewed in the context of a high pressure combustion device. Design and instrumentation of the closed chamber test apparatus for the equation of state and the burning rate measurements are included. An open ballistic chamber test apparatus with a moving projectile, for measurement of projectile friction and for verification of the interior ballistic performance at high chamber pressures is described. Book Solid Rocket Propulsion Technology

Download or read book Solid Rocket Propulsion Technology written by A. Davenas and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, a translation of the French title Technologie des Propergols Solides, offers otherwise unavailable information on the subject of solid propellants and their use in rocket propulsion. The fundamentals of rocket propulsion are developed in chapter one and detailed descriptions of concepts are covered in the following chapters. Specific design methods and the theoretical physics underlying them are presented, and finally the industrial production of the propellant itself is explained. The material used in the book has been collected from different countries, as the development of this field has occurred separately due to the classified nature of the subject. Thus the reader not only has an overall picture of solid rocket propulsion technology but a comprehensive view of its different developmental permutations worldwide.
