Book Simultaneous Localization and Tracking in Wireless Ad hoc Sensor Networks

Download or read book Simultaneous Localization and Tracking in Wireless Ad hoc Sensor Networks written by Christopher Jorgen Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis we present LaSLAT, a sensor network algorithm that uses range measurements between sensors and a moving target to simultaneously localize the sensors, calibrate sensing hardware, and recover the target's trajectory. LaSLAT is based on a Bayesian filter that updates a probability distribution over the parameters of interest as measurements arrive. The algorithm is distributable and requires a fixed amount of storage space with respect to the number of measurements it has incorporated. LaSLAT is easy to adapt to new types of hardware and new physical environments due to its use of intuitive probability distributions: one adaptation demonstrated in this thesis uses a mixture measurement model to detect and compensate for bad acoustic range measurements due to echoes. We present results from a centralized implementation of LaSLAT using a network of Cricket sensors. In both 2D and 3D networks, LaSLAT is able to localize sensors to within several centimeters of their ground truth positions while recovering a range measurement bias for each sensor and the complete trajectory of the mobile.

Book Simultaneous Localization Calibration and Tracking in an Ad Hoc Sensor Network

Download or read book Simultaneous Localization Calibration and Tracking in an Ad Hoc Sensor Network written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We introduce Simultaneous Localization and Tracking (SLAT), the problem of tracking a target in a sensor network while simultaneously localizing and calibrating the nodes of the network. Our proposed solution, LaSLAT, is a Bayesian filter providing on-line probabilistic estimates of sensor locations and target tracks. It does not require globally accessible beacon signals or accurate ranging between the nodes. When applied to a network of 27 sensor nodes, our algorithm can localize the nodes to within one or two centimeters.

Book RSS AoA based Target Localization and Tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks

Download or read book RSS AoA based Target Localization and Tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks written by Slavisa Tomic and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The desire for precise knowledge about the location of a moving object at any time instant has motivated a great deal of scientific research recently. This is owing to a steady expansion of the range of enabling devices and technologies, as well as the need for seamless solutions for location-based services. Besides localization accuracy, a common requirement for emerging solutions is that they are cost-abstemious, both in terms of the financial and computational cost. Hence, development of localization strategies from already deployed technologies, e.g., from different terrestrial radio frequency sources is of great practical interest. Amongst other, these include localization strategies based on received signal strength (RSS), time of arrival, angle of arrival (AoA) or a combination of them. RSS-AoA-based Target Localization and Tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks presents recent advances in developing algorithms for target localization and tracking, reflecting the state-of-the-art algorithms and research achievements in target localization and tracking based on hybrid (RSS-AoA) measurements.Technical topics discussed in the book include:Centralized RSS-AoA-based Target LocalizationDistributed RSS-AoA-based Target LocalizationRSS-AoA-based Target Tracking via Maximum A Posteriori EstimatorRSS-AoA-based Target Tracking via Kalman FilterRSS-AoA-based via Sensor NavigationThis book is of interest for personnel in telecommunications and surveillance industries, military, smart systems, as well as academic staff and postgraduate/research students in telecommunications, signal processing, and non-smooth and convex optimization.

Book Localization in Wireless Networks

Download or read book Localization in Wireless Networks written by Jessica Feng Sanford and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-05-03 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a computational tour-de-force, this volume wipes away a host of problems related to location discovery in wireless ad-hoc sensor networks. WASNs have recognized potential in many applications that are location-dependent, yet are heavily constrained by factors such as cost and energy consumption. Their “ad-hoc” nature, with direct rather than mediated connections between a network of wireless devices, adds another layer of difficulty. Basing this work entirely on data-driven, coordinated algorithms, the author’s aim is to present location discovery techniques that are highly accurate—and which fit user criteria. The research deploys nonparametric statistical methods and relies on the concept of joint probability to construct error (including location error) models and environmental field models. It also addresses system issues such as the broadcast and scheduling of the beacon. Reporting an impressive accuracy gain of almost 17 percent, and organized in a clear, sequential manner, this book represents a stride forward in wireless localization.

MELT 2009 continued the success of the ?rst workshop in the series (MELT 2008), which was held is San Francisco, California on September 19, 2008 in conjunction with Mobicom. Location-awareness is a key component for achieving context-awareness. - cent years have witnessed an increasing trend towards location-based services and applications. In most cases, however, location information is limited by the accessibility to GPS, which is unavailable for indoor or underground fac- ities and unreliable in urban environments. Much research has been done, in both the sensor network community and the ubiquitous computing community, to provide techniques for localization and tracking in GPS-less environments. Novel applications based on ad-hoc localization and real-time tracking of - bile entities are growing as a result of these technologies. MELT brings together leaders from both the academic and industrial research communities to discuss challenging and open problems, to evaluate pros and cons of various approaches, to bridge the gap between theory and applications, and to envision new research opportunities.

Book Cooperative Localization in Wireless Networked Systems

Download or read book Cooperative Localization in Wireless Networked Systems written by Mauricio Castillo-Effen and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: A novel solution for the localization of wireless networked systems is presented. The solution is based on cooperative estimation, inter-node ranging and strap-down inertial navigation. This approach overrides limitations that are commonly found in currently available localization/positioning solutions. Some solutions, such as GPS, make use of previously deployed infrastructure. In other methods, computations are performed in a central fusion center. In the robotics field, current localization techniques rely on a simultaneous localization and mapping, (SLAM), process, which is slow and requires sensors such as laser range finders or cameras. One of the main attributes of this research is the holistic view of the problem and a systems-engineering approach, which begins with analyzing requirements and establishing metrics for localization. The all encompassing approach provides for concurrent consideration and integration of several aspects of the localization problem, from sensor fusion algorithms for position estimation to the communication protocols required for enabling cooperative localization. As a result, a conceptual solution is presented, which is flexible, general and one that can be adapted to a variety of application scenarios. A major advantage of the solution resides in the utilization of wireless network interfaces for communications and for exteroceptive sensing. In addition, the localization solution can be seamlessly integrated into other localization schemes, which will provide faster convergence, higher accuracy and less latency. Two case-studies for developing the main aspects of cooperative localization were employed. Wireless sensor networks and multi-robot systems, composed of ground robots, provided an information base from which this research was launched. In the wireless sensor network field, novel nonlinear cooperative estimation algorithms are proposed for sequential position estimation. In the field of multi-robot systems the issues of mobility and proprioception, which uses inertial measurement systems for estimating motion, are contemplated. Motion information, in conjunction with range information and communications, can be used for accurate localization and tracking of mobile nodes. A novel partitioning of the sensor fusion problem is presented, which combines an extended Kalman filter for dead-reckoning and particle filters for aiding navigation.
