Book Social Welfare Programs and Social Work Education at a Crossroads

Download or read book Social Welfare Programs and Social Work Education at a Crossroads written by Antonio López Peláez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores a key phenomenon that has been accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis, namely, the crossroads at which social welfare professionals find themselves. This is a crossroads where, on the one hand, there is an accelerated digitalization process and a reorganization of social programs, while on the other hand, we are confronted by the basic challenge of designing social policies and their methods of evaluation, that is, the generation of robust data that will allow better evaluation of social projects and programs. Rigorously analyzing the crossroads at which social welfare programs find themselves and the new demands for the education of professionals involved in social welfare programs, several key issues can be discerned; • the theoretical debate surrounding the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the process of redefining globalization in which we are immersed. • the challenges to be met by welfare programs, and the good practices that are being implemented. • the key issue of how to generate more robust data in the field of social services and social protection. • how to increase the competencies of professionals through education in schools of social work. Providing 15 newly written chapters drawn from both the global north and the global south, it offers a set of recommendations to address the challenges of inequality and social inclusion in the coming years. It will be of interest to all academics, students and practitioners working in the fields of social work, social welfare and social development.

It provides students with the knowledge, skills, and values that are essential for working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and public policy in a variety of practice settings. The new edition calls students to become engaged in some of society’s most challenging issues through diverse case studies and an emphasis on global issues. Students will read accounts of real-world social work, such as in Chapter 8 where thirteen social workers share their experiences in twelve different practice settings, including health and mental health, criminal justice, school, public health, and rural settings. Social workers describe working with children and families, immigrants and refugees, military veterans and families, older adults, persons with addictions, and persons with disabilities. This edition also includes new profiles of social workers and one older adult that depict individual journeys, contemporary practice areas, and challenges. The fourth edition of Social Work and Social Welfare is in full color, with more visuals and photos throughout. As with previous editions, this book is an up-to-date profile of the world in which today’s social workers practice, with current demographic, statistical, legislative, policy, and research information; and sensitive discussions of contemporary ethical issues. The text includes exercises from six interactive cases, including the new case, Brickville. Book Access at the Crossroads

Download or read book Access at the Crossroads written by David R. Arendale and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-05-17 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning assistance often operates at the crossroads of the institution where academic affairs, student affairs, and enrollment management converge. This report investigates the effectiveness of learning assistance for supporting academic affairs with better-prepared students for academically rigorous courses, working with student affairs to achieve higher student development outcomes, and supporting enrollment management programs to increase persistence rates. This report explores difficult questions confronting learning assistance: What is the obligation of colleges for providing assistance for its students? Is learning assistance a civil rights issue for historically underrepresented students attending postsecondary education? What is the history of learning assistance for serving previous generations of students, even at the most prestigious public and private institutions in the United States? Are learning assistance needs better met by high schools and two-year institutions? Do learning assistance activities benefit the postsecondary institution and society? Although it has a presence in most postsecondary institutions, the expression of learning assistance is quite diverse through credit and noncredit activities. The preferred term used in this report is "learning assistance," because it is commonly used and most inclusive of the various approaches and activities of the field. This is the sixth issue the 35th volume of the Jossey-Bass series ASHE Higher Education Report. Each monograph in the series is the definitive analysis of a tough higher education problem, based on thorough research of pertinent literature and institutional experiences. Topics are identified by a national survey. Noted practitioners and scholars are then commissioned to write the reports, with experts providing critical reviews of each manuscript before publication.
