Book Simulation Options for Airport Planning

Download or read book Simulation Options for Airport Planning written by Florian B. Hafner and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Airports are dynamic environments in which multiple modes of transportation can connect to efficiently convey people and goods throughout the United States and around the world. Simulation tools can play an important role in assisting airport administrators, designers, and engineers with planning for any physical and operational changes to an airport. In some cases, the completion of simulation studies is a de facto requirement when planning airport development projects. One of the challenges that airports face in using simulation to support planning activities is selecting the tool that best serves the information needs of the project. Thus, the focus of this report is on available simulation capabilities and how airports employ these capabilities."--Foreword.

Book Addressing Uncertainty about Future Airport Activity Levels in Airport Decision Making

Download or read book Addressing Uncertainty about Future Airport Activity Levels in Airport Decision Making written by Ian S. Kincaid and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2012 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a guidebook on how to develop air traffic forecasts in the face of a broad range of uncertainties. It is targeted at airport operators, planners, designers, and other stakeholders involved in planning, managing, and financing of airports, and it provides a systems analysis methodology that augments standard master planning and strategic planning approaches. This methodology includes a set of tools for improving the understanding and application of risk and uncertainty in air traffic forecasts as well as for increasing overall effectiveness of airport planning and decision making. In developing the guidebook, the research team studied existing methods used in traditional master planning as well as methods that directly address risk and uncertainty, and based on that fundamental research, they created a straightforward and transparent systems analysis methodology for expanding and improving traditional planning practices, applicable through a wide range of airport sizes. The methods presented were tested through a series of case study applications that also helped to identify additional opportunities for future research and long-term enhancements.

Book Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models

Download or read book Airport Ground Access Mode Choice Models written by Geoffrey David Gosling and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2008 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis extends previous efforts to document the state of practice for airport ground access mode choice models. It examines the characteristics of existing models and discusses the issues involved in the development and use of such models to improve the understanding and acceptance of their role in airport planning and management. Information presented in this report may be of interest to a range of airport managers, airport and regional transportation planners, consultants and transportation modeling specialists, and researchers interested in issues involving airport ground access mode choice. For this synthesis, a comprehensive review of the relevant literature was undertaken. To document the extent of the recent use of airport ground access mode choice models and to identify sources of technical documentation on existing models, this literature review was supplemented by a survey of airport authorities, metropolitan planning organizations, consulting firms and research organizations, and other government agencies and industry organizations. Follow-up communications by telephone and e-mail were made where necessary.
