Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by Arthur Ogus on the basis of notes from Pierre Berthelot's seminar on crystalline cohomology at Princeton University in the spring of 1974, this book constitutes an informal introduction to a significant branch of algebraic geometry. Specifically, it provides the basic tools used in the study of crystalline cohomology of algebraic varieties in positive characteristic. Originally published in 1978. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.

Download or read book Weight Filtrations on Log Crystalline Cohomologies of Families of Open Smooth Varieties written by Yukiyoshi Nakkajima and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-15 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, the authors construct a theory of weights on the log crystalline cohomologies of families of open smooth varieties in characteristic p>0, by defining and constructing four filtered complexes. Fundamental properties of these filtered complexes are proved, in particular the p-adic purity, the functionality of three filtered complexes, the weight-filtered base change formula, the weight-filtered Künneth formula, the weight-filtered Poincaré duality, and the E2-degeneration of p-adic weight spectral sequences. In addition, the authors state some theorems on the weight filtration and the slope filtration on the rigid cohomology of a separated scheme of finite type over a perfect field of characteristic p>0.

Download or read book Birational Geometry Rational Curves and Arithmetic written by Fedor Bogomolov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-05-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book features recent developments in a rapidly growing area at the interface of higher-dimensional birational geometry and arithmetic geometry. It focuses on the geometry of spaces of rational curves, with an emphasis on applications to arithmetic questions. Classically, arithmetic is the study of rational or integral solutions of diophantine equations and geometry is the study of lines and conics. From the modern standpoint, arithmetic is the study of rational and integral points on algebraic varieties over nonclosed fields. A major insight of the 20th century was that arithmetic properties of an algebraic variety are tightly linked to the geometry of rational curves on the variety and how they vary in families. This collection of solicited survey and research papers is intended to serve as an introduction for graduate students and researchers interested in entering the field, and as a source of reference for experts working on related problems. Topics that will be addressed include: birational properties such as rationality, unirationality, and rational connectedness, existence of rational curves in prescribed homology classes, cones of rational curves on rationally connected and Calabi-Yau varieties, as well as related questions within the framework of the Minimal Model Program.

Download or read book K3 Surfaces and Their Moduli written by Carel Faber and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the latest developments concerning the moduli of K3 surfaces. It is aimed at algebraic geometers, but is also of interest to number theorists and theoretical physicists, and continues the tradition of related volumes like “The Moduli Space of Curves” and “Moduli of Abelian Varieties,” which originated from conferences on the islands Texel and Schiermonnikoog and which have become classics. K3 surfaces and their moduli form a central topic in algebraic geometry and arithmetic geometry, and have recently attracted a lot of attention from both mathematicians and theoretical physicists. Advances in this field often result from mixing sophisticated techniques from algebraic geometry, lattice theory, number theory, and dynamical systems. The topic has received significant impetus due to recent breakthroughs on the Tate conjecture, the study of stability conditions and derived categories, and links with mirror symmetry and string theory. At the same time, the theory of irreducible holomorphic symplectic varieties, the higher dimensional analogues of K3 surfaces, has become a mainstream topic in algebraic geometry. Contributors: S. Download or read book Crystalline Cohomology of Algebraic Stacks and Hyodo Kato Cohomology written by Martin C. Olsson and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text the author uses stack-theoretic techniques to study the crystalline structure on the de Rham cohomology of a proper smooth scheme over a $p$-adic field and applications to $p$-adic Hodge theory. He develops a general theory of crystalline cohomology and de Rham-Witt complexes for algebraic stacks and applies it to the construction and study of the $(\varphi, N, G)$-structure on de Rham cohomology. Using the stack-theoretic point of view instead of log geometry, he develops the ingredients needed to prove the $C_{\text {st}}$-conjecture using the method of Fontaine, Messing, Hyodo, Kato, and Tsuji, except for the key computation of $p$-adic vanishing cycles. He also generalizes the construction of the monodromy operator to schemes with more general types of reduction than semistable and proves new results about tameness of the action of Galois on cohomology.
Download or read book Arithmetic Algebraic Geometry written by G., van der Geer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arithmetic algebraic geometry is in a fascinating stage of growth, providing a rich variety of applications of new tools to both old and new problems. Representative of these recent developments is the notion of Arakelov geometry, a way of "completing" a variety over the ring of integers of a number field by adding fibres over the Archimedean places. Another is the appearance of the relations between arithmetic geometry and Nevanlinna theory, or more precisely between diophantine approximation theory and the value distribution theory of holomorphic maps. Research mathematicians and graduate students in algebraic geometry and number theory will find a valuable and lively view of the field in this state-of-the-art selection.

Download or read book Finite Fields and Applications written by Dieter Jungnickel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-03-20 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the refereed proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Finite Fields and Applications (F q5) held at the University of Augsburg (Germany) from August 2-6, 1999, and hosted by the Department of Mathematics. The conference continued a series of biennial international conferences on finite fields, following earlier conferences at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (USA) in August 1991 and August 1993, the University ofGlasgow (Scotland) in July 1995, and the University ofWaterloo (Canada) in August 1997. The Organizing Committee of F q5 comprised Thomas Beth (University ofKarlsruhe), Stephen D. Cohen (University of Glasgow), Dieter Jungnickel (University of Augsburg, Chairman), Alfred Menezes (University of Waterloo), Gary L. Mullen (Pennsylvania State University), Ronald C. Mullin (University of Waterloo), Harald Niederreiter (Austrian Academy of Sciences), and Alexander Pott (University of Magdeburg). The program ofthe conference consisted offour full days and one halfday ofsessions, with 11 invited plenary talks andover80contributedtalks that re- quired three parallel sessions. This documents the steadily increasing interest in finite fields and their applications. Finite fields have an inherently fasci- nating structure and they are important tools in discrete mathematics. Their applications range from combinatorial design theory, finite geometries, and algebraic geometry to coding theory, cryptology, and scientific computing. A particularly fruitful aspect is the interplay between theory and applications which has led to many new perspectives in research on finite fields.
