Book Snow Engineering Recent Advances

Download or read book Snow Engineering Recent Advances written by I. Izumi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the conference was to provide a forum for engineers, architects and scientists to discuss a broad range of research and design methods for various problems related to snow engineering. Specialists in building and civil engineering, environmental engineering, energy engineering, urban planning, and regional development as well as snow scientists were brought together for the conference. The technical sessions were in five thematic areas as follows: Snow technology and science; Building and construction engineering; Infrastructure and transportation; Housing and residential planning; Development strategy in snow countries. The 115 papers provide keys to realize more comfortable living conditions in snow countries and to overcome many problems in heavy snow regions.

Book Statics and Strength of Materials for Construction Engineering Technology and Architecture

Download or read book Statics and Strength of Materials for Construction Engineering Technology and Architecture written by Mohamed Askar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-04-26 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statics and Strength of Materials for Construction, Engineering Technology, and Architecture: Theory, Analysis, and Application provides students and industry professionals with the necessary statics and strength of materials background for more innovative approaches to particular fields of engineering technology, construction engineering and management, civil engineering, and architectural technology. It presents an introduction to statics, a review of algebra and trigonometry, concepts of vectors, a classification of building structural systems, an overview of advanced topics in statics and strength of materials, and frameworks of real-world application projects. This book contains 19 chapters and discusses several topics related to statics and strength of materials, such as coplanar force systems; the equilibrium of particle and rigid bodies; design loads; beam and frame reactions; trusses; arches, cables, and pulleys; space force systems; centroid of areas; moment of inertia; friction; properties of materials; axial deformation; bending and shear stress; torsional stress; combined loading; stress transformation; deflection; and stress in columns. Each chapter includes an Instructor’s Solution Manual and Guide with instructional materials and comprehensive explanations of the related practice problems, critical thinking exercises, and application projects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant Changes to Seismic Load Provisions of ASCE 7-10: An Illustrated Guide focuses on the revisions to the seismic load requirements set forth in the latest edition of the Standard for minimum design loads. Mirroring the organization of the seismic chapters in ASCE 7-10, this handy reference briefly summarizes each change to the seismic provisions that might affect actual practice or enforcement and immediately follows up with the precise wording of the change. The impact of each update is explained in clear, straightforward language accompanied by diagrams, examples, and color photographs and illustrations to enrich the reader s understanding. Significant Changes to the Seismic Load Provisions of ASCE 7-10: An Illustrated Guide translates the changes to the seismic provisions of ASCE Standard 7-10 into a form readily accessible by structural engineers, architects, contractors, building officials and inspectors, and allied professionals. S. K. Ghosh is president, Susan Dowty is vice president and Prabuddha Dasgupta is engineering manager of S. K. Ghosh Associates Inc., a seismic and building code consulting firm based in Palatine, IL and Aliso Viejo, CA. All three are active in development and interpretation of U.S. codes and standards.

Book Developing Ground Snow Loads for New Hampshire

Download or read book Developing Ground Snow Loads for New Hampshire written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of New Hampshire's hilly landscape, mapped values of ground snow load are not available for much of its area. We conducted snow load case studies to establish ground snow loads for a specific elevation in each of the 140 towns where no values are currently available. That work was done by three researchers and three structural engineers practicing in New Hampshire. While our methods of analysis varied somewhat, our results were comparable and the feedback we received from each other was quite valuable. We then established an elevation correction factor to transfer our snow load answers to other elevations in each town. We did not do case studies for the 102 towns in New Hampshire where mapped values are available. We are now planning to do that, as we believe that case studies improve snow load design criteria. We suggest that similar studies be conducted for other places in the United States.
