The experiences of the author come to life on the page, mirrored by images of stunning snow-covered peaks and landscapes. Using vast untracked snowfields as a blank canvas, the author draws line after line with his skis, etching his signature temporarily into the earth's surface, only for the next snowstorm to come in and cover any trace of human existence. The book explores some of the different aspects of skiing, mostly in deep fresh powder, and illustrates the adventures and elation that the mountains in winter can offer.

Book Miles On the Mountain Skiing At Sixty four and Other Adventures

Download or read book Miles On the Mountain Skiing At Sixty four and Other Adventures written by Charlie Avera and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-02-27 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Miles on the Mountain tells the story of the author's four-year journey learning to ski in Colorado's beautiful Rocky Mountains. This book is a simple and honest narrative that describes the ups and downs, and successes and failures of an older guy learning to ski later in life. In 1992 Charlie moved his family from Michigan to Colorado, and has never regretted that decision. But raising six children did not leave much time or money to take up an expensive sport like skiing. However, things changed in December 2013 when his daughter asked him if he wanted to try it just once. From that first day on the bunny hill at the age of 60, to skiing blue and black diamond runs in some of Colorado's most popular ski resorts, this book is more than just a chronicle of events. Miles on the Mountain engages you in many friendly, conversational, and sometimes humorous stories as Charlie learned to ski as a senior citizen, as well as the back story of why he waited so long to start his skiing career.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skiing the Andes As Jessica started to ski down the hill, the ski instructor started up with his six students. Jessica picked up more and more speed and ran smack squat into the instructor, sending them both tumbling through the snow. ?I?m sorry, ? I said to the instructor, ?but she comes from a long line of knocker-downers. Both her mother and her grandmother knocked down the ski instructor at Boyne Mountain, Michigan.? For this year's adventure I took my 12-year-old twin granddaughters to Baraloche, the ski capital of Argentina. We stayed in a remote mountain cabin 5,000 feet up in the snow-covered Andes Mountains, sleeping in the unheated loft where the nighttime temperatures dropped to freezing. The snow base measured 12 inches upon arrival and it snowed a few inches more each day. For 10 days the three of us cross-country skied the powdery Andes trails, snowshoed the snowy heights and downhill skied at Mount Cathedral. While skiing or hiking through the Andes we encountered red fox, carancho eagles, condors, giant redheaded Magellanic woodpecker and bushy red squirrels. What did we like best about the adventure? ?I liked the cross-country skiing and talking to the Spanish-speaking staff, ? Emily said. ?I thought the downhill skiing was awesome!? Jessica said ?I have a million wonderful memories of spending two weeks with the granddaughters, ? I said.
