Book excerpt: After my fathers passing I was given a box containing just about all the letters my mother wrote to him. I always thought how nice it would be to be able to read them and possibly have them compiled and saved for our family. It was some years later after I became retired that I was in the mood to really sit down and begin the arduous job of trying to read the small handwriting that had been written decades earlier. There was no order to the box her letters. Some were in the original envelopes, some were crammed four or five together in one envelope or just bound loosely. Gloria did not date all of her letters and a time element had to be studied before transcribing them on the computer could begin. Having mom within driving distance or phone call away I was fortunate to be able to see if she could recall any details that I missed, names and places, or words that I could not read legibly. Even with early memory problems in her glory years Gloria was able to come through for me most of the times to get the context in order. After completing and rereading her letters it occurred to me that this type of communication will not be seen again by future generations who live in the 'cyber-world'. The art of penning and expressing oneself on paper is a dying art so-to-speak. Her letters are now a treasure of history; with all the small details and twists of growing up a teen and tidbits of life during late 1943 to mid 1945.

From one arena, to the other, aboard cruise liner's of mammoth proportions, the Chef de Cuisine is held in high regard, as well he should, and John continues on his helter skeltor journey to the eventual pinnacle, but not without stark reminders of daily life's realities, unfazed by many, who would prefer the home comfort's he left behind. To luxury, spacious yachts with no limits on time, demand, and satisfaction, for the very rich and some famous, we get a very rare insight into the daily goings on, both on shore in sumptuous homes around the globe. Sailing to parts unknown on a whim. Immaculate turn out, undeniable hilarity, to keep one guessing from the beginning to the end. One might very well feel out of breath, when you have read it. Book Reviews I found this book to be quite delightful. In all of Mr. Werrill's travels and experiences, given his writing style, I felt I was right there with him. In his colorful and careful descriptions of his life, one was left with a feeling of what's next for this very adventurous gentleman. He left me with a sense of my own personal longing to write of my adventures. Who knows, perhaps you'll have another interesting book to publish one day. Book excerpt: The arson attacks in early 2006 on a number of small Baptist churches in rural Alabama recalled the rash of burnings at dozens of predominantly black houses of worship in the South during the mid-1990s. One of the churches struck by probable arson in 1996 was Little Zion Baptist Church in Boligee, Alabama. This book draws on the voices and memories of church members to share a previously undocumented history of Little Zion, from its beginnings as a brush arbor around the time of emancipation, to its key role in the civil rights movement, to its burning and rebuilding with the help of volunteers from around the world. Folklorist Shelly O'Foran, a Quaker who went to Boligee as a volunteer in the church rebuilding effort, describes Little Zion as always having been much more than the building itself.
