This book was released on 2000 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis report will be of interest to pavement design, construction, management, and research engineers, highway safety officials, and others concerned with pavement friction characteristics. It describes the current state of the practice and discusses the methods used for evaluating wet pavement friction characteristics of new and restored pavements. This synthesis reviews models used for measuring and evaluating friction and texture, causes for friction changes over time, and aggregate and mix design to provide adequate friction. Also presented are construction and surface restoration practices for providing good pavement surface characteristics. In addition, considerations of noise and ride quality are discussed when compromise may be required.

The contents of this report will be of interest to highway materials, construction, pavement management, safety, design, and research engineers, as well as others concerned with the friction and related surface characteristics of highway pavements.

Book Tire Friction Coefficients and Their Relation to Ground run Distance in Landing

Download or read book Tire Friction Coefficients and Their Relation to Ground run Distance in Landing written by F. B. Gustafson and published by . This book was released on 1942 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A summary of published information on braking friction coefficients is presented. An analysis is included which indicates that the magnitude of the friction coefficient available will affect the technique required for obtaining the shortest ground run only under extreme conditions. In this connection, technique refers to the choice between utilizing air drag and ground friction through choice of attitude. The analysis further shows that the landing attitude is almost never the attitude for the shortest ground run. A chart is presented for rapid estimation of ground-run. A chart is presented for rapid estimation of ground-run distance for any set of values of friction coefficient, airplane attitude, initial drag weight ratio, and initial velocity. Sample studies are presented for high- and low-wing loadings.

Book Mechanical Properties of Pneumatic Tires with Special Reference to Modern Aircraft Tires

Download or read book Mechanical Properties of Pneumatic Tires with Special Reference to Modern Aircraft Tires written by Robert F. Smiley and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is presented of most of the properties of pneumatic tires which are of interest to aircraft designers. The principal topics discussed are tire vertical-force-deflection characteristics; lateral, fore-and-aft, and torsional spring constants; footprint-area properties; relaxation lengths; rolling radius; cornering force, cornering power, self-alining torque, and pneumatic caster for yawed rolling conditions; effects of wheel tilt; and tire radial growth under the influence of centrifugal forces. For each tire property considered, semiempirical equations are set up which take into account the major factors pertinent to the property. Whereever possible each equation is compared with the available experimental data to establish its degree of reliability.

Book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods

Download or read book Vehicle Accident Analysis and Reconstruction Methods written by Matthew Brach and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2022-01-07 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this third edition of Vehicle Accident Analysis & Reconstruction Methods, Raymond M. Brach and R. Matthew Brach have expanded and updated their essential work for professionals in the field of accident reconstruction. Most accidents can be reconstructed effectively using of calculations and investigative and experimental data: the authors present the latest scientific, engineering, and mathematical reconstruction methods, providing a firm scientific foundation for practitioners. Accidents that cannot be reconstructed using the methods in this book are rare. In recent decades, the field of crash reconstruction has been transformed through the use of technology. The advent of event data records (EDRs) on vehicles signaled the era of modern crash reconstruction, which utilizes the same physical evidence that was previously available as well as electronic data that are measured/captured before, during, and after the collision. There is increased demand for more professional and accurate reconstruction as more crash data is available from vehicle sensors. The third edition of this essential work includes a new chapter on the use of EDRs as well as examples using EDR data in accident reconstruction. Early chapters feature foundational material that is necessary for the understanding of vehicle collisions and vehicle motion; later chapters present applications of the methods and include example reconstructions. As a result, Vehicle Accident Analysis & Reconstruction Methods remains the definitive resource in accident reconstruction.
