Book Roller Compacted Concrete Studies at Lost Creek Dam

Download or read book Roller Compacted Concrete Studies at Lost Creek Dam written by Donald J. Hall and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At Lost Creek Dam at Trail, Oregon, lean 3-inch maximum size aggregate (MSA) concrete mixtures were designed to be compacted by vibratory rollers. The control mix contained 235 pounds cement per cubic yard while other mixtures had a portion of the total volume of cement replaced with pozzolan, either fly ash or a locally available calcined shale. Each layer, except bedding layers, was approximately 8-inches thick after compaction. Laboratory work on control testing was conducted. It was concluded that properly proportioned roller compacted concrete can be effectively placed by soils compaction methods using a vibratory roller. The results of tests on drilled core specimens indicate that permeability and bond test results are similar to conventionally placed lean mass concrete values. The quality of the hardened lift joint is improved with the use of bedding mixtures. A modified Vebe apparatus can be used for control testing and for molding concrete central cylinders. Book Soil Compaction and Proof rolling of Subgrades

Download or read book Soil Compaction and Proof rolling of Subgrades written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paper 1: The object of this paper is to give a brief outline of the test installation and techniques employed at the road research laboratory in carrying out the full-scale compaction tests and to give a summary of the main results obtained in the investigations. Paper 2 shows the cases where proof-rolling will be effective and those cases where it will not. Paper 3 deals with the use of flowing water as a compacting and stabilizing agent. Paper 4 presents a new approach to liquid limit determinations by a one-point procedure. Necessary equations, charts and tables, developed on the AASHO road test and easily usable by technicians, are presented.

Book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Design Construction and Performance written by Norbert Delatte and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Bearing Capacity of Roads Railways and Airfields

Download or read book Bearing Capacity of Roads Railways and Airfields written by Andreas Loizos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-07-20 with total page 3209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways and Airfields includes the contributions to the 10th International Conference on the Bearing Capacity of Roads, Railways and Airfields (BCRRA 2017, 28-30 June 2017, Athens, Greece).
