Book excerpt: What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Book The Unconfessed Sin Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Suffering

Download or read book The Unconfessed Sin Arthur Dimmesdale s Guilt and Suffering written by John Kirsch and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 3,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, language: English, abstract: While one might argue that Hester Prynne is the one who, due to the public shaming by the community, suffers most in Nathanial Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter, I claim that on the basis of Reformed theology, which marks the foundation of Puritan doctrine, the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale proves to be the predominantly suffering protagonist in the novel. In order to validate my thesis, I will structure the term paper as follows: In the first section, I will briefly outline the spiritual background of seventeenth-century Puritanism in America and elaborate its main doctrines concerning the sin of adultery and the doctrines of repentance and confession. This will be done by means of the number one authority of the Puritans at that time, namely the King James Bible. In this context, I am going to consult the Institutes of the Christian Religion by the French Reformer John Calvin, which function as another basis of Puritan doctrine. In the second section, I will analyze Dimmesdale’s bad conscience and how as a result, his ministry as a preacher tortures him. The third section will deal with the influence Hester Prynne’s husband, Roger Chillingworth, has on Dimmesdale’s suffering, while the fourth section will be concisely devoted to Hester Prynne’s suffering. I will conclude this paper by summarizing the arguments throughout the different sections supporting my thesis statement.

Book The Necessity of Repentance

Download or read book The Necessity of Repentance written by Iona and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Necessity of Repentance: Renewed In Knowledge is all about the sin we commit as humans on this earth and how we deal with sin in our lives. God put The Ten Commandments in place for a reason: in order that the people He created would follow simple rules and instructions as they live on the earth. What do we do after the sin is committed? Apostle Johnson says that it is absolutely vital that we recognize our sins, ask for forgiveness, and most importantly repent of our actions. Then can we find forgiveness and peace that comes with acknowledging our wrongs before our Creator. Once we repentant, we can rest in our knowledge and learn from our sin. Repentance is necessary. Jesus Christ died for our sins. There is life after death. Are you still walking in un-forgiveness? Are you your brother s keeper?

Download or read book Repentance Key to Restoring Your Relationship with God written by Jean Tshibangu and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Repent, the Kingdom of God is near. Where there is law, there is sin and where there is sin, there is the salary that is death. Man, by his disobedience, broke his covenant with God. This created a barrier in his relationship with God. As the Lord God is compassionate God, He does not please in the death of the wicked, but He wants him to repent and have eternal life. He says it in his word: "God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes may not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). To restore this relationship torn because of the sin, God turns towards the man He had created in his own image and according to his likeness. He gave him the way to encounter Him, the way of repentance. It’s all the author recalls in this book the immensity of God's love in these times of the end that precede the return of Jesus Christ. He talks about it in detail so that everyone can review their lives and embark on the path of salvation.
