Download or read book The Five Wounds of Jesus written by David Williams and published by Gracewing Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Devotion to the Five Wounds of Jesus has long been one of the most popular forms of Catholic spirituality. David Williams traces the roots of this devotion in Holy Scripture: the words of the prophets foretell the suffering Christ, while the New Testament witnesses to the victorious scars borne by the risen Lord. The Sacred Wounds of Jesus remained a persistent theme in the writings of the Desert Fathers and Doctors of the Church, a theme that was to be more fully developed in the devotional practice of the mediaeval period and on into modern times. Detailing the several forms devotion to the Five Wounds has taken (both mediaeval and modern) - in art, liturgy and poetry - David Williams recalls those holy people favoured by visons of the suffering Lord, as well as those who themselves came to bear the stigmata of Christ. He outlines the history of devotion to the specific wound in the Side - later seen as the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and describes the 'gift of tears' given to some from their reflection upon the Passion of their Master. David Williams is the author of The Cistercians on the Early Middle Ages and The Welsh Cistercians, both published by Gracewing.

This book was released on 2021 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the nineteenth century a new type of mystic emerged in Catholic Europe. While cases of stigmatisation had been reported since the thirteenth century, this era witnessed the development of the 'stigmatic': young women who attracted widespread interest thanks to the appearance of physical stigmata. To understand the popularity of these stigmatics we need to regard them as the 'saints' and religious 'celebrities' of their time. With their 'miraculous' bodies, they fit contemporary popular ideas (if not necessarily those of the Church) of what sanctity was. As knowledge about them spread via modern media and their fame became marketable, they developed into religious 'celebrities'"--
Download or read book Purgatory Divine Mercy written by Marino Restrepo and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2014-05-29 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written to enrich the knowledge of Catholics about the wonderful gift of the mercy of God for souls. Who, on dying and appearing before the Divine Tribunal of our Lord Jesus Christ, without a perfect and holy preparation, are rescued from the punishment of eternal damnation and taken to live in a state of purification or purgation. Where, after passing through a trial by fire, they have the opportunity to enter into the fullness of the eternal glory of Paradise. The first part of the book is a compilation of excerpts from the Councils, in which the existence of Purgatory is established as a dogmatic reality for the Catholic believer. The second part is a collection of testimonies of mystics and saints of the Church, who have left a valuable legacy of information on their experiences with souls in Purgatory and of their innumerable sufferings. They are useful to us as profound reflections on the responsibilities we all have in our preparation for the days we face after our death. The third part is a testimony of the author's mystical experience, which enables one to share the depth of his vision of the sufferings souls endure in Purgatory. The essential message of this book is to present the infinite Mercy of God, which continues even after our death.
Download or read book Our Way to Heaven written by Shirley Cairme-Garcia and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prayers are very important. We pray to God, to Jesus, to the Holy Spirit, and our Immaculate Virgin Mother and saints to ask for help in our daily lives, forgiveness for our sins, as well as safety, health, and blessings for our loved ones. We also ask for prayers to reach those less fortunate and those who do not know God. Our loving God created us in His image and gave us the Ten Commandments as a code to live by so that after death, we could be worthy enough to join Him in heaven. Since mankind is weak and prone to sin, God showed his great love for us by sending His beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, a pure Lamb as a redemption for our sins. It is only through Jesus and following His ways that we can enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus proved Himself to be God by His many miracles on earth. But, remember that the Immaculate Virgin Mary, through God, received the Holy Spirit and was chosen to give birth and raise our Savior, Jesus Christ. One can enter Heaven only through Him. So believe in Him as God who made His Mother Mary second to Him in power on earth and she helps Him save more souls to be in Heaven with them. He made her first before He became a human being in her womb. Hence she was created without original sin.We pray especially to Mother Mary, who is a true mother in that she considers all of us as her children. She has proven this by appearing in many different countries and performing many miracles, most notably the well-known healings in Fatima, Portugal, and in Lourdes, France. Through her, being our Mediatrix to Jesus, She can lessen the number of years one's soul stays in purgatory thus helping one go to Heaven earlier to be with Her.

Jesus states, "The hearts of men must be changed. This will only be realized through the devotion known, developed, preached and counseled everywhere... Recourse to my Mother under the title I wish for her universally, is the last help I shall give before the end of time... My Mother has acquired from her Heart the title of 'Sorrowful' by sharing generously in all the sufferings of My Heart and My Body from the crib to the cross...The title of 'Sorrowful' belongs therefore to the Heart of My Mother, and more than any other, this title is dear to Her because it springs from the union of her Heart with Mine in the redemption of humanity." Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament." —J.R.R. Tolkien Eucharistic adoration according to Fr. Frederick Faber is “the queen of all devotions.” Pope St. Pius X taught that it was the devotion “most profitable for our salvation.” And St. Gemma Galgani treasured it as “the school of Paradise where one learns how to love.” So many popes and saints exhort us to spend time with our Eucharistic Lord. And the Manual for Eucharistic Adoration will enrich your hours with Him. Part One, “Preparing for Eucharistic Adoration,” answers these questions: -What is Eucharistic adoration, and why is it so important? -What does Scripture teach about this devotion? -What are the fruit of Eucharistic adoration? -How should I spend my time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament? Part Two, “Aids in Eucharistic Adoration,” provides these essential resources: -Teaching about the Eucharist from Scripture and Church documents -Scripture verses for adoration, wisdom and inspiration from saints especially devoted to our Eucharistic Lord -Prayers, Rosary meditations, reflections and hymns Mother Teresa once said: “The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth.” Take this great saint’s words to heart. Then take the Manual for Eucharistic Adoration when you go to meet Him, and keep it with you Spiritual Communions and other moments of spontaneous adoration throughout the day.
