Book X ray Standing Wave Technique The Principles And Applications

Download or read book X ray Standing Wave Technique The Principles And Applications written by Jorg Zegenhagen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-01-30 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The X-ray standing wave (XSW) technique is an X-ray interferometric method combining diffraction with a multitude of spectroscopic techniques. It is extremely powerful for obtaining information about virtually all properties of surfaces and interfaces on the atomic scale. However, as with any other technique, it has strengths and limitations. The proper use and necessary understanding of this method requires knowledge in quite different fields of physics and technology. This volume presents comprehensively the theoretical background, technical requirements and distinguished experimental highlights of the technique. Containing contributions from the most prominent experts of the technique, such as Andre Authier, Boris Batterman, Michael J Bedzyk, Jene Golovchenko, Victor Kohn, Michail Kovalchuk, Gerhard Materlik and D Phil Woodruff, the book equips scientists with all the necessary information and knowledge to understand and use the XSW technique in practically all applications.

Book Soft X ray Optics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eberhard Spiller
  • Publisher : SPIE Press
  • Release : 1994
  • ISBN : 9780819416544
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book Soft X ray Optics written by Eberhard Spiller and published by SPIE Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes optics mainly in the 10 to 500 angstrom wavelength region. These wavelengths are 50 to 100 times shorter than those for visible light and 50 to 100 times longer than the wavelengths of medical x rays or x-ray diffraction from natural crystals. There have been substantial advances during the last 20 years, which one can see as an extension of optical technology to shorter wavelengths or as an extension of x-ray diffraction to longer wavelengths. Artificial diffracting structures like zone plates and multilayer mirrors are replacing the natural crystals of x-ray diffraction. Some of these structures can now be fabricated to have diffraction-limited resolution. The new possibilities are described in a simple, tutorial way.

Book Surface X Ray and Neutron Scattering

Download or read book Surface X Ray and Neutron Scattering written by Hartmut Zabel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Owing to the increased availability of synchrotron sources, surface X-ray scattering is a rapidly expanding technique with important applications to surface structures and surface phase transitions, roughening of surfaces and interfaces, and the structure of liquid surfaces, including polymers, liquid crystals, and organic films. Surface studies with neutrons, on the other hand provide important information on liquid andmagnetic films. The contributions to this volume, written by active researchers in the field, provide an up-to-date overview of the highly sophisticated techniques and their applications.

Book Electrostatic Effects in Soft Matter and Biophysics

Download or read book Electrostatic Effects in Soft Matter and Biophysics written by Christian Holm and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soft Condensed Matter commonly deals with materials that are mechanically soft and, more importantly, particularly prone to thermal fluctuation effects. Charged soft matter systems are especially interesting: they can be manufactured artificially as polyelectrolytes to serve as superabsorbers in dypers, as flocculation and retention agents, as thickeners and gelling agents, and as oil-recovery process aids. They are also abundant in living organisms, mostly performing important structural (e.g. membranes) and functional (e.g. DNA) tasks. The book describes the many areas in soft matter and biophysics where electrostatic interactions play an important role. It offers in-depth coverage of recent theoretical approaches, advances in computer simulation, and novel experimental techniques. Readership: Advanced undergraduate level in physics, physical chemistry, and theoretical biochemistry.
