Book The Bruised Reed and Smoking Flax

Download or read book The Bruised Reed and Smoking Flax written by Richard Sibbes and published by Aneko Press. This book was released on 2024-06-01 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bruising is needed so that reeds may know they are reeds, not oaks. Reeds need to be bruised because of the pride in our nature, the removal of which lets us live by mercy and faith. It is a difficult thing to bring a dull heart to cry for mercy. Our hearts, like malefactors, until they are beaten from all sides, never naturally cry for mercy from the Judge. But this bruising makes us set a high price upon Christ. It makes us more thankful and more fruitful in our lives. Whatever claim sin has on a man, bruising or breaking is the end of it. This spark of hope, being opposed by doubts and fears arising from the corruption of sin, makes him as smoking flax. Thus, both these together, a bruised reed and smoking flax, make up the state of a poor, distressed man. Our Savior terms such a one as poor in spirit. Christ will not break the bruised reed or quench the smoking flax. Though physicians put their patients through much pain, they will not destroy their patients' bodies but will do their best to heal them. Surgeons will cut, but not dismember. A mother will not cast away a sick or disobedient child. Shall we think there is more mercy in ourselves than in God, who plants the affection of mercy in us? To further declare Christ’s mercy to all bruised reeds, consider the comforting relationship He has taken upon Himself of husband, shepherd, and brother, which He will discharge to the utmost. It cannot but cheer the heart of the church to consider, despite all the infirmities and miseries she is subject to, that she has a Bridegroom with a kind disposition. He knows how to give the honor of kindness to the weaker vessel and will be so far from rejecting her because she is weak that He will pity her all the more. He is kind at all times and will speak to her heart, especially when in the wilderness.

Book excerpt: The Smoking Flax' is a straightforward narrative that follows the journey of a young sociologist as he ventures into the Canadian prairies for his well-being, unexpectedly encountering both love and excitement along the way. While the story contains elements that could easily lead to melodrama, it remains grounded in an authentic depiction of farm life, portraying genuine characters who come to life throughout the tale. Additionally, scattered moments of vivid description add an enchanting touch to the overall narrative.

Book Sweet Comfort for Feeble Saints

Download or read book Sweet Comfort for Feeble Saints written by Charles Spurgeon and published by Krill Press via PublishDrive. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Charles Haddon Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) was a British Particular Baptist preacher who remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the "Prince of Preachers". Spurgeon was to 19th century England what D. L Moody was to America. Although Spurgeon never attended theological school, by the age of twenty-one he was the most popular preacher in London. A strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, defending the Church in agreement with the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith understanding, and opposing the liberal and pragmatic theological tendencies in the Church of his day, Spurgeon preached to around 10,000,000 people, often up to 10 times each week at different places. Spurgeon was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years, despite the fact he was part of several controversies with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and later had to leave the denomination. In 1857, he started a charity organization called Spurgeon's which now works globally, and he also founded Spurgeon's College, which was named after him posthumously. Spurgeon was a prolific author of many types of works, including sermons, an autobiography, commentaries, books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more.

Download or read book Life study of Matthew written by Witness Lee and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2023-09-26 with total page 815 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gospel of Matthew reveals that Christ is God incarnated to be the King-Savior who came to establish the kingdom of the heavens by saving His people from sin through His death and resurrection. Christ, as the son of David according to the flesh, came as the proper heir to the throne of David; as God incarnate, He came as the first God-man. God named Him Jesus, yet He was called Emmanuel (“God with us”) by men. As the new King, Christ was recommended by John, anointed by the Spirit, and tested by the devil. Having defeated the devil, He began His ministry to establish the kingdom of the heavens. Matthew presents the kingdom of the heavens in three aspects, the reality of the kingdom of the heavens (5:1—7:29), the outward appearance of the kingdom of the heavens (13:1-52), and the manifestation of the kingdom of the heavens (24:1—25:46). Author Witness Lee reveals that the reality of the kingdom is simply the King Himself, sown into humanity as the seed of the kingdom. This kingdom seed, containing the kingdom life and nature, will grow and develop in the believers, constituting them the reality of the kingdom, until it is brought to full maturity as the manifestation of the kingdom. In particular, it explains the crucial difference between the kingdom of the heavens and the kingdom of God, and presents a clear understanding of the Lord’s prophecies concerning Israel, the church, and the nations at the consummation of the age.

Book THE BRUISED REED

Download or read book THE BRUISED REED written by Richard Sibbes and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-11-13 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Richard Sibbes was known in London in the early 17th century as "the Heavenly Doctor Sibbes" The Bruised Reed and Smoking Flax; is a masterful exposition of Matthew 12:20. In this the author explains what the reed refers to, then he explains what is to be "a bruised reed." There is no better introduction to the Puritans than the writings of Richard Sibbes, who is, in many ways, a typical Puritan. Sibbes never wastes the student's time, ' he scatters pearls and diamonds with both hands. C. H. Spurgeon

Book Catena Aurea Commentary On Mathew s Gospel

Download or read book Catena Aurea Commentary On Mathew s Gospel written by Thomas Aquinas and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is volume one of a five volume effort, by one of History's greatest commentator's on the Gospels. This work is written for one who does have a fluid knowledge of philosophy, not alone Thomas Aquinas. What this accomplishes is to provide a modern version of the Catena Aurea-Golden Chain in today's verbiage and related issues, while in keeping with the flow and content of the original. Under these circumstances, we of the twenty first century can read about them both, talk about them enthusiastically, but pretty much leave them both alone. Aquinas is one who regardless of your placement on your spiritual journey. Aquinas is the basis for so much of what we have come to regard as dogma. This work is essential to not only understanding Aquinas's other works, but also our own journey.
