Download or read book Stonecavern written by Laura Woodward and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-03-11 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the silent aftermath he heard a gurgle of water. He was dusty and dirty from the rock explosion and the splashing of the water beckoned him. Water emerged from an opening high overhead and gently cascaded down the rocks to form a pool. He leaned over and splashed the water over his face letting its refreshing coolness linger. A few drops fell from his hands and formed rings in the water. Sliding his hands down his face he peered into the clear pool. Whats this? At first he thought his eyes played a trick on him and then he looked again. Gradually the entire valley below came into focus as if he possessed the sight of a dragon. He could clearly see every farm down to the trees planted in the orchards! He stepped back and his eyes went to the golden throne elevated above the pool of water. One could sit upon the throne and look into the water surveying the land below. He walked over to admire its workmanship. Gently his long thin fingers touched the markings etched into its massive arms; the same mysterious symbols that covered Stonecaverns walls. The embedded gems sparkled in the fire light invitingly. He stepped onto the stone platform and sat down. It fi t him perfectly. Rubbing his hands over the arm rests he marveled at how seamlessly his gems blended into the gold. Master craftsmanship or dragon power? Either way he felt an unequaled power of transformation radiate from the magnifi cent piece. Could he use this power to transform his thoughts to his evil intent?

Download or read book My Ivy Green written by Killy Kandeu Chisale and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil wars have badly devastated the economies of many African countries, most particularly in the Sub-Saharan region, where millions have been massacred, displaced, rendered homeless, or driven into absolute poverty. In his novel, My Ivy Green, Killy Kandeu Chisale exposes the severity of misery and suffering that might have befallen those in countries ravaged by civil wars. In most cases, these wars are waged because of selfishness, greed, and hunger for power. Though the world is mostly concerned about the sufferings of civilians, the soldiers actively involved in combat also suffer and have sad stories to tell. The 16-year Mozambican Civil War inspired this novel. The author at one time stayed in a village on the borders of Malawi and Mozambique, witnessing many horrible things and hearing frightening stories against humanity. The basis of this novel is the product of his imagination, and the names, places, and personalities are all imaginary. My Ivy Green begins with a civil war breaking out in the African nation of Mauziland, a country sharing a boundary with Amowa. After rebels take up arms against the democratically elected government of Mauziland, a captain with the Amowa army is captured and tortured. He is treated by a nurse who helps him escape, and together they travel through enemy lines heading toward safety.

Breaking the Cycle is a stunning and moving anthology of stories, each of which focuses on an aspect of domestic abuse. In the title story, Zane describes the turmoil that a young girl suffers at the hands of her stepfather. The girl and her mother plan their escape, but at the last minute the mother falters. In D.V. Bernard's "The Lonely Echoes of My Youth," readers are introduced to a young boy raising himself on the fringes of a drug-infested neigborhood. Nane Quartay's provocative story, "The Grindstone," describes a boy who witnesses a brutal murder which will have far-reaching effects on him and his family. Tracy Price-Thompson weaves a powerful tale in "The Stranger" when a woman constantly abused by her husband finds inner strength after a brutal attack. Collen Dixon's "The Break of Dawn" will keep readers deep in thought long after they finish reading her story about a young desperate mother terrifed that her own daughter will grow up and become victimized herself. Dywane D. Birch's "Victory Begins With Me" reflects how one woman has to struggle to get her life back to normal. Shonda Cheekes' "Silent Suffering" flips the script when a man finds himself abused by the female in his life. Newcomer J.L. Woodson's "God Does Answer Prayers" deals with a young boy fighting for his life in a hospital bed, put there by one of the people who is supposed to love him the most: a parent. These stories capture the dangerous realities of domestic abuse, while also pointing toward the steps that need to be taken to break the cycle that perpetuates it.
