Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book delineates the attempt, carried out by the Congregations of the Inquisition and the Index during the sixteenth and early seventeenth century, to purge various devotional texts in the Italian vernacular of heterodox beliefs and superstitious elements, while imposing a rigid uniformity in liturgical and devotional practices. The first part of the book is focused on Rome's anxious activity toward the infiltration of Protestant ideas in vernacular treatises on prayer meant for mass consumption. It next explores how, only in the second half of the sixteenth century, once Rome's main preoccupation toward Protestant expansion had subsided, the Church could begin thinking about a move from a rejection of any consideration of the merits of interior prayer to a recovery and acceptance of mental prayer. The final section is dedicated to the primary objective of the Church's actions in purging superstitious practices which was not simply the renewal of the spiritual life of the faithful, but also the control of the religious and social life of many faithful who were uneducated. Based on a careful examination of the archival records of the two Roman dicasteri in question, many of which have only been accessible to scholars since 1998, as well as a close reading of the many of suspect devotional texts themselves, this book offers a fascinating contribution towards a fuller appreciation of the complex landscape that characterized the spiritual realities of early modern Italy.

Book excerpt: A story of adventure, friendship, love, betrayal and war. "The WAR OF ANGELS" takes us into a magical existence where heaven, hell and earth become one canvas for this epic story. Archangels, led by Michael and Sataniel (Satan) collide once more with the fury of the heavens, with man and earth trapped between they and their armies, their futures hanging on the outcome of the battle. Three SETI scientists capture a satellite photo of the arrival of a mysterious being that has the power to alter mans future and change the course of the world. On a remote Italian mountainside, the ancient secret order of monks known as the Montiarans encounter a visitor (The Archangel Michael) whose presence could mean peace for the world or the end of days. Michael, while searching for his enemies, unknowingly risks all when he falls in love with a human woman, Charlie. Lowering his defenses and assuming temporary human form to be with her, he is mortally wounded, trapping him in his human state.. Leading his army now will surely mean his death. But the warrior summons his remaining strength and courage and charges onto the battlefield. Earth. Millions upon millions of Angels clash, destroying everything in their paths. The world explodes into mayhem as the stage is set for the largest battle the earth has ever seen and whose outcome will herald a new era for man. Will the days to come be the foretold thousand years of peace? Or is it the dawn of the rule of the beast? When the end is near, the world will take sides. Which side will you choose? And then night came upon the earth and the sun never again touched the face of man. www.DarrenDowler.com www.RockandRolltheMovie.com www.myspace.com/DarrenDowlerMusic www.myspace.com/TheWarOfAngels

Book excerpt: Oahspe: A New Bible is a book published in 1882, purporting to contain "new revelations" from "...the Embassadors of the angel hosts of heaven prepared and revealed unto man in the name of Jehovih..." It was produced by an American dentist, John Ballou Newbrough (1828–1891), who reported it to have been written by automatic writing. Oahspe comprises a series of related interior books chronicling earth and its heavenly administrations, as well as setting forth teachings for modern times. Over 100 drawings are included. According to Oahspe, the Creator is both masculine and feminine. Om is one of the names used to refer to the feminine (mother) aspect. Other references include, "The All Person", "The unseen" and "The Everpresent", "The All Light", "The Highest Light". God and Lord are titles of office for a person in the spirit realm who began life as mortal/in corporeal form (spirit within a body). The Creator is all and was all and forever will be all; S/he was never born and is beyond all gods. The Creator is our father and mother, and all that are and were born are our brothers and sisters.

Book The Angel of Christmas

  • Author : C.G. Thompson
  • Publisher : Covenant Books, Inc.
  • Release : 2022-08-11
  • ISBN : 1685268722

Download or read book The Angel of Christmas written by C.G. Thompson and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-08-11 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stories you are about to read are fiction with some fictional characters. However, not all of the characters are fictional. You will find real history and actual places woven into these tales. The main characters in all of these stories are angels. Angels are mentioned at least 273 times in the Scriptures. The number of angels is incalculable. They are created spirit beings which are invisible unless they wish to be seen, and normally, that is in human form. They, like us, have free will. There are several different types of angels with different assignments to carry out. They all report to God, their Father. Today, it seems many Christian people only desire to believe in a God of love and not a God of vengeance and punishment. Yes, God is love, but He is other things as well. People seem to mistake God’s long-suffering for a change from His Old Testament persona to one that makes Him seem like a hippy of the 1960s. The Bible says that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I can’t visualize Him sitting on His throne making peace signs. He wasn’t a flower child in the Old Testament, so neither is He today. This book shows both a God of love and a God of justice. In this collection of stories as well as in the Bible, angels are sent to carry out His justice upon evildoers. In both this book and the Bible, angels are also sent to show His love for His children.

Book excerpt: "His eyes are talking to me" - with these words, Zen entered the lives of his two humans in Singapore in 2016. A few months later, the author, his wife, and Zen, their one-year-old Labrador Retriever, relocated to Stanford University. In the summer of 2017, the trio set off on a two-month, 10,000 miles road trip across America covering 29 states. Angel Wings - Paw-prints on Three Continents is a humorous narration of Zen's adventures and misadventures. Told from his unique perspective and inimitable style - ardent, conversational, and touching. He encounters a security robot in Mountain View with hilarious consequences, bonds with a burly Harley biker in Custer City, and meets a grizzly bear in Glacier National Park. The meaningful connection he enjoys with his humans' surfaces time and again. It is a story of making new friends and learning new skills while on a journey to understand America's culture and history. An easy, engaging read about how a dog-loving nation embraced a goofy pup and his human companions. A moving travelogue of the heart, a lovely elegy, and an emphatic testament to how a beloved friend makes every journey richer, every road shorter, and all goodbyes bittersweet. Zen takes his rightful place alongside Gareth Stein’s Enzo, John Grogan’s Marley, and John Steinbeck’s Charley, as a rich canine adventurer full of empathy and understanding, who will show you places you thought you already knew well, and will make you wish you had gone there with him.” — John W Evans, author of Young Widower: A Memoir and The Consolations
