Book Soaring A Story of Courage

Download or read book Soaring A Story of Courage written by Suneel Ram and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2023-02-21 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering the debilitating effects of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Suneel Ram finds the strength and determination to fight for the drug that could prolong his life and help others who are battling this rare disease. “The day in Nova Scotia, I saw an American Bald Eagle soaring right above me . . . it was almost like he was trying to teach me something . . .” Suneel Ram, born with the degenerative disease called Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, found the strength and inspiration he needed from that eagle. Suneel too longed to soar against the wind and show the world the strength hidden within his fragile body. Suneel’s childhood and teen years were marred by broken bones and extreme muscle weakness. Confined to a motorized wheelchair, he was stuck on the sidelines as his peers ran and played. Even just writing was agony, and he relied on his aide to help him with just about everything. But the pain from his disease was nothing compared to the pain of loneliness. He longed to rise up from his wheelchair and tell the world about who he really was, beyond his disease. He needed to find his voice. He got that chance in college. After a professor gave an inept description of DMD to the biology class, Suneel was determined to tell the class the truth about living with DMD. He composed a speech and courageously addressed the class. That day he spoke with strength and his audience was mesmerized. He had found his voice. Now he would take back his life. A new drug that could offer Suneel that chance, had been approved, but he was denied admittance into the clinical trials. He was too old, according to the rules. And then the insurance company denied his coverage. Yet Suneel would not quit. He decided to write a letter himself, no matter how insurmountable that task seemed. Adversity simply strengthened his resolve. Like the eagle, he needed to fly against the wind in order to soar.

Book excerpt: Harper Lee is celebrated worldwide for To Kill A Mockingbird, her Pulitzer prize winning novel. Published in 1960, To Kill A Mockingbird is a classic coming-of-age story that advocates for tolerance, courage, and love--especially in the face of bigotry and injustice. It is the only novel that Lee ever wrote. Born Nelle Harper Lee in the small town of Monroeville, Alabama, Lee was a rambunctious tomboy who loved to explore and get into trouble, just as she loved to read and write. She later attended college to become a lawyer but then made a sudden decision to move to New York City and become a writer. After eleven years of devoted struggles with her writing, Lee published her first book. It would become one of the most beloved novels of all time. After the mid-1960s, Lee stopped giving interviews and receded from the public spotlight. She is considered a "recluse," but in actuality, Lee continues to live an active and fulfilling life into old age, charming friends and admirers with her warmth, wit, and integrity.integrity

Book Soaring Above the Ashes on the Wings of Forgiveness

Download or read book Soaring Above the Ashes on the Wings of Forgiveness written by Kitty Chappell and published by Perfect Bound Marketing + Press. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I finally realized that no matter how much I wanted to, I could not protect my family. Though I daydreamed of ways for us to escape, I knew it was impossible. Dad had warned us too many times to not go mouthing off to anyone about things that are none of their business, or I'll put you all out of your misery. The oldest of three, Kitty Chappell did her best to shield her brother and sister from their fathers abuse, but little could stand in the way of his beatings and vicious remarks. None of them escaped his brutality. As a well-respected family man in their Texas community in the 1950s, her father enjoyed a sure confidence in his control over his family. His assurance proved correct when he attacked her mother and turned friends against her, aiming shocking accusations at his wife and daughter. Everyone thought her father was wonderful including the jury that gave him the minimum sentence for trying to kill Kitty's mother as she lay sleeping. Only three-and-a-half years for premeditated attempted murder! It just wasn't fair. Kitty loved God but disagreed with Him on the subject of forgiveness. Many people were in her corner, for who hasn't debated this issue with God? She didn't want to forgive, she wanted revenge! But as Kitty developed her relationship with Christ, she realized she needed to forgive the man who had caused her so much pain. Soaring Above the Ashes on the Wings of Forgiveness will keep you riveted to your seat with its twists and turns. You will be enraged and terrified with the author through her difficult journey. Ultimately, you will rejoice with her as she walks through the door of forgiveness and breathes in the fresh air of freedom. Soaring Above the Ashes on Wings of Forgiveness reveals Kittys remarkable story of courage and faith and how she developed the attitude that enabled her to overcome rather than merely survive. This touching story will inspire you to overcome your difficulties and experience your own freedom and joy as you learn to forgive when everything in you screams for revenge.

The action sequences make me feel I'm back in the cockpit of my P-51C 'Kitten'! If you want to know what it was like fighting German interceptors in European skies while winning equal opportunity at home, be sure to read this book!" —Colonel Charles E. McGee, USAF (ret.) former president, Tuskegee Airmen Inc. “All Americans owe Harry Stewart Jr. and his fellow airmen a huge debt for defending our country during World War II. In addition, they have inspired generations of African American youth to follow their dreams.” —Henry Louis Gates Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor, Harvard University He had to sit in a segregated rail car on the journey to Army basic training in Mississippi in 1943. But two years later, the twenty-year-old African American from New York was at the controls of a P-51, prowling for Luftwaffe aircraft at five thousand feet over the Austrian countryside. By the end of World War II, he had done something that nobody could take away from him: He had become an American hero. This is the remarkable true story of Lt. Col. Harry Stewart Jr., one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen pilots who experienced air combat during World War II. Award-winning aviation writer Philip Handleman recreates the harrowing action and heart-pounding drama of Stewart’s combat missions, including the legendary mission in which Stewart downed three enemy fighters. Soaring to Glory also reveals the cruel injustices Stewart and his fellow Tuskegee Airmen faced during their wartime service and upon return home after the war. Stewart’s heroism was not celebrated as it should have been in postwar America—but now, his boundless courage and determination will never be forgotten.
