Book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research

Download or read book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research written by M. Summerfield and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The annual report highlights the progress being made on several concurrent solid propellant combustion mechanism researches. Studies of nitrocellulose-base propellants have produced a broad range of experimental results for platonized and unplatonized propellants. The corresponding mathematical models consider the flame zone processes controlling temperature sensitivity, extinguishment limits, and burning rate. The analytical studies of ignition and burning of porous propellants are producing good agreement with data, new insights into the combustion processes, and establishing regimes where steady-state burning rates are achievable. The work of nonsteady burning has progressed to the point that rocket motor transients can be predicted and dynamic burning rates in a variable throat area, low L* motor can be measured; this work has progressed from the research phase to the development stage. Sub- micron pyrophoric aluminum is being investigated as a means of increasing propellant burning rate.

Book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research 1977 1978 Annual Report

Download or read book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research 1977 1978 Annual Report written by L. H. Caveny and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The combustion processes of solid propellants and rocket chamber Flows are being analyzed in terms of more complete flame models and fluid dynamics models. The flame structure, surface processes, and liquid layer decomposition of a cyclic nitramine (e.g., RDX) have been modeled. The model includes the partial decomposition of the nitramine molecule in the liquid phase, surface gasification, gas phase decomposition, and oxidation of formaldehyde. Several propellants (e.g., nitramine composite and nitrocellulose-based propellants) produce flame zones which extend well into the main chamber flow field. An analytical model is being developed that considers the effects of chemical reactions (i.e., extended flame zones) in the main chamber flow on the acoustic response of solid rocket motors. (Author).

Book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research 1975 1980

Download or read book Solid Propellant Combustion Mechanism Research 1975 1980 written by Leonard H. Caveny and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research is directed at making direct measurements of the acoustic admittance of flames and interpreting those measurements in terms of flame models. Laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) instrumentation, pressure detectors, and data analysis techniques were set up and used successfully to measure the acoustic response of a propane/air burner system. Applications of the techniques to solid propellants are described and are the subjects of the continuing research. (Author).

Book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion

Download or read book Theory of Solid Propellant Nonsteady Combustion written by Vasily B. Novozhilov and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-08-21 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite significant developments and widespread theoretical and practical interest in the area of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion for the last fifty years, a comprehensive and authoritative text on the subject has not been available. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion fills this gap by summarizing theoretical approaches to the problem within the framework of the Zeldovich-Novozhilov (ZN-) theory. This book contains equations governing unsteady combustion and applies them systematically to a wide range of problems of practical interest. Theory conclusions are validated, as much as possible, against available experimental data. Theory of Solid-Propellant Nonsteady Combustion provides an accurate up-to-date account and perspectives on the subject and is also accompanied by a website hosting solutions to problems in the book.

Book Nonsteady Combustion Mechanisms of Advanced Solid Propellants

Download or read book Nonsteady Combustion Mechanisms of Advanced Solid Propellants written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes progress on a collaborative research program combining the expertise of individuals from several universities to develop a new ability to predict the propulsion performance of solid rocket motors. The focus of the research on nonsteady behavior is unique and the overall project is not possible at any one of the institutions participating in this coordinated research. The individual tasks which we are studying will pursue solid propellant decomposition under unsteady conditions, nonsteady aspects of gas phase flame structure measurements, numerical modeling of multidimensional flame structure, propellant/flame interactions and overall nonsteady propellant combustion characteristics in realistic rocket motor environments. Our goal has been to develop general models of fundamental mechanisms of combustion instability that can be applied to a variety of new energetic materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third edition of the classic on the thermochemical aspects of the combustion of propellants and explosives is completely revised and updated and now includes a section on green propellants and offers an up-to-date view of the thermochemical aspects of combustion and corresponding applications. Clearly structured, the first half of the book presents an introduction to pyrodynamics, describing fundamental aspects of the combustion of energetic materials, while the second part highlights applications of energetic materials, such as propellants, explosives and pyrolants, with a focus on the phenomena occurring in rocket motors. Finally, an appendix gives a brief overview of the fundamentals of aerodynamics and heat transfer, which is a prerequisite for the study of pyrodynamics. A detailed reference for readers interested in rocketry or explosives technology.

Book Mechanism of Combustion of Heterogeneous Solid Propellants

Download or read book Mechanism of Combustion of Heterogeneous Solid Propellants written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the research is to establish the processes in solid propellant combustion that control steady and nonsteady combustion rate (composite propellants). The practical goal is to: 1. Tailor burning rate by variation of formulation (oxidizer particle size, ballistic modifiers, and choice of binders). This includes learning what processes lead to low or negative sensitivity of burning rate to pressure increase (plateau and mesa burning). 2. Determine steps in the combustion process that are most responsive to oscillatory flows (combustion instability). 3. Evaluate the combustion characteristics of new oxidizer and binder ingredients, and of propellants that include new ingredients (and compare results with those of AP oxidizer and Ap/hydrocarbon binder propellants). 4. Develop a realistic qualitative model of the combustion process that would identify the requirements for formulation of realistic analytical models.
