Download or read book Skrimsli written by Nicola Davies and published by Firefly Press. This book was released on 2023-09-14 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who you are if you've never seen another face like yours? Where do you belong if you don't know where your home is? What do you call yourself when others call you 'freak'? How can you be brave when you are full of fear? Why would you choose purpose over love? Skrimsli is the second fantasy adventure from author Nicola Davies set in a world where animals and humans can sometimes share their thoughts. It traces the early life of Skrimsli, the tiger sea captain who stole readers' hearts in The Song that Sings Us. He and his friends, Owl and Kal, must escape the clutches of the tyrannical circus owner Kobret Majak, and his twin assassin-acrobats, then stop a war and save the ancient forest, where the Tiger, and the Owl are sacred guardians. Skrimsli and his friends are helped by the Palatine, desert princess and her eagle, a chihuahua who thinks she's a wolf, a horse with heart of gold and the crew of a very unusual ship. This is a story full of excitement and danger, that explores themes of friendship, loyalty, identity and love, in the context of some of humanity's toughest problems.

Download or read book Northern Atlantic Islands and the Sea written by Andrew Jennings and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-11 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Orkney, Shetland and, to some extent, the Hebrides, share both a Nordic cultural and linguistic heritage, and the experience of being surrounded by the ever-present North Atlantic Ocean. This has been a constant in the islanders’ history, forging their unique way of life, influencing their customs and traditions, and has been instrumental in moulding their identities. This volume is an exploration of a rich, intimate and, at times, terrifying relationship. It is the result of an international conference held in April 2014, when scholars from across the North Atlantic rim congregated in Lerwick, Shetland, to discuss maritime traditions, islands in Old Norse literature, insular archaeology, folklore, and traditional belief. The chapters reflect the varied origins of the contributors. Icelanders are well represented, as are scholars based in Orkney and Shetland, indicating the strength of scholarship in these seemingly isolated archipelagos. Peripheral they may be to the UK, but they lie at the heart of the North Atlantic, at the intersection of British and Nordic cultures. This book will be of interest to scholars of a wide range of disciplines, such as those involved in island studies, cultural studies, Old Norse literature, Icelandic studies, maritime heritage, oceanography, linguistics, folklore, British studies, ethnology, and archaeology. Similarly, it will also appeal to researchers from a wide geographical area, particularly the UK, and Scandinavia, and indeed anywhere where there is an interest in the study of islands or the North Atlantic.

This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: YOUR CALL TO CTHULHU IS IMPORTANT TO US. PLEASE HOLD. Of all bureaucracies, corporations are the most powerful, seeming to have a life and will of their own. Privately held with multi-national reach, seemingly bottomless resources, and armies of lawyers jealously guarding trade secrets, corporations fiercely resist any attempt to change or regulate them. Anything and everything is justified by the bottom line. Who needs a Cthulhu Cult when you've got Cthulhu, Inc.? Into this insidious world are thrust our heroes - the curious, the puzzled, and the frustrated. Defying authority, seeking answers they'd be better off not knowing, the secrets they discover threaten their sanity and their lives. Will they become the next whistleblower media hero? Or the next no-call-no-show their coworkers promptly forget? Remember: it's nothing personal - just business. Including twenty-five tales from writers including DJ Tyrer, Peter Rawlik, David Tallerman, Gordon Linzner, Adrian Ludens, and many more!
