Book Singlet Oxygen UV A and Ozone

Download or read book Singlet Oxygen UV A and Ozone written by Lester Packer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2000-06-27 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in understanding the biological role of singlet oxygen in the pathways of cellular responses to ultraviolet-A radiation: its key position in photodynamical effects, and its generation by photochemical (dark) reactions, e.g. by cells of the immune system such as eosinophils and macrophages, are the focus of this volume. The new methods and techniques responsible for the rapid progress in this area are presented. The critically acclaimed laboratory standard for more than forty years, Methods in Enzymology is one of the most highly respected publications in the field of biochemistry. Since 1955, each volume has been eagerly awaited, frequently consulted, and praised by researchers and reviewers alike. Now with more than 300 volumes (all of them still in print), the series contains much material still relevant today--truly an essential publication for researchers in all fields of life sciences.

Book Oxidant Formation in the Generation of Ozone

Download or read book Oxidant Formation in the Generation of Ozone written by Bruce W. Gay (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ozone samples generated by UV photolysis and silent electric discharge upon air or oxygen were examined to determine if other oxidants were formed. Chemical and physical methods (IR and UV spectroscopy) failed to show the presence of such oxidants. Absence of such oxidants was also indicated by the excellent agreement between analytical results from UV photometry and gas phase titration. Ozone measurements by the colorimetric 1 percent neutral buffered potassium iodide method was biased 10-30 percent positive compared to UV photometry. A colorimetric method employing a solution of cyclohexene-dimethanol and ferrous ammonium sulfate (CHD), which is claimed to measure singlet oxygen and/or other oxidants along with ozone, proved to have a different stoichiometry in the presence and absence of oxygen. These latter results were interpreted to mean that the high response of CHD to ozonized air/oxygen streams does not indicate the presence of non-ozone oxidants; rather it reflects a greater-than-stoichiometric response of the CHD reagent to ozone.

Book The Ultraviolet Flash Photolysis of Ozone and the Reactions of O singlet D and O2 singlet Sigma sub G

Download or read book The Ultraviolet Flash Photolysis of Ozone and the Reactions of O singlet D and O2 singlet Sigma sub G written by David R. Snelling and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The decomposition of ozone has been studied following a short duration u.v. light pulse. From an analysis of the O3 decomposition curves for O3:N2, O3:N2:O2 and O3:O2 mixtures the relative rate constant for O(singlet D) deactivation by N2 and O2 is given. It is also shown that O2(singlet Sigma(sub g)(+)) is formed in at least 75% of the collisions in which O(singlet D) is deactivated by O2. The rate constants of the reactions O2(singlet Sigma(sub g)(+)) + O3 to 2O2 + O and O + O2 + O2 to O3 + O2 are found. (Modified author abstract).

Book Formation of Singlet Molecular Oxygen from the Ozone Photochemical System

Defence Research Board and published by Reprinted from Chemical Physics Letters, Volume 5, Number 2, 1 March 1970.. This book was released on 1970 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photolysis of ozone oxygen mixtures at 2537A has been found to produce O2(singlet Sigma(g)(+)) and O2(singlet Delta(g)). The O2(singlet Sigma(g)) was produced by energy transfer from O(singlet D) and the O2(singlet Delta(g)) by the primary photolysis step. (Author).

Book Mechanism of Singlet Molecular Oxygen Formation from Photolysis of Ozone at 2537 A

Download or read book Mechanism of Singlet Molecular Oxygen Formation from Photolysis of Ozone at 2537 A written by M. Gauthier and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emission from O2(singlet delta(g) and O2(singlet sigma(g) is observed from photolysis of ozone-oxygen mixtures at 2537A. The O2(singlet sigma(g) is formed by energy transfer from O(singlet D) and the relative rates of removal of O(1singlet D) by O2, and the reaction of O(triplet P) and O(singlet D) with O3 are discussed as sources of both O2 singlet states. (Author).

This book was released on 1971 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas phase reactions leading to the formation of singlet metastables in oxygen are being experimentally studied. A flowing afterglow system coupled with titration techniques, metallic surface recombination, and direct sampling and separation of the reactants and products according to their g-factors are used to further specify these reactions. Ground state species have been dominantly found in the H + O(3), NO + O(3) and O + O(3) reactions. (Author).

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2010-10-05
  • ISBN : 904819234X
  • Pages : 330 pages

Download or read book OZONE written by Velio Bocci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oxygen-Ozone therapy is a complementary approach less known than homeopathy and acupuncture because it has come of age only three decades ago. This book clarifies that, in the often nebulous field of natural medicine, the biological bases of ozone therapy are totally in line with classical biochemistry, physiological and pharmacological knowledge. Ozone is an oxidizing molecule, a sort of super active oxygen, which, by reacting with blood components generates a number of chemical messengers responsible for activating crucial biological functions such as oxygen delivery, immune activation, release of hormones and induction of antioxidant enzymes, which is an exceptional property for correcting the chronic oxidative stress present in atherosclerosis, diabetes and cancer. Moreover, by inducing nitric oxide synthase, ozone therapy may mobilize endogenous stem cells, which will promote regeneration of ischemic tissues. The description of these phenomena offers the first comprehensive picture for understanding how ozone works and why. When properly used as a real drug within therapeutic range, ozone therapy does not only does not procure adverse effects but yields a feeling of wellness. Half the book describes the value of ozone treatment in several diseases, particularly cutanious infection and vascular diseases where ozone really behaves as a “wonder drug”. The book has been written for clinical researchers, physicians and ozone therapists, but also for the layman or the patient interested in this therapy.
