Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sixty-Fifth Annual Report of the Board of Domestic Missions, of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, in the United States of America: Presented May, 1867 To express its magnitude, would be to point to waste places which the Church has hitherto neglected, and the vast fields which open before us on the onward march of our country. The increase of the population West still continues, and the frontier line was never longer, and never pressing Westward more rapidly than now. A population, hardy and earnest, pours not only into a single State, but into six or eight great States and Territories, of whose existence the maps gave us no information only a few years ago. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Sixty-Eighth Annual Report of the Board of Domestic Missions of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America: Presented May, 1870 The Board of Domestic Missions respectfully present to the General Assembly, this their Sixty-eighth Annual Report. We discharge this duty with mingled feelings of sadness and joy - with sadne'ss, as this is the last Report of the Board as a separate agency of the O. S. Branch of the Church; and With joy, in view of its consolidation with the Home Missionary Committee of the N. S. Branch of the Church - the fruit of our blessed Re-union. During the first nine months of the year, the receipts of the Board were greatly diminished as compared with the corres ponding period of the year preceding; but during the last three months of the year, they were much larger than was antici pated, so that we were enabled to close the year with a large balance in the treasury. What is better still, the year was characterized by numerous precious revivals of religion - the number of our missionaries was greatly increased - their labors were signally blessed; our missionary churches generally revived and strengthened, and the work as a whole, unusually prospered. In reviewing the year, therefore, we feel that there is special cause for thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God.
